A. Utility and Chemical Consumption study

1. Introduction

The Yadavaran oil field (previously referred to as Kushk and Hosseinieh Fields), is located

some 70 km to the southwest of Ahwaz and is near the Iran-Iraq border in southwest Iran. The

field is very remote from existing N.I.O.C. infrastructure and is spread out over a large

geographical area stretching some 45 km from north to south and 15 km from east to

west. The produced heavy and light crude oil and excess gas will be exported from Gas/Oil

Separation Unit (GOSU) and Central Treatment Export Plant (CTEP) to the Ahwaz Booster

Station (ABS) and a tie-in point near ABS about 100km away. Excess gas will be transformed

about 39 km directly to NGL 3200 using 18" pipeline. The light and heavy crude oil will be

pumped to West K. Pump Station (WKPS) using 18" pipelines and blend to other filed heavy

and light crude oil and finally to ABS station using 36"and 30" pipelines respectively.

Figure 1) Light and Heavy Crude Oil Export Pipeline Schematic

2. Scope of work

facilities for Export gas transmission for 18" excess gas transfer pipeline from CTEP to

NGL3200 unit and also 18" light and heavy crude oil to WKPS, 30" and 36" from WKPS to ABS

respectively.

6. Operating Envelope

6.1 Gas Export

Liquid condensation in export gas pipelines commonly occurs because of the

multicomponent nature of the transmitted natural gas and its associated phase behavior to

the inevitable temperature and pressure changes that occur along the pipeline.

Condensation subjects the export gas transmission pipeline to two-phase, gas/condensate,

flow transport. Hence, a better understanding of the flow characteristics is needed for the

proper design and operation of pipelines. The phase diagram of the pipeline system is

therefore plotted for determining the phase condition at any point in the pipe.

Figure 1 shows the traverses of the phase diagram for the Export gas/condensate system.

As can be seen, depending on the pressure and temperature variations, the hydrocarbon

mixture can exist as a single-phase, or as a two-phase mixture along the pipeline route.

Therefore, at anticipated Export lines operating pressures and temperatures, the fluids

will be two-phase stream flowing along the full length of the production pipeline.

6.2 Heavy Crude Oil

The phase diagram of the Heavy crude oil pipeline system is plotted for determining the

phase condition at any point in the pipe. Figure 2 shows the traverses of the phase

diagram for the Heavy crude oil system.

As can be seen, under operating condition in pipeline, Heavy crude oil is in liquid phase

and without phase change.

6.3 Light Crude Oil

The phase diagram of the light crude oil pipeline system is plotted for determining the

phase condition at any point in the pipe. Figure 3 shows the traverses of the phase

diagram for the light crude oil system.

7.1 Gas Export

An inherent problem with natural gas production or transmission is the formation of gas

hydrates, which can lead to safety hazards to production/transportation systems and to

substantial economic risks. Therefore, an understanding of when and where hydrates form

is necessary to overcoming hydrate problems.

The hydrate curve of Export gas field represents the thermodynamic boundary between

hydrate stability and dissociation. Conditions to the left of the curve represent situations

in which hydrates are stable and “can” form. Operating under such conditions does not

necessarily mean that hydrates will form, only that they are possible.

Considering Figure 1 and in accordance with the operating condition for export gas,

hydrate will not form in normal operating conditions.

According to the depressurizing study which has been done in transient hydraulic study

report, methanol injection package will not be considered, where the result is presented

in Tables 1. As can be seen from Table 1 hydrate will not form in normal operating

condition in export pipeline.

7.2 heavy Crude Oil

Considering Figure 2 and in accordance with the operating condition for Heavy crude oil,

hydrate will not form in normal operating conditions.

7.3 Light Crude Oil

Considering Figure 3 and in accordance with the operating condition for light crude oil,

hydrate will not form in normal operating conditions.

According to this study, methanol injection package will not necessary for hydrate

prevention in export pipeline.

8. Nitrogen System

Nitrogen bottles are provided as an actuator for each Line Break Valve in case of

startup valves and break pipelines(Nitrogen bottle for LBV is specified by LBV vendor).

Nitrogen for purging gas of pipelines in start up condition will be supplied by mobile

nitrogen generation package, therefore, required connections and piping shall be

considered for it.

9. Corrosion inhibitor injection system

Light and heavy crude oil are water, hydrogen sulphide and Carbon dioxide free and

according to MR 0175-2001 H2S content (Light crude oil=0 and Heavy crude oil 0.01%) is

less than 15% mol, therefore sulphide and carbon stress cracklings are negligible in crude

oil pipelines.

According to MR 0175-2001 figure 2, export gas consist of 15% mol H2S and pressure in

pipeline (1000 psig to 500 psig), export gas is in sulphide stress cracking region. Therefore

chemical corrosion inhibitor injection packages will be considered for continuous injection

and it is necessary for gas export pipeline.

The chemical injection package consists of 1+1 pressure chemical injection pumps, storage

tank with electrically driven mixer and associated piping system, control & starter panel

all and interconnecting cables, all installed on a common skid to provide self contained

corrosion inhibitor injection package for outdoor installation.

The Corrosion Inhibitor injection rate based on vendor data should be considered. The

corrosion inhibitor is injected to gas export pipeline.
