Infographics on Research Impact

Objective: To understand the significance of research by exploring its impact on

various fields and creating informative infographics.
Materials Needed:
Computers or devices with internet access
Graphic design software (such as Canva or Piktochart)
Research materials (books, articles, online sources)
Markers, colored pencils, or other art supplies (optional)

Goal Create an informative and visually engaging infographic that

highlights the impact of research in a specific field.
Role You are a researcher and graphic designer tasked with
creating an infographic to showcase the significant impact of
research in a chosen field.
Audience Your audience includes your classmates, teachers, and
potentially the school community. The infographic should be
designed to convey information clearly to individuals who
may not be experts in the field.
Situation In the modern world, research plays a crucial role in driving
advancements and improvements in various areas such as
medicine, technology, environment, and social sciences.
Your task is to research and select a specific field of interest
and then create an infographic that presents the key
research studies, discoveries, and projects that have had a
significant impact in that field.
Product/ Your final product will be an infographic that effectively
Performance communicates the impact of research in your chosen field.
The infographic should include:

1. An introduction that explains the importance of

research in the chosen field.
2. Clear sections that present specific examples of
impactful research studies, inventions, discoveries, or
projects.
3. Visual elements such as icons, images, graphs, and
charts to support the information.
4. A conclusion that summarizes the overall impact of
research in the chosen field.
Standards a. Research: Demonstrate the ability to gather accurate
and reliable information from various sources.
b. Communication: Effectively communicate complex
concepts through clear and concise text and visuals.
c. Visual Design: Use graphic design principles to create
an infographic that is visually appealing and easy to
understand.
d. Critical Thinking: Analyze the significance of research
findings and select the most relevant examples to
include in the infographic.

Procedures:
1. Introduction to Research Impact:

Begin the activity by discussing the importance of research and its role in driving
progress and innovation across different fields. Explain that students will be researching
real-life examples of how research has made significant impacts and presenting their
findings through visually appealing infographics.
2. Selecting Topics:

Allow students to choose a specific field of interest, such as medicine, technology,

environment, or social sciences. Encourage them to narrow down their focus by
selecting a particular area within the chosen field (e.g., medical advancements,
technological innovations, environmental conservation projects).
3. Research Phase:

Instruct students to conduct thorough research on their chosen topic. They should
gather information about key research studies, discoveries, inventions, or projects that
have had a significant impact. Encourage them to use a mix of primary and secondary
sources, such as scholarly articles, news reports, and reputable websites.
4. Gathering Data:

Students should collect data, statistics, quotes, and anecdotes that highlight the impact
of the research in their chosen field. Emphasize the importance of accurate and reliable
information.
5. Creating the Infographic:

Introduce students to graphic design tools like Canva or Piktochart, or provide

alternative design software if preferred. Guide them through the process of creating an
infographic. They should focus on a clear layout, concise text, and visually engaging
elements (icons, images, graphs) that convey the research impact effectively.
6. Structuring the Infographic:

Divide the infographic into sections, such as "Introduction," "Research Impact,"

"Examples," and "Conclusion." In each section, students can use text, visuals, and data
to present their findings.
7. Citing Sources:

Emphasize the importance of citing sources accurately. Have students include citations
within the infographic itself or create a separate reference section.
8. Design and Layout:
Encourage creativity in the design and layout while ensuring that the infographic
remains visually appealing and easy to understand. Remind students to use color
schemes, fonts, and graphics that enhance readability.
9. Review and Edit:

Allow time for students to review and edit their infographics. Encourage them to check
for spelling errors, ensure consistency in design elements, and refine the content for
clarity.
10. Presentation and Sharing:

Provide an opportunity for students to present their infographics to the class. Each
student can briefly explain their chosen topic, the research they conducted, and the
impact they highlighted. Alternatively, students can share their infographics digitally with
the class.
