Chapter 1

INTRODUCTION

Situational Analysis
The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a dramatic loss of human life worldwide and

presents an unprecedented challenge to public health, food systems and the world of

work. The economic and social disruption caused by the pandemic is devastating: tens of

millions of people are at risk of falling into extreme poverty, while the number of

undernourished people, currently estimated at nearly 690 million, could increase by up to

132 million by the end of the year (WHO).

In terms of the world of work problem stated above, millions of enterprises face

an existential threat. Nearly half of the world’s 3.3 billion global workforce are at risk of

losing their livelihoods. Informal economy workers are particularly vulnerable because

the majority lack social protection and access to quality health care and have lost access

to productive assets. Without the means to earn an income during lockdowns, many are

unable to feed themselves and their families. For most, no income means no food, or, at

best, less food and less nutritious food ( LAO, IFAD & WHO, 2020).

While in the food situation, the pandemic has been affecting the entire food

system and has laid bare its fragility. Border closures, trade restrictions and confinement

measures have been preventing farmers from accessing markets, including for buying

inputs and selling their produce, and agricultural workers from harvesting crops, thus

disrupting domestic and international food supply chains and reducing access to healthy,

safe and diverse diets Criskaden, 2020. Unfortunately, the pandemic has decimated jobs

and placed millions of livelihoods at risk. As breadwinners lose jobs, fall ill and die, the

food security and nutrition of millions of women and men are under threat, with those in

low-income countries, particularly the most marginalized populations, which include

small-scale farmers and indigenous peoples, being hardest hit. As the world health

organization created the health protocol to lessen the scale of death and cases of the

coronavirus disease they also inflicted the higher chances of different issues.

However, the effect of various public health measures to contain the COVID-19

pandemic is not yet fully understood. Furthermore, recent studies increasingly support

quarantine measures as an effective precaution to curb transmission of the virus.

Moreover, quarantine appeared to be an effective virus mitigation measure in several

countries during previous SARS outbreaks in 2003 including Singapore, Canada and

China (Anna-leena, 2021). There are various kinds of isolation and quarantine measures

as well as systems to follow up on the implementation of these measures worldwide. In

Finland, isolation and quarantine measures are home based with an official notification

about the measures and regular phone-based follow up by health officials. Quarantined

persons without symptoms are usually not tested. Persons in quarantine are allowed to go

out in public as long as they are not in contact with other people. However, going to

work, school, or shopping is not permitted during quarantine (Timothee Dub, 2021). This

is based on the Communicable Diseases Act Infectious Disease Law that stipulates that

both quarantine and isolation are obligatory. Breach of the law is punishable by up to

three months of imprisonment. However, follow up on the adherence of the law is not

systematic.

Unfortunately, in the unplanned event those in quarantine determined themselves

isolated at domestic, without their typical routines. This rise in unstructured time,

combined with the enormous stress of the pandemic and its far fetching consequences on

both health and the economy, has led to widespread concerns, including worry about

social stigma (Anna-Leena, 2021). Stigma is a well-documented global barrier to health-

seeking behavior, engagement in care, and adherence to treatment across a range of

health conditions including infectious diseases. It may also occur due to patient isolation

and quarantine procedures.

Abovementioned, this stigma operates across different levels including in the

public sphere through public policies, in organizations, and in communities through

cultural values, norm, and attitudes in communities. Stigma also operates in interpersonal

relations related to family and friends, and on an individual level related to the

knowledge and skills of individuals to manage stigma (Hanna Nohynek, 2021). Although

previous studies indicate many similarities regarding stigma across countries, stigma is

also known to be context-specific, which necessitates understanding stigma in the given

context. COVID-19-related stigma has been reported in number of countries such as in

India, Ethiopia, Japan and Uganda. Stigma against healthcare workers associated with the

care of coronavirus patients has been reported widely as well. However, little is known

about the nature of coronavirus and COVID-19-related stigma, which is paramount for

developing effective stigma reduction strategies.

In addition, several studies have investigated the psychological experience of

quarantined individuals during major infectious disease outbreaks, but less focus has been

given to social and behavioral research that is necessary to develop meaningful support

strategies for those isolated or quarantined (Timothee Dub, 2021). This study aims to

review the forms, drivers, outcomes, and impact of social stigma towards those with

coronavirus and COVID-19 and their family members, and to shed light on their

quarantine experiences in order to develop operational recommendations for public health

officials in Finland and other similar cultural settings to better support people during and

after quarantine or isolation.

The coronavirus change the world in just a nap of our glittering eyes and the

people who live happy infiltrate by the fear and continuous illness. With this reason, the

leaders of country follow the world health organization to mitigate the spread of the

virus. Furthermore, to lessen the mortality rate that cause by the unseen enemy of the

people across the world.

