    CLEANSING BED BATH PROCEDURE

    Purposes:

     Provides personal Hygiene


     Promotes blood circulation
     Relaxation and comfort of the client.

    Equipment:
    Bath Towel Soap Clean Gown
    Wash cloth (2) Soap Dish Disposable gloves
    Bath Blanket Lotion
    Wash basin (2) Deodorant

    Behavior/Skill
    1. Wash hands
    2. Gathered all the equipment and brought to the bedside.
    3. Explained to the patient what you are going to do.
    4. Closes the windows and doors and made sure that the room is free from drafts.
    5. Lock the wheels of the bed and adjust height to a working level.
    6. Offered the patient bedpan or urinal and asked whether he/she wishes to use the toilet
    7. Assisted the client to move near the caregiver (if needed).
    8. Change top sheet w/ bath blanket .Removes client’s gown starting at the farthest side. Provide
    privacy.
    9. Filled the basin with warm water. Check the temperature with elbow/wrist.
    10. Immerse two washcloths in a basin of water.
    11. Places one towel over/across the client’s chest.
    12. Make a bath mitt with the washcloths.
    13. Washes the client’s farthest eyes with water only from inner to outer canthus to ears & neck.
    14. Uses a separate corner of the washcloth for each eye, ears & neck & neck & pat to dry.
    15. Asked whether the client wants soap on the face.
    16. Washes the face with S motion, rinsed the face (if with soap). Pat to dry.
    17. Places the bath towel lengthwise under the client’s arm (farthest side first).
    18. Washes & rinses the arms with long firm strokes motion.
    19. Washes from the wrist to axilla & pat dry.
    20. Repeated on the other arm.
    21. Positions the client on side lying & place towel across the lap.
    22. Places the basin with soap above the towel and wash the hand one at a time.
    23. Get the basin for rinsing & rinsed the hands & pat to dry.
    24. Spread the towel across the chest & pulled down the bath blanket to the waist.
    25. Washed the chest & abdomen with one hand while lifting the towel with other hand.
    26. Rinsed the chest and abdomen & pat to dry.
    27. Pulled up the blanket to cover the chest & removed the towel.
    28. Turned the client away from you with proper positioning.
    29. Spread the bath towel on the bed along the back.
    30. Washed & Rinsed from back to upper mid-thigh using circular motion & pat to dry.
    31. Applied powder or lotion & gentle massage.
    32. Removed the towel & let the client lie on his back.
    33. Exposed the leg on the farthest & placed the towel under the leg. Drape the leg.
    34. Flexed the leg & hold the knee.
    35. Washed & rinsed from the ankle to upper leg with long firm.
    36. Pat to dry & do it on the other leg with the same manner.
    37. Flexed both knees & placed bath towel underneath.
    38. Drape both legs with the blanket.
    39. Dip the farthest foot first on the basin with soap & wash them.
    40. Support the foot with your arm (near the ankle).
    41. Dip the nearest foot on the basin with soap & wash them.
    42. Rinse the farthest foot first on the basin then the nearest foot.
    43. Pat them dry.
    44. Put on a new gown for the client, starting from the farther side
    45. After care of equipment’s
    46. Remove gloves and wash hands.
