Course Objectives
1.To understand that the nature is a vast matter/issue and it is
created by Allaah SWT as part of the Complete universal System for
the benefit of mankind.

2.To recognize comprehend that the nature is full of science and

therefore, scientific knowledge is discovered from the nature, and
technology is developed by human based on scientific knowledge.

3.To recognize the Qur’an and Ahadeeth laid down huge

importance on acquiring scientific knowledge and design and
develop systems and devices (technology) for human comfort and
ease of life.
Course Objective
4.To learn the extent of contributions done by scholars, Muslims and non-
Muslims alike, for the societal, economic, and technological development.

5.To emphasize the concept of sustainable development in terms of

economic, social and environmental (balanced) via technological growth.

6.To investigate how the universe was created in balanced manner and
how human actions eroded that balance and brought about calamities.

7.To realize how the Qur’an and Ahadeeth laid down emphasis in carrying
out research for maintaining the balance of nature and human-
development.
• The Qur’an is not a book of Science but a book of ‘Signs’, i.e.
Aayaats.

• There are more than six thousand ‘Signs’ in the Qur’an of

which more than a thousand deal with hard core Science.

• From an Islamic standpoint, science, the study of nature, is

considered to be linked to the concept of Tawhid (the Oneness
of God), as are all other branches of knowledge.
Relationship: What?
Qur’an and Science :
The Relationship…

1. NATURE:
Knowledge
• Qur’an is a divine words and
there is no doubt in it.
Revealed Acquired
• Science is an acquired eg. Qur’an
knowledge through
observation, study and Naturally
experimentation.
Study, Observation and
Experimentation
Qur’an and Science :

2. AUTHENTICITY:

• Qur’an is an authentic
book. Allah says:
‫ب‌ۛ‌فِي ِ‌ه‬ َ ‫اب َ‌َل‬
َ ‫‌رْ‌ي‬ ْ ‫‌ٰذَ ِل َك‬
ُ َ ‫‌ال ِكت‬
• “This is the Book (the
Qur'an), whereof there
is no doubt,” (2:2)
• On the other hand,
scientific information is
not certain as it could
be changed any time.

Qur’an and Science :
The Relationship…
4. GOAL
Qur’an Science
•The ultimate goal of the Qur’an is to •Science helps to
guide the mankind from the wrong way develop and prove the
to the right path for being success in idea towards
this world and Hereafter. The Qur’an promoting the daily
says: life.
“(This is) a Book which We have revealed unto you (O
Muhammad) in order that you might lead mankind
out of darkness into light by their Lord's Leave to the
Path of the All-Mighty, the Owner of all Praise.”
• Qur’an has invited man to study science in different ways.
• Many of its verses ask people to observe and study or think carefully
different natural objects, like stars, rivers, plants animals, birds etc.
and learn or gather knowledge from them. Therefore, it says:
• “… See how Allah did originate Creation.” (29:20)
• “… Verily in these things there are signs for those who reflect.”
(13:3; 30: 21; 45:13)
Branches of Science
Mentioned in Qur’an
• Attentive reading and analysis of the verses
related to suggestions for science education
reveal that in fact all branches of modern
science such as Astronomy, Physics,
Chemestry,Environmental Science,
Oceanography, Meteorology, Hydrology,
Geology, Zoology, Botany, Medical Science,
, Technical Science or Engineering etc., have
been mentioned in the Qur’an. Some are cited
bellow:
Geological Science

• Allah has asked man to study

geologized science in a number of
verses, for example:
(And a sign for them is the dead land.
We give it life, and We bring forth
from it grains, so that they eat
thereof.) (Surah Yasin: 36:33)
Geological Science

• (Andat the mountains, how they

are rooted (and fixed firm)?)