In this regard, the research conduct this study to address a certain inquiry that

need to be answered and this is to know how the individual social life change and how

this affect the life of every single Filipino in respect to the current situation we are facing

already.

In the numerous studies conducted pertaining to the topic chosen which the

experiences of the student during the pandemic. A systematic literature review of these

studies presented that most of the studies conducted is about the experiences of the

people amidst the pandemic. In the way examination the researchers studies used a

formulated interview questionnaire resulted that most of the qualitative and quantitative

data are pertain to the sociological aspect of the people.

In addition, in the study of Toran et. al.(2020). During the Turkestan and Chinese

quarantine process the cultural in differences between the parents did not appear to

significantly reflect the responses of parents during the period of crisis.

Meanwhile, some of the study like Lages et. al.(2020), stated that " the household

income loss as well as impairment on some domains" which says that the occurring

quarantine cause by the pandemic give a high rate of unemployment as a mass gathering

in a place is prohibited to mitigate the increasing Covid19 cases. Another study that is

according to James &Comfort (2020) is that the Covid19 reveals a drastic effect the crisis

has had on sustainability in the hospitality industry. That crisis has offered a vision of a

more sustainable future.

Aside from that, in the learn about of Bilal & Samira (2020) which stated that the

most of the people during the urge of the coronavirus disease stay at home and the news

always talking to the disease which the people always checking the details about what is

happening to the country aside from that the family member are the only people they can

rely on and interact with. In connection to this, the quarantine take on a new role of

interaction as they getting trained from social distancing that being suggested of the

WHO. Furthermore, the activities that were often judged to be unnecessary and

individual activities became the focus in the midst of pandemic. Characteristically, their

spheres of action were reduced and activities that connect with people and leisure

activities disappeared, Atakashima et. al. (2020).

On the other hand, the practices of the family change as the family integration

brought on by the pandemic in the face of constrained and health care protocol which

being normalize now and then. The teachers’ practices in teaching also takes in different

place which technology is the medium of reaching the students and implies knowledge

from them. In this regard, the student has negative responses on the online classes based

on their experiences that they being struggle to cope up to the new situation and learning

process brought by the pandemic. However, student in Saudi revealed a positive and

negative impacts to the new social and educational lives of students in terms of the e-

learning.

A gap in the studies is seen in the way of in-depth exploration as to the

experiences of the people amidst the pandemic that were actually studying. Furthermore,

it seems to be the studies done is deemed more on the economic growth and family

related during the coronavirus. Also, they appears to be ambiguous of data on the

research study that can lead us for having difficulty to excavate the information needed.

Furthermore, each study focused on specific aspects of economic and practices of the

people that hard to reconcile with the idea.

On the stated research gaps, the researcher want to conduct this study to ascertain

the inquiry imposed above. The purpose of this paper is to Study and narrate the

experience of the individual and knowing how they become suited for the current time.

At this stage the researcher defined a personal theories pertaining to their own experience

during the pandemic that is necessary for individuality and life development.

Supplementary, skills development can improve productivity and help workers, including

youth, diversify their employment opportunities. Yet, skills development programmes

have been greatly affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, Tauvik Muhamad, 2020.

Framework of the Study

The study is guided by theories. The following are some of the included theories

that support the researchers and the paper. Theory of interactionist by Coakley,

According to Coakley Interactionist Theory, this is based on the ideas that when

the human beings interact with one another they give meanings to themselves, others and

the world around them. Interactionist give sense of who we are and how we are

connected to a number of things including families, friends and their practices and habits

which the interaction with the social world enrich us. Furthermore, it is always changing

depends on the time and place and people that are involved.

This theory of Coakley promotes social connection between people so that they

can cooperate with one another. They also motivate the government to achieve socially

approved goals through socially accepted means. The connection at the midst of

pandemic is highly necessary in order to be always updated and supplement the

knowledge we don’t know yet, however interaction personally is much better.

To the discussion of the theory he entails that this is the process which emphasize

the importance of observing, modelling and imitating the behaviours, attitudes and

emotional of others. In addition, it considers how environmental and cognitive factors

interacts to influence human learning and behaviour. Individuals that are observed are

models. In society everyone are surrounded by many influential models that provide

examples of behaviour.

The applied in the study has aspect that the people adapt things in their

environment when they are engaged in social activities. Supplement the idea that social

interaction must still be done amidst the Covid19 in respected to the health protocol

because this give the way on how individual will behave at the time of the pandemic.

According to the quotation of Athey (2007) she describes those children learn

from their environment and the people around them, and also children are more active in

learning with their parents roles which is connected to the theory proposed by

Paget’s(1981) Theory of social development.

