unapologetic individuals.
➢ Color Schemes (study the color wheel)
▪ Analogous- entails the use of three of four adjacent colors in the color wheel
▪ Complementary- Involves the use of a color and its complement--, meaning
the color located opposite of the first color

▪ Split- Complementary- close relative to the complementary color scheme,


but instead of using the color’s complement, this scheme uses the two colors
adjacent to the complement
▪ Triadic- uses three colors that are of equal distance with each other
▪ Tetradic- Also known as double complementary color scheme, this uses two
pairs of complementary colors

II. CONTEMPORARY ART IN THE PHILIPPINES


• INSTALLATION ART
▪ involves creating immersive, three-dimensional environments that transform
the viewer’s experiences of a space
• PERFORMANCE ART
▪ include dance, music, opera, theatre and musical theatre, magic, illusion,
mime, spoken word, puppetry, circus arts, stand-up comedy, improv,
professional wrestling and performance art.
▪ This art is a live action or event presented to an audience. Artists use their
bodies as a medium to convey ideas, emotions, and narratives.
• DIGITAL ART
• NEW MEDIA ART
▪ embraces a wide range of interdisciplinary practices that incorporate
technology, including virtual reality, augmented reality, video art, internet art,
and interactive installations
• STREET ART AND GRAFFITI
▪ emerged from urban environments and public spaces.
▪ Artists use various techniques, including stenciling, mural painting, and spray
painting, to create visually striking and often politically or socially charged
artworks.
▪ Street art and graffiti challenge the traditional notions of art and engage with
a broader audience outside the confines of galleries.

▪ In doing this art, the artist uses paint, ink, and collage.

▪ Artists create site-specific works using natural materials found in landscapes,
such as rocks, soil, water, and plants.

▪ Art that produced chiefly for its aesthetic value, as opposed to applied art.

III. NATIONAL ARTIST


• REPUBLIC ACT NO. 3846
➢ It is considered the premiere institution for arts and culture in the country. The CCP
was established in 1966 through this Republic Act and officially inaugurated on
September 8, 1969
• REPUBLIC ACT NO. 7356
➢ also known as the "Law Creating the National Commission for Culture and the Arts”.

➢ The Order of National Artists. The award aims to recognize individuals who have
achieved excellence and mastery in their respective artistic fields and have made a
significant impact on Philippine culture.

individual must have made a lasting impact on the artistic and cultural landscape of the
Philippines through their work.

• CARLOS “BOTONG” FRANCISCO


➢ Was a Filipino muralist from Angono Rizal
➢ Notable creation is “First mass in Limasawa”, “Bayanihan”, and “The Progress of
Medicine in the Philippines”
• NAPOLEON ABUEVA
➢ He is also entitled as the “Father of Modern Philippine Sculpture”. He was awarded
National Artist of the Philippines in the field of Visual Arts.
➢ Also known for creating “buoyant sculpture” which is a type of sculpture to be
viewed from the surface of a pool.
➢ Example creation is “The Transfiguration” and “Hardin ng mg Diwata”
• BENEDICTO CABRERA
➢ known as "BenCab", is a Filipino painter who was conferred a National Artist of the
Philippines for Visual Arts (Painting) in 2006.
➢ He has been noted as "arguably the best-selling painter of his generation of Filipino
artists."
• VICTORIO C. EDADES
➢ Recognized as the father of modern painting.
➢ His art is an expression of man’s emotion which means you can do art the way you
want it to be. That is why there are no perspective lines/realistic patterns in his
artworks
• FRANCISCO COCHING
➢ Acknowledged as the “Dean of Filipino Illustrators” and son of noted Tagalog
novelist and comics illustrator Gregorio Coching
➢ was a master storyteller.
• PABLO S. ANTONIO
➢ Considered as a pioneer in modern Philippines Architecture
• RONALD ALAN K. POE
➢ known as Fernando Poe, Jr., he is considered an icon of the film industry working as
an actor, director, writer and producer.
• LEVI CELERIO
➢ Most known for his recognition as the only man who could play music with a leaf in
the Guinness Book of World Records.
➢ He also earned Lifetime Achievement Award of the Film Academy of the Philippines
for writing songs for local movies.
➢ He was also known as the dean of Filipino lyricists.
• ANDREA VENERACION
➢ She was the founder of the world-renowned University of the Philippines Madrigal
Singers, or simply the Philippine Madrigal Singers, which is the first choir in the
world to win the European Grand Prix for Choral Singing twice.
