Introductory Message
This Self-Learning Module (SLM) is prepared so that you, our
dear learners, can continue your studies and learn while at home.
Activities, questions, directions, exercises, and discussions are
carefully stated for you to understand each lesson.
Each SLM is composed of different parts. Each part shall
guide you step-by-step as you discover and understand the lesson
prepared for you.

What I Need to Know


This module was designed and written with you in mind. It is
here to help you master the skill of identifying and classifying
different things found in your surroundings including their
importance. The scope of this module allows it to be used in
many different learning situations. The language used recognizes
the different vocabulary levels of students. The lessons are
arranged to follow the standard sequence of the course. But the
order in which you read them can be changed to be similar to the
textbook you are now using.

The module is divided into four lessons, namely:


• Lesson 1 – Landforms in the Community
• Lesson 2 – Water forms
• Lesson 3 – Things in the Surroundings
• Lesson 4 – Importance of Surroundings to People and Other
Living Things

After going through this module, you are expected to:

A landform is the shape and form of the earth’s land surface.


Landforms can be mountains, hills, valleys, plateaus, plains, and
volcanoes.

A mountain is the highest

Water is very important to all living things. People, animals,


and plants need water to survive. There are different bodies of
water such as stream, spring, river, pond, lake, sea, and ocean.

What is It

People use different parts of plants and trees for raw


materials in building houses and making clothing. We also use