It is the concept of the study that upon interaction with other people we have the

opportunity to learn more. The learning will be take place by exchanging ideas and

thought with other, the social well-being will be completely worth it by being socially

interactive. Being active in interaction and socializing ourselves is something we not

burden as we more boast our confidence and filling our mind with word of wisdom that

we can use in different situation.

The way we engage our self to interaction with others will be an opportunity to be

open-minded as we going to acknowledge the new ideas that people sharing with us and

think a new application that we can relate to our situation. The way we approach other

will also be improved and will deem our relationship with others especially with our

parents. As instance, they can easily open the table to address some issues like school

activities, problems etc.

The theory also entails that we imitate and set as a model to our learning

especially in adapting the environment.

Statement of the problem

The main purpose of this study is to narrate the experiences of the students during

the COVID 19 pandemic. Specifically, this study will seek to answer the following

questions:

1. What are their experiences during the pandemic?

2. How COVID affected their interaction?

3. What are the current perspectives regarding to social interrelationship?

Definition of terms

For further understanding of the research. The researcher presented the terms

conceptually and operationally defined to avoid the confusion of the readers.

Coronavirus is also known as the covid19 is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-

cov-2 virus.

Social life is the part of a person time spent doing enjoyable things with others.

Online learning is the education that takes place over the internet.

Health protocol is the detailed plan of a medical procedure especially in mitigating the

virus.

Learning involves understanding, relating ideas and making connections between prior

and new knowledge.

Pandemic is the global epidemic that spreads not online in one continent rather in more

continent.

Social interrelationship is the connection that exist between people who have recurring

interactions that perceived by the participants.

METHODOLOGY

Research design

The research method that is used for this study is Narrative approach and through

this method researcher used qualitative-narrative inquiry to gather data which entails the

people through record experiences of an individual or small group (students), revealing

the experience or particular perspectives of that individual, usually primary through

interviews which then recorded and ordered into chronological narrative. Narrative

research was considered by the researcher as a way to democratise the documentation and

experience of wider gamut of the society (Deikin University, 2021).

Sources of Data

Ten students are selected as the respondents for the research. In the manner of

selecting the respondents or population needed for the research study. The researcher are

oblige to focuses on the potential/target respondent who have the familiarity with the

phenomenon. Upon selection the researcher must find participants who are willing to

speak about their experiencing without using threat or force power to respond to the

study. The participant for the research is ten person to have the minimum respondent to a

qualitative research study. The process of selecting is upon inclusion criterion.

Instrumentation and Data Collection

The researchers will be used interviews and even surveys or questionnaire are the

tools to gather the data needed to the study. The instrument will be used research

formulated questionnaire which need to be validated in order to verify the validity of the

researchers questionnaire.

This will help a lot to research as they can collect is easily and identify the answer

that the respondent do. The data is collected to further subjective to the hypothesis testing

which seeks to explain a phenomenon. Upon collecting data the researchers should not

bias by showing their emotion and feelings about the process of data collection.

Analysis of Data

Qualitative analysis can be a lot of work. In many ways, qualitative data can be

challenging and time consuming to analyse and interpret (Warren, 2020). This research

study followed the general process that research uses as stated by Creswell (2013).

Step 1: Gather and organize data for analysis

Step 2: Reducing the data into themes via coding and condensing codes

Step 3: display the data in figures, tables or discussion

Using this method, the collected data was then reduced. With this, the researcher

was able to have an in-depth reflection with regard to the experiences of students during

the pandemic. Guided by the general process stated by Creswell (2013), the researchers

were able to determine the case and write description of it.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

Experiences of students during pandemic

The researcher gather the information through interviews that consist of six

questions answering by the selected respondent of the research which is the college

student. The different questions caters to answer the statement of the problem to describe

the experience of the students during the hike of the pandemic. The feeling urge, their

action, personally encountering will be deem on the experiences of the students.

Wherein, six out of ten respondent said that they are indulge with more

responsibility during the pandemic as they are loaded with activity from the schools then

a household’s responsibility on their house. From this which implies that they struggle a

lot during the pandemic and don’t have time for some rest even at night. The cited

statement is came from respondent 1, respondent 3, respondent 4, respondent 8, 9 and 10

states that they are pamper with works unlike before.

Respondent 1: asa bahay lang ako pero sobrang

daming Gawain lalo nab ago palang satin yun sitwasyon.

Daming school requirements tapos nadagdagan pa ng

Gawain bahay. …kaya naman dinapo ako masyado

makatulog kakaisip don… (I’m just in the house but during

that time I have a lot of works especially the scene is new

to me. There’s a lot of school requirement plus a house

holds chores. …that’s why I don’t have enough sleep…)

Respondent 3: “actually po napakadami kasi aside

from schools activities meron din pong mga Gawain bahay

dagdag pa po rito yung pagbabantay ng bata.

