CB SERIES SEAL

INSTALLATION
A STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE
Installation Steps
1.

Lightly lubricate both


the ASSEMBLY TOOL
and SLEEVE with heavy
oil or assembly lube

2.

Grease groove and install o-ring in gland.


lube o-ring and install stationary seal
into gland with lapped FACE UP. Do the
same with second stationary seal in the
backplate seal bore

Set open end of lubricated spud into
bore of gland.

1. Verify both faces are clean and free of


debris or oil residue.
2. Place seal pump over back of rotating
element of seal.
3. Lubricate entire rubber bellows of
seal. slide seal, face first onto spud.
4. Use finger nails to hold seal face in
place and not allow the face to drop
while sliding down spud, CAREFUL to
not touch face.

Place second seal with face up onto


Place spring and seal spacer on spud. assembly spud. Be sure face is clean
and dry, no oil residue.

BEWARE! If face falls out of element,


be sure notches line up and face seats
completely in element.

Holding the backplate horizontal,


carefully slide the spud with assembled
seal into bore taking extra care to not
drag the spud on the seal seat in the
bottom of the bore in the backplate. If
this happens, remove spud and verify no
STP is present on the seat face.

While keeping pressure on gland to


ensure seal faces do not fall out, lay
the backplate flat on the table and slide
gland down to backplate face. Make
sure oil ports are in correct location and
fasten capscrews.

Install lubricated sleeve on motor shaft


with new o-ring. Holding backplate
straight, align bore in assembly tool with
end of motor shaft.

10.

In one quick, smooth motion slide entire


backplate onto pump. Be sure the
backplate is held straight and doesn’t
drag on the sleeve. Any scratches or
scoring on the sleeve will cause leaks.

Install heater well using PIPE THREAD


SEALANT AND TEFLON TAPE on
threads. Do not over tighten heater well
or the tapered thread will cause bore to
constrict and heater probe will not insert
into well.

12.

Install heater, apply ANTI-SEIZE to threads


and probe as well to prevent sticking.