• (And at the earth, how it is

outspread?) (88: 19-20)
Water Resources:
Hydrology and Hydrography
• It has been established by scientists of biological
science that water is the essential life supporting
ingredient for life and life began in water as well.
Allah says:
• (And We have made from water every living
thing) (21:30)
• “ And Allah has created every animal from Water”
(24:45)
• “It is He Who has created man from water”
(25:54)
Oceanic
• In this regard, Allah says:
Resources
“And He it is Who has subjected
the sea (to you), that you eat
thereof fresh tender meat (i.e.
fish), and that you bring forth out
of it ornaments to wear. And you
see the ships ploughing through it,
that you may seek (thus) of His
Bounty (by transporting the goods
from place to place) and that you
may be grateful.” (16:14)
Oceanic Resources
• In another verse, Allah says:
“ Allah, it is He Who has
subjected to you the sea, that
ships may sail through it by
His Command, and that you
may seek of His Bounty, and
that you may be thankful.”
(45:12)
Agriculture and Climate
• Allah says:
“And it is He Who sends the winds as
indication of glad tidings, going before His
Mercy (rain). Till when they have carried a
heavy-laden cloud, We drive it to a land
that is dead, then We cause water (rain) to
descend thereon. Then We produce every
kind of fruit therewith. Similarly, We shall
raise up the dead, so that you may
remember or take heed.” (7:57)
Botany: Plant Life
• The Qur’an states:
• “Itis He Who sends down water (rain) from the sky,
and with it We bring forth vegetation of all kinds, and
out of it We bring forth green stalks, from which We
bring forth thick clustered grain. And out of the date-
palm and its spathes come forth clusters of dates
hanging low and near, and gardens of grapes, olives
and pomegranates, each similar (in kind) yet different
(in variety and taste). Look at their fruits when they
begin to bear, and the ripeness thereof. Verily! In these
things there are signs for people who believe.” (6:99)
Botany: Plant Life
• It also mentions:
“ Glory be to Him Who has
created all the pairs of that
which the earth produces, as
well as of their own (human)
kind (male and female), and of
that which they know not.”
(36:36)
Zoology and Veterinary
Science
• The Qur’an states:
“Allah has created every moving (living) creature
from water. Of them there are some that creep on
their bellies, and some that walk on two legs, and
some that walk on four. Allah creates what He
wills. Verily Allah is Able to do all things.”
(24:45)
“And verily! In the cattle, there is a lesson for
you. We give you to drink of that which is in
their bellies, from between excretions and blood,
pure milk; palatable to the drinkers.” (16:66)
Chemical Science
• Allah says:
• “See you the fire which you kindle.”
(56:71)
• “(He) Who produces for you fire out
of the green tree, when behold? You
Kindle therewith (your own fire)!”
(36:80)
8.
• The Qur’an mentions:
Medical Science
• “Let man but think from what he is
created.” (86:5)
• “Was he not a Nutfah (mixed male and
female sexual discharge) of semen
emitted (poured forth)? Then he
became an 'Alaqah (a clot); then
(Allah) shaped and fashioned (him) in
due proportion. And made of him two
sexes, male and female.” (75:37-39)
Physics
• “Have they not observed things that
Allah has created: (how) their
shadows incline to the right and to
the left, making prostration unto
Allah, and they are lowly? And to
Allah prostrate all that is in the
heavens and all that is in the earth, of
the moving (living) creatures and the
angels, and they are not proud [i.e.
they worship their Lord (Allah) with
humility].” (16:48-49)
Astrophysics and
Space Physics
• “ It is Allah Who has
Created the heavens and the
earth and all between
them…”. (32:4)
• “And He has subjected to
you the night and the day,
and the sun and the moon;
and the stars are subjected
by His Command. Surely, in
this are proofs for people
who understand.” (16;12)
11. Technical
Science
• “And indeed We bestowed
grace on Dawud (David) from
Us (saying): "O you mountains.
Glorify (Allah) with him! And
you birds (also)! And We made
the iron soft for him. Saying:
"Make you perfect coats of
mail, and balance well the rings
of chain armour, and work you
(men) righteousness. Truly, I am
All-Seer of what you do.”
(34:10-11)