...kaya po na stress ako…” (Actually, here is a lot

aside from schools activity there still house holds chores

plus the baby sitting. …that’s why I’m stress…)

Respondent 4: “tulad po ng karamihan mga bagay

po na ginagawa ko is schools activities tapos minsan mga

pinapagawa po nila sa bahay.” (like most of the people

things like paper works/school activities then sometimes

they let me do something in the house)

Respondent 8: “ natutulog po minsan naglilinis at

minsan naluluto po pero a activity po ako nadadamihan

lalo na ang konti ng panahon na binibigay nila sa

napakadaming activity”(… sleeping, sometimes I cook and

clean the hosue but I’m on more activity giving, that they

give us short of time to finish a lot of activity).

Respondent 9: “masyado po kong busy sa mga

bagay bagay na ibinibigay sakin tulad ng module at sa

mga Gawain bahay na hindi matapos tapos magagalit pa

sila pag naupo kalang saglit” (I’m too busyon different

things that is given to me like my school module and

different household chores that ins’t ended then they get

mad if I just sit for a while)

Respondent 10: “dumami po yung responsibilidad

ko eh ma pa sa bahay man, sa pamangkin ko at sa mga

Gawain ko sa school tapos mag o online class pa” ( my

responsibility multiply in the house, with my niece and

nephew, and to my module and online class).

All the student having their own battles and the six out of ten have the hardest

work among them. They work at day to night just to have the time to finish them in a day

and rush things to submit it on time. Unfortunately, the negative effect of the way they

work is that they can cause their body to feel sick. As they lack of sleep and also

experiencing stress because of the over work. Meanwhile, the four out of ten respondents

said that they have the quality time for relaxation but still have to finish their school

activities unlike the respondent above that they give more responsibility and doesn’t have

time to relax.

Respondent 2: “..Nasa bahay lang po ako and relax

lang po sa umaga tapos mag rurush ng activity pag

duedate na po and thankful po ako kasi di ako pinapagawa

sa bahay.” (I’m just in the house and relax in the morning

then going to rush my activity at the day of duedate and

I’m thankful because they don’t give me house works)

Respondent 5: “mostly po babad po sa internet

games and mga kdramas and sa activity din po lalo wala

napong discussion bigay nalang ng module tapos bahala

kana.” ( Mostly, I’m soaked with internet games and

Korean dramas and in my activity especially there is no

more discussion they will just give and its up to you to

finish.)

Respondent 6: “nasa mga halaman lang po ako

habang gumagawa ng activities buti na lang po at di ako

pinapagawa sa bahay” (I’m just in the garden doing my

activities and luckily they don’t give me house hold

chores).

Respondent 7: “ nagninilay nilay lang po ako

iniisip mga ibat ibang bagay wala din po kasi ako s focus

sa online learnin eh kaya nahihiga na lang po ako ganun”

(I’m just lying on my bed thinking about random things

because I don’t have the focus in online learning so that’s

why have free time).

In the other hand the two remaining respondent having the time for leisure has the

advantages in creating their activity in school yet they manifest procrastination as they

are attracted with online games and sometimes just waiting for the deadline. In

connection with the additional works, this case urge some struggles to our respondent that

make them experience difficulty in during the time of doing their different task assign

from them. The struggles meet by the respondent have different reasons causes them to

stress their selves six out of ten respondents struggles on managing their time to finish

their works that causes them to pass it late. As the two struggles the effect of this to their

performance, active and grade with be bad.

Respondent 1: “…napakahirap po humabol sa mga

deadline dahil sa tambak na Gawain lalo napo hindi ako

makafocus dahil sa dami ng ginagawa ko. Kaya diko po

minsan nsusubmit in duedate.” (Its really hard to meet the

deadline because of bombarded works especially I can’t

focus on my work. So sometimes I didn’t meet the

deadline.)

