Earth is the third
planet from the Sun
and the only place
known in the universe
that is inhabited by
living things.
With a radius of
3,959 miles, Earth It's the only one
is the fifth largest known for sure to
planet in our have liquid water
solar system on its surface

Some cultures have described our world

using the Germanic word “earth,” which
means simply “the ground" and that's how it
named.
Distance from Sun Length of Year Planet Type
93 Million km 365 Earth Days Terrestrial
Characteristics of Earth
Has a lot of water for all living process
Has high oxygen content for all respiratory process
Has suitable temperature range
Has Atmosphere to block harmful ultraviolet rays
Receive sunlight for plants to conduct photosynthesis

Has gravity that keeps object from floating

ATMOSPHERE
Earth has a layer of air known as the atmosphere.
Atmosphere protect the surface of Earth from solar
wind, harmful ultraviolet rays and radiation from outer space.

Main Atmospheric Content:

21% 0.03%
Oxygen Carbon Dioxide

78% 0.97%
Inert Gases &
Nitrogen
Other Substances
Moon is the only natural satelite of Earth.

volcanoes)

EARTH'S PLACE IN SPACE
Earth spins around an
imaginary line running
through its center called an
axis.
It rotates once every 24
hours (1 DAY) Earth's roatation
Axis

Rotation
01 Longer day 02
More desert areas in
and night

03 04 Dropping of
Change in high temperature in the
and low tides parts that don't receive
sunlight
STRUCTURE OF THE
EARTH'S INTERIOR

The structure of earth is divided into four main

layers.
The four layers are Crust, Mantle, Inner Core and
Outer Core
Outermost layer of the earth it is also the surface of the
earth.
This comprises the continents and ocean basins and
therefore it has been classifed into Continental Crust and
Oceanic Crust.
Continemental Crust averages have 25miles (40km) thick
Oceanic Crust is usually only about 5 miles(8 km) thick
About 1800 miles thick
Earth's crust floats on the mantle much as a wood
floats on water and the slow motion of rock shuffles
continements around will causes earthquakes,
volcanoes and so on
Earth's core is about 4400 miles wide
Outer Core
- Hot and liquid layer comprising mainly of Nickel
and Iron
It classified to two core it is Inner Core and
Outer Core
