COMMON CHILDHOOD DISEASES – common diseases are contagious or can be spread from
one person to another. It is important we know how to prevent these diseases from
spreading.

 Some children have higher chances to have the disease while others do not.

FACTORS THAT INCREASE THE CHANGES OF GETTING SICK OF A DISEASE:


1. HEREDITY
 It means certain traits that parents may pass to their children. It can be mother’s skin
color, father’s height.
 They may also pass diseases. If a mother has a heart disease, she may pass on the
disease to any of her children. It may be possible that none of them will have the
disease.
 Having parents with hereditary disease increases the children’s risk or chance of
having the disease as well.

2. LIFESTYLE
 Refers to the practices that a person often does or the way the person lives.
 Lifestyle affects one’s health.
 A healthy lifestyle will result to good health. An unhealthy lifestyle will result in poor
health. A person with a good health can avoid diseases.
Some healthy lifestyle practices:
o Observe proper hygiene – helps in eliminating germs.
o Drink plenty of water – helps you get rid of germs and other wastes from your
body.
o Get enough sleep – having enough rest and sleep helps strengthen the immune
system.
o Exercise and play – regular exercise helps a person become fit and stronger.
o Eat healthy foods – it makes the body healthy and helps protect a person from
diseases.

3. ENVIRONMENT
 Refers to the things around us. It is the place where we live.
 A clean place helps prevent diseases like dengue, chicken pox and measles.
 A dirty environment attracts insects and pests. This becomes their breeding ground.
 Pests like rats and other insects carry germs that cause different diseases.
Malaria is a disease that is transmitted through a mosquito bite.

PRINTMAKING – allows the reproduction of a drawing or painting.


 Many copies of a single drawing or painting can be produced through painting.
 Prints are done using materials when an image can be transferred.
Examples: wood, metal or fine-mesh silkscreen, object found in nature

PRINTED SIGNS are important because they tell us names of places and things.
 It teaches us directions and guide us in making decisions like street signs.
 They are all around us, in stores, restaurants, street signs, posters.

LETTER STENCILS are ready-made lettering or designed letters of the alphabet that are used
for print.
 These letters can be rubbed so as to be transferred on paper. They can be mechanically
cut out or cut out by hands for printing.

What makes printed signs attractive?


Prints and letter prints can be made beautiful and attractive by repeating and contrasting
shapes, lines and colored.

PRINTMAKING TECHNIQUES
TECHNIQUE DESCRIPTION
WOOD BLOCK PRINTING - The artists carve their designs into a wooden plank.

DIGITAL PRINTING - A method of printing from a digital-based image


directly to a variety of media.
- Uses a high-volume laser of inkjet printers.