Respondent 3: “sa pagti time management po ako

talaga nahirap kasi super siksik nako sa mga dapat gawin

sa bahay tapos sa schools pa po. Lalo nap o sa bahay ako

po ang panganay nasa balikat ko lahat ng responsibilidad

sa mga kapatid ko po.” ( I really struggle on time

management because I’m dense with works in house and

school especially I’m the eldest which all responsibility

with my siblings is within my shoulders)

Respondent 7: “… na o out of focus po talaga ako

sa mga activity lalo po hindi ko maisingit sa mga

pinapagawa sakin sa bahay kaya kadalasan late po ako at

minsan naman po hindi ko na naipapasa pa yung activity”

Respondent 8: “…dahil nga po nagsasabay sabay

yung pagbibigay nila ng activity at hindi matapos tapos na

gawaing bahay ang hirap po maghanap ng time para

magpahinga kaya di po umaabot sa deadine yung mga

activities ko”(

Respondent 9: “dahil madami po ang pinapagawa

sakin sa bahay at sa school hindi ko po alam kung ano

uunahin ko dahil na ra rattle ako sa sobang kalituhan at

dami nila”

Respondent 10: “kulang po talaga ako sa time na

naibibigay sa mga module kasi madami poi yon tapos

kailangan mo talagang magbasa sa bahay naman

kailangan nila ako para makatulong kaya diko po

napapass agad mga activity ko”

Moreover, the four out of ten respondent state that they experiences struggle in

the part that they didn’t understand the module send by them and the new setting of

learning. As they being set into new way of learning the absence of discussion will lead

to the issue mention a while ago. Especially before covid19 occur most of the student

learn through interactive discussion in the classroom setting. In this regard, they rely on

browsing the internet and even ask for friends help to accommodate them from their

difficulties.

Respondent 2: “…sobra po akong nahirapan sa

pag aadjust sa new way of learning po kasi mas active po

ako noon eh pero ngayon parang nakakatamad po yung

pakiramdam.” ( … I struggle the most on adjusting myself

to the new way of learning because I’m active before

pandemic unlike now that I felt lazy.)

Respondent 4: “…sa mga schools activities po

talaga ako nahirapan kasi meron po yung mga time na

hindi kopo masyado maintindihan yung lesson tapos

pagnag browse ka naman sa internet magulo padin.” ( I

really suffered on my school activities because there is a

time that I don’t understand the lesson and the if you

browse in internet is make vague.)

Respondent 5: “nahirapan po ako sa pag intindi at

pag aadjust po kasi bago lang sakin yung ikaw magbabasa

tapos ikaw iintindi parang binigay lang sayo yung module

tapos kami na bahala sa lahat.” (I suffered in terms of

understanding and adjusting myself especially it’s new for

me that you’re the one who will read, understand the

module being send.)

Respondent 6: “… sa pag intidi po ng mg module

ko kasing mas sanay po talaga ako na may nagtuturo hindi

tulad ngayon na ibibigay na lang nila” ( in understanding

the modules because I’m used to the time that teachers

teach us unlike now that they are going to give it to us).

The internet serve as a teacher during the online classes but some of the data isn’t

reliable and give them vague ideas that what they expect and also browsing might causes

issues like plagiarism if they didn’t put their citation.

The respondent come up their struggles in different way but four out of the five

respondent says that they adapt the new life by the social media which help them to shift

their attention to the new things. They adapt the new learning as they used of website in

the internet or even talking their friends online to seek help or get rid of boredom and

stress during that period. Furthermore, they also say that they used to it already so they

overcome those difficulties.

Respondent 1: “…nasanay na lang po ako dahil

ilang buwan din naman po yung nakalipas tsaka sa tulong

na din po ng social media lalo po isa poi to sa nagging

libangan ko. “(…I’m just used to it because it almost a

month is done already and with the help of social media

especially this is one of my entertainment.)

Respondent 3: Nasanay na lang po ako kasi noong

mahirap talaga pero ng tumatagal na parang nagiging

normal na lang po sakin lahat na hindi nako nahihirapan

ganun po. (I’m used to it because before it was so hard but

when it lasted it seems like everything is normal.)

Respondent 4: “siguro po dahil nadin sa social

media kasi pampatagal kop o siyang ng stress and more on

motivational quotes din po kasi binabasa ko hehehe.” (I

though because of the social media that one of my relief

because I’m reading more motivational.

Respondent 5: “dahil po sa kdrama and online

games po nawala po yung pag aalala ko and even negative

thoughts ko and sa mga friends ko din po na laging

nandyan if kailngan ko sila” ( because of Korean drama

and online games I get rid on my negative thoughts and my

friends are always there if I needed.)

Respondent 6: “sa social media po dahil nalilibang

po ako ng mga apps at nawawala yung pagka stress ko”

(on social media because it get rid me on boredom and

stress too).

Respondent 7: “nanood nalang po ako sa youtube

ganun ng anime or di naman po kaya naglalro ng mobile

legends pag need kopo magpahinga at maka alis sa stress

ko sa activities” ( I’m just watch anime in youtube and

sometimes playing mobile legennds if I need some break

and to get off rid to stress).

