• National and Gamaba Award –RA no. 7355 also known as the Gawad Sa Manlilikha
Ng Bayan (gamaba) or The National Living Treasures Award.
- The National Commission For Culture and The Arts (NCCA) is the implementing
agency of the said law.
- Manlilikha ng bayan shall mean a citizens engaged in any traditional art uniquely
filipino whose distinctive skills have reached a high level of technical and artistic
excellence and have been passed on to and widely practiced by the present
generations in the community

Gamaba Awardees
1. Ginaw Bilog – an expert in ambahan poetry. preserve their culture of the Hanunoo
Mangyan language.
2. Masino Intaray - is a musician and storyteller from palawan.
3. Samoan Sulaiman - a musician from Mamasapao Maguindanao and excels in playing
the kutyapi.
4. Lang Dulay – is a t’boli textile dream weaver who hails from south catobato. She relives
the history of her tribe by means of weaving, her intricate design shows such thing.
5. Salinta Manoon - is a tagbanwa bagobo textile weaver who came from Bansalan Davao
del Sur, despite the absence of formal education or training she learned the art of
weaving from her mother and soon perfected it.
6. Alonzo Saclag –is a musician and dancer from Lainga. Teaches many people especially
his tribesmen in the performing arts so the culture of his ancestors will not be forgotten.
7. Federico Caballero - is an epic chanter from Iloilo, well versed with salodbukidnon, one
of the country’s indigenous languages.
8. Uwang Ahadas - is a musician of the Yakan Muslim tribes from Lamitan, Basilan. He
mastered the yakan musical instruments, kwintangan for women and agung for men.
9. Darhata Sawabi - is a tausug textile weaver from Sulu.
10. Eduardo Mutuc - is a profient metal smith for Apalit Pampanga, he specializes in
religious and secular art.
11. Haja Amina Appi - is a mat weaver of the Sama tribe from Tawitaw, respected for her
unique designs and straightness of her edging (tabig) and the fineness of her sasa and
kima-kima
12. Teofilo Garcia – is a casque maker who came from San Quintin Abra, even there is no
celebrity endorser, he is his own endorser of his product tabungaw. Alternative than the
conventional umbrella or cap.
13. Estelita Bantilan - is an expert mat weaver from Saranggani. Her natural instinct and
talent paved the way for her creativity in mat weaving. Her weaving is heavenly sought
by the people who wanted to emulate her.
14. Magdalena Gamayois - an ilocana textile weaver from Ilocos Norte. She help herself the
traditional patterns of binakol, inuritan (geometric design), kusikos (Spiral forms similar
to oranges) and sinan-sabong (flowers), which is the most challenging pattern.
15. Ambalang Ausalin - is a textile weaver who hails from Basilan. She possesses the
complex knowledge of the entire weaving process, aware at the same time of the
cultural significance of each textile design or category.
16. Yabing Masalon Dulo - is an ikat weaver from South Catobato, her ikan-dyed fabrics
with historical and cultural significance are sought after by people from all walks of life.
National Artists
1. Lauro “Larry “Alcala - famous for his cartoons. His comic strips spiced up the slices of
Filipino lives with witty illustrations executed throughout his 56 years of cartooning. He
created over 500 characters and 20 comic strips in widely circulated publications.
- Slice of life is his most iconic work which shows the images of filipino everyday life.
2. Amelia Lapeňa-Bonifacio - known as the Grand Dame of Southeast Asian children’s
theater. She is the founder and playwright director of the Teatrong Mulat ng Pilipinas,
which has placed the Philippines on the artistic map of world theater. (Puppetry)
3. Ryan Caybyab - the most accomplished composer, arranger, and musical director in the
Philippine music industry. His compositions reflects a perspective of music that extols
the exuberance of life and human happiness thus capturing an essence of the Filipino
soul.
4. Kidlat Tahimik - has continually invented himself through his cinema is as singular as
the man. His debut film, “Mababangong Bangungot” was praised by critics and film
makers from Europe, North America, Asia and Africa and is still considered by many as
pioneering post-colonial essay film. Tahimik’s intense independence as an artists and at
the same time the film itself is called for Filipinos to actively live out their independence
and not allow their culture to be imperialized by the west.
5. Francisco T. Anosa - for all his more than 60 years of architecture life, designed Filipino.
From 1960’s with his landmark design of the Sulo Hotel until his retirement in 2015. But
what is most valuable is the monosa was in the heart and soul of a Philippine
architectural movement. He has developed a legacy of Philippine architecture, which is
essential to our Filipino identity and at the same time deeply appreciated and shared in
our world today.
6. Resil B. Mojares is a teacher and scholar, essayist and fictionist and cultural and
historian. He is acknowledged as a leading figure in the promotion of regional literature
and history.
7. Ramon Muzones - a Hiligaynon poet, essayist, short story writer. Critic, grammarian,
editor, lexicographer and novelist who authored an unprecedented 61 complete novels.
