BSIT PROGRAM AT A GLANCE

The Ramon Magsaysay Technological University (RMTU), now The President

Ramon Magsaysay State University (PRMSU) renamed through Republic Act 11015,

s. 2017, as a comprehensive university in the region. This is through the effort of

Congresswoman Hon. Cheryll P. Deloso Montalla of Second District of Zambales. The

PRMSU is a merger of three public education institution in the province of Zambales,

The University charter integrated the former Ramon Magsaysay Polytechnic College

(RMPC) in Iba, the western Luzon Agricultural College (WLAC) in San Marcelino, and

the Candelaria School of Fisheries (CSF) in Candelaria. The strength of its parent-

institutions, which had existed since the early 1900s, serves as PRMSU’s springboard

for its accelerated growth and development.

The Ramon Magsaysay Polytechnic College (RMPC) in 1998 which is now

PRMSU’s main Campus, was founded as a farm school in 1910. It was converted into

a provincial trade school in 1919. Through the years, it metamorphous into Zambales

Trade School of Arts and Trades in 1935,

After the merging of these institutions by virtue of Republic Act No. 8498, s.

1998, The College of Industrial Technology made a distinctive identity for the

university. As a distinct college, it offered the Two-Year Trade Technical Courses

leading to the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology (BSIT). It was offered as a


program of the Technical and Vocational Education Project (TVEP) of the Ministry of

Education Culture and Sports (MECS). It was introduced to train young people in

technical skills to meet the demand of the industry and improve the socio-economic

development of the country.

At present time, the College of Industrial Technology is utilizing the BSIT

Curriculum crafted by the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities in

Industrial Technology Incorporated. (PACUIT Inc.) now, the BS in Industrial

Technology and awaiting for the approval from the Commission on Higher Education

for its CMO’s /PSG. Furthermore, in 2015, the College offered the Bachelor of

Technical Teacher Education (BTTE) which was then replaced by the Bachelor of

Technical Vocational Teacher Education (BTVTEd) in 2018. The Bachelor in

Technical-Vocational Teacher Education (BTVTEd) program is a four-year teacher

education program designed to equip future teachers with adequate and relevant

competencies in the area of technical and vocational teacher education. It also aims

to develop highly competent and motivated teachers in Technology and Livelihood

Education in their area of specialization. CIT also started offering the Bachelor of

Technology and Livelihood Education (BTLEd) program major in Industrial Arts in

2018. The BTLE program is an undergraduate teacher education program that equips
learners with adequate and relevant competencies in the area of Technology and

Livelihood Education.

The College of Industrial Technology is offering courses in technology since

1975. Catering to the supply of skilled industrial workers abroad and in the region

considering the demand of the industry, particularly in the Subic Bay Metropolitan

Authority (SBMA), Including the Hanjin Industrial Corporation and Clark Development

Authority. The College offers a BSIT program with different major fields of

Specialization; ELECTRONICS TECHNOLOGY, ELECTRICAL TECHNOLOGY,

MACHINE SHOP TECHNOLOGY, DRAFTING TECHNOLOGY, AUTOMOTIVE

TECHNOLOGY, COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY, FOOD TECHNOLOGY, WELDING

and FABRICATION TECHNOLOGY, FURNITURE and CABINET MAKING

TECHNOLOGY.

The College ensure its mandate to train highly skilled workers and prepare

well-trained industrial technicians and technologies to meet the challenges in the

world of work. The program provides technological knowledge and skills enables the

individual to analyze the job problems and execute appropriate solutions; develop

entrepreneurial competencies to develop individuals to be self-employed and self-

productive; preserve and develop the cultural heritage and resources through

technological research and inculcate desirable values and work ethics such as a
crucial factor in national development; equip students with the necessary skills to

become a more competitive and productive skilled worker; hone students to become

adaptive and innovative of current technologies to cope with local needs yet globally

aggressive; train students to undertake research and conduct extension activities;

preserve, enrich and promote desirable Filipino Cultural heritage and show its

relevance to contemporary Filipino society.