Respondent 9: “pag na o overdo ko po ang sarili ko

talaga dahil sa mga Gawain na naibibigay I just listen to

music po pampakalma ko at makaiwas na din sa ratle ko”

(when I overdo myself because of different works I just

listen to my playlist to relax and calm my self and to get rid

into my ratle)

Meanwhile, the three respondent say that with the help of her friends she

overcome with her difficulties as she always approach them for help and even if the ask

her or vice versa. Friends are really reliable during this time has they will be a big help

for them to stay active in interaction even at online. The motivation gets from the friends

is one of the reason why they fight and still doing things at their best even they are in the

hardest moment.

Respondent 2: “sa tulong po ng mga kaibigan kop

o kasi sila po yung laging tumutulong sakin during my

difficulties po na nagmomotivate sakin lagi.” ( with the

help of my friends because they are always there if I need

help during my difficulties which they motivate me

always.)

Respondent 8: “my friends always on my back

during pandemic especially when I experienced anxiety

they are the one who make me calm and gradually

overcome it.

Respondent 10: “…nong times na nahihirapan

napo ako bigla bigla po silang nagchachat sakin tapos

magsesend ng mga sagot or minsan manglilibre po ng

foods parang sila po yung dahilan bakit nakakapagpatuloy

parin ako” (…when the hard time of mine they will

suddenly chat me then sending some of the answer of the

module od sometime they treat me food and because of

then I continue to my study).

The statement will be a proof that even they are not talking physically there are

still a way that they make their bonds active through online communication, they can

reach easily with their trusted friend with this advancement and ask many thing in very

efficient and effective way. The friends we trusted are the person that will know us when

we face difficulties and problem. It was thoroughly shown that keeping in touch with our

close one will give us rest and a helping hands for both emotional and physical needs.

In this, the respondent changes the way they communicate with other people and

because it was during the hike of the pandemic most of them cage their self in their house

and fade their connection with the people which is necessary for everyone to have

In terms of the way they communicate to their friends and especially someone

during the pandemic five out of five respondent state that they use social media to have

connection with them and in order to remember their strong bonds before the pandemic.

Respondent 1: “mostly po through social media na

lang po kami nag uusap dahil nga po s takot ko nab aka

mahawa sa virus pero during the pandemic hindi napo

kami masyado nag uusap kasi busy busy na kami pareho.”

(mostly we interact through social media because we are

afraid to meet each others in the reason that we get the

virus but during the pandemic we often to talk because we

are all busy.)

Respondent 2: “actually po hindi na kami masyado

nakakapag usap kasi busy na siguro sila sa activity nila

pero pag in terms naman po pag kailangan ko sila

tinatawagan naman po nila ako.” (actually, we aren’t talk

too much already because maybe they are busy on their

activity but in terms that I need them I will just call them)

nagkakamustahan which is apaka boring the po kasi

dinamin dama yung pag uusap naming. Eh takot naman

din po kami lumabas.” ( we communicate through

messenger saying hello which is boring sometimes because

we didn’t felt the excitement. We are afraid to go outside.)

Respondent 4: “syempre po sa mga online chat

apps na lang po kami tulad ng messenger na nag uusap

pero hindi napo kami tulad noon eh na laging nag uusap

kaya nagging boring din po yung time ko noong

pandemic.” (of course through online application like

messenger is the thing we use to communicate but we’re

not like before that we always talk that is pandemic is

boring.)

Respondent 5: “: tawag tawag na lang po or chat

na lang sa messenger ganun na lang po kami nag uusap.” (

just call and chat on messenger is the way we use to talk.)

Respondent 6: “gumagamit po talaga ako ng

gadgets tulad ng karamihan kasi ito po yung best way na

makipag usap at para hindi na dumami pa yung mga cases

sa lugar natin” ( I used gadgets during that time like

everyone because this is the best way to talk with others

and even to lessen the cases in our place).

Respondent 7: “Malaki kasi role ng technology for

communication kaya ako at buong tao na kilala ko sa

social media na kami nakikipag usap dahil bawal pa

makipag usap in real world”( there is a big role of

technology for today’s communication that’s why me and

the person I know is talking through their social media

because we can’t talk to each other personally).

Respondent 8: “ …sa social media na lang kami

nag uusap ng pamilya at mga kaibigan ko ng may

pandemic na and isa pa dahil nga ditto mas madai na

makipag usap tsaka iwas pa sa virus” ( … we talk through

the use of social media with my friends and family when is

was pandemic because it so easy to communicate using

them).

It entails that the technology have crucial role for our respondent as this is the

thing they use to approach people. The communication still active during the pandemic

but virtually so, this will also their reason why they can’t live without their gadgets. Now

this is way our respondent interact, there is a big impact to our respondent the urge of the

pandemic as they change a lot and they folded their self with negative thought that scare

them the most. Like the 2 respondent statements.

The five out of ten respondent are currently afraid to interact with others. This

implies that they have the thought that they might got infected in virus even we have less

cases right now. Furthermore they rely on technology to transact and communicate as it

give them efficiency and prevent them to get infected in covid.

Respondent 3: “diko pa po kaya makipag usap sa

iba kasi ano po takot parin po ako tsaka feel ko po baka

bigla akong mahawa ng virus sa pakikipag usap ko eh”

( I’m not yet ready to interact because I’m afraid that I feel

of a sudden I got infected to the person I’m talking)

Respondent 4: “sa ngayon po talaga ginagamit ko

mga social media para makipag usap sa iba dipa po ako

handing humarap sa personal kasi takot pa po ako and

must convenient sakin na sa email ko na lang ganun po.”

( as of now, I use the social media to communicate with

others I’m not yet ready to face others and must convenient

when I use my email like that.)

Respondent 6: “natatakot po ako na mahipag usap

sa mga tao kahit na sabihing may vaccine hindi parin

maiiwasan na makuha mo yung sakit, kaya iniiwasan kopo

talaga makihalubilo” (I’m scared to talk with others even

they vaccine is already here I cant get rid to get it that’s is

why I don’t want to talk to others)

mahirap magkasakit e, kung makikipag usap naman ako

toda face mask alcohol tsaka malayo talaga ako sa

kinakausap ko ( I’m afraid to talk anyone else because it

hard if I get sick and gt infected with the coronavirus and if

I can’t get rid to talk someone well I do always the health

protocol).

The fear of the respondent initiate them to avoid interacting with others physically

and through that fear they make their way to still communicate without physical

interaction. The practicality of them urge and think immediate ideas to address the

problem.

Moreover, the remaining five respondent state that they lost their self-confidence

from talking from other person as they are not used to it during the pandemic. Especially

there are not physically engage in taking to other people that might the reason that they

are shy to talk in person already.

ng hiya kasi diko alam ko paano makipag usap na sa

personan dina ako sanay lalo na baka may masabi sila

because I don’t really know how to talk personally

especially if the will have some rumors to me after.)

Respondent 7: “…nahihiya ako makipag usap sa

iba kaya naman minsan yung kapatid ko inuutusan ko

makipag usap or hindi kaya sina mama at papa” ( I’m shy

on taking to others so sometimes I let my siblings talk to

them or my parents).

Respondent 10: “…hindi ako nahihiyang humarap

sa mga tao pero ng nagkapandemic doon po nagbago kasi

mahirap po magkasakit eh lalo na experience kuna mag

quarantine apaka hirap po lalo mag isa ka lang” (…I’m

not shy of talking to others but when pandemic strike it

change, because it hard to feel sick especially I experienced

to quarantine its so hard when you are alone).

Has the participant are not engage in physical interaction their self-confidence

decrease and the shame of talking to others will be a big threat from learning as they are

not capable to express their thought and ideas expressively. Interaction is necessary as it

will be a exchanging of ideas that allow everyone to re-learn and learn from each other.

The decrease of self-confidence is a great lost for people.

Current perspectives about the social interrelationship

The researchers’ respondent to social interrelationship pertaining on the way that

they meet their needs and lack the closeness and their interdependence of personal

relationship. In this the respondent share the way they communicate with their social

relationship and almost the respondent are afraid to engage their self as it deem their

thought that they might get the covid when they socialize even though it create them

meaning in interaction.

kung ano yung magagawa ko kahit na hindi ko kausapin

nahihirapan ako kaya kinakusap ko sila kung ano pwd nila

sa school works tulungan po kami ng kaibigan ko sa

own because I’m into group work like in the school me and

my friends help each other to do the activity.)

Respondent 6: “kung hindi dahil po sakanila hindi

kop o siguro makakaya itong problema sa acivties ko and

even personal problem kopo lalo nong nagka anxiety ako,

sila po yung andoon kaya need ko lagi sila” ( if does not

because of them I cant deal with my problem on activities

and also to my personal problem especially I experience

anxiety and they are there for me).

Respondent 7: “… mahirap talaga mag isa ngayon

pandemic lalo may kanya kanya tayong problema sa buhay

at kung hindi dahil sa tulog ng ibang tayo o ng kaibigan at

kamag anak ko baka hindi ko malagpasan ang mga

iyun”( it is really hard to be alone during the

because of them with my friends and relatives maybe I

cant overcome my problem).

Respondent 8: ‘…sobrang nakatulong po ang

pakikipag usap ko sakanila sa gitna ng pandemya lalo nap

o sa mga Gawain ko and sa mental health kop o noon na

napawi unti unti.” (…it help me a lot when I talk to them

amist the pandemic especially with my works and mental

heal issue that gradually heal).

Respondent 9: “mahirap pag wala pong kaibigan

ngayon even na introvert po ako need ko parin mga

kaibigan ko na samevibes para atleast may interaction

parin po samin”

Respondent 10: “hindi kop o makakaya pag wala

mga kaibigan at relatives kop o dahil sanay po ako na

nadyan sila para kausapin at kamustahin ako minsan

tulungan” (I can’t do anything with my friends and

relatives because I’m used to be there with them and talk to

me and even help me in life).

The help of others always needed by our participants anywhere they go through

as they help them in the way the give a helping hands and even they give some

information they didn’t know upon this process they can manage the difficulties they are

encountering and also they are equip with ideas that they can use. The meaning of this is

that we consider companion as a help and transmission of ideas. They rely with their

friends and relatives has they know the difficulty of being independent in works during

the hike of pandemic and now they realize that with a friends and people to be with them

they can be done with no hassle.

Chapter 4

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

Summary

The main objective of this study is to narrate the experiences of the student during

the coronavirus pandemic. Specifically, this research aim to know their experiences, the

impact of their experiences in terms of social learning through interaction and

relationship build during the events. This study used qualitative-narrative inquiry

research approach and the sample was selected in purposive sampling methods. By

conducting interviews in person and via phone call the information needed is being

collected and transcript then data is being interpret the result. The findings of the research

study revealed that:

1. Student experience during pandemic

The students during the time of coronavirus they are bombarded with

enormous responsibility and works in schools and even in house. They are being

occupied and working hard to do all these things and works all day. However, there are

some that have some time for their leisure yet they do their activity at rush hour which

they cause them trouble.

The student trouble meeting their deadline especially they encounter

difficulty in understanding their module on their own and also because they are they with

different work that cause them stress. In this reason they can’t really submit their activity

on time that being set by the teachers. The adjustment of student also the conflict of the

student especially this is new settings for them. They overcome their difficulty through

help of a friends and the social media.

2. Social interaction during COVID

Communication was considered essential to students being away with

their friends and special someone in which they need to talk in difficult time. Connecting

with friends are things that is inevitable, the importance of constant communication is

that it will lead to build their relationship. Someone can’t stand to do all work alone. The

feeling of being alone and hard to overcome struggles can be a way that student will lost

hope during the pandemic. The battle of one’s person is hard a companion is needed to

move forward and to make things easy without the communication and interaction during

that period will deem problem. Student are seeking help for their friends if they meet a

school hardship and rely to them what things must they do. They lost self-confidence as

they are not constantly engage with interaction.

3. Current perspectives about the social interrelationship

The social relationship of the students are still present during the

pandemic as the student still really on their friends and relatives with advice and help for

their difficult times. It was entails that they still approach with them asking for help and

information they didn’t know during that period. The student are independent with other

people as they need them to help them overcome and pass all the struggle they experience

in the place of school and house.

Conclusion

1. The hardship of the student during pandemic tear them down into pieces as

they can’t have the enough time to rest. The activity assigned by teachers to the students

lead them to rattle the ideas on the module as they are not yet capable of adapting the new

learning methods and without the presence of teacher. In the other hands, parent musn’t

be consider the works of their child especially they still studying in the midst of

pandemic.

2. Communication technologies helps the student manage to communicate better

and feel closer to one another. The communication experiences of the student during

pandemic boost positive effects in social interaction as it will allow them to perform well.

Despite of the phenomenon barriers they still make communication still there.

3. Social relationship of the student is deem to be slightly different from the good

old days yet they still manifest the interaction with their relatives and friends. They

treasure the presence of having there on their side as they go through different challenges.

They can’t deal the different works without them. They approach other people when they

encounter problem and ask for a helping hands.

Recommendation

1. The difficulty of the student during the coronavirus pandemic which they

experienced share. Further, study will provide an overview and even add some concepts

on the experiences of the student during the hike of the pandemic. They will consider that

during the pandemic the difficulty of student is based on their different works indicate

that they we’re occupied. The future will help them to understand and provide data on the

experience during pandemic.

2. As communication is fundamental part of transactional with friends and relative

during the pandemic as proven in the study, further study on Student experience during

the pandemic especially in their social interaction will provide a comprehensive

understanding of the factors of healthy communication with student and their friends will

provide a background on how they keep in touch with others during the pandemic.

3. The presence of the especially people during their difficult situation. The

social relationship deem essential during the pandemic which proven in the study.

Furthermore, the experiences of interaction of the student to their friends seems to build

understanding that we need consider in the further study as we give supplementary data

regarding to their social interrelationship.
