Sri Rama followed by the citizens reached the forest. There he left the charioteer at
Sringiberapuram. Later he met his divotee Guha and by his help crossed the river Godavari. Sri Rama
travelled a long distance and finally reached Chitrakoota mount. There he on the word o the sage
Bharadwaja constructed a beautiful cottage and lived there. In Ayodhya Dasaratha unable to bear the

the word of Agastya accepted asword and aquiver with unexhausted arrows from Indra. Later all the

Rama killed Trisirasa and other fourteen thousand demons. In this way Sri Rama proved himself

The story Veeravanita keertisena is taken trom the book samskruta gadyavali written by a great
Sanskrit scholar Sri P.V Kane.
A
wealth marchent named Danapaalaka lived in the city paataliputram. He had a beautiful
daughter named Keertisena. As the days passed she became young and attained the marriageable
age.Danapaalaka performed her marriage with another marchent named Devasena. Keertisena was
lookedafterwellby Devasena, but she was troubled by the mother-in-law verymuch. Keertisena could not tell
anything to Devasena with the fear of the mother-in-law. One day Devasena decided to go to the other
lands. Then Keertisena took courage and said thus-l am frightened to your mother Manaswini who troubles
me a lot in your absence.Hearing this Devasena called the mother, convinced them both and setout to other
lands.
After Devasena's departure Keertisena was again troubled by the mother-in-law verybadly and
said thus-You make yourself beautiful and spending money on costly things every time. The neighbours are
saying that you are enjoying the luxurious life in the absernce of Devasena. Thus she every time tortured the
daughter-in-law. Keertisena was frightened and suspected a danger is going to be happen to her at anytime.
She becanme silent and waited for the arrival of her husband Devasena. One day the mother-in-law planned to
kill Keertisena. Accordingly under some pretext she sent Keertisena in to a dark room and locked and she was
feeding Keertisena with alittle amount of food daily. Unable to tolerate this Keertisena decided to escape
from the room. She searched for the things and found a crowbar, a spade in that room. She made ahple to the
walln, escaped from the room, took the dress of aman .mixed with some marchents continued her journey in
the forest.
Just then a group of thieves attacked them and have stolen all the money.Keertisena who was
separated from the group, walked all the the day and decided to spend the night under a big tree in the forest.
At midnight Keertisena saw a vampire conversing with it's children who asked for food. The Vampire assured
food to them saying that the king Vasudatta, suffering from ear pain is going to die soon. His body will afford
sufficient food for them. When the kids raised the doubts about the cure of the pain ,she said that by a proper
way the pain can be cured and the king can be made healthy.but no doctor in the kingdom knows the
procedure. So she asked the kids tofor the death of the king.
Keertisena heard their conversation and fixed the procedure of curing the ear painin her
mind. The next day she went to the king and did treatment to him, following the method as said by the
Vampire. The king became healthy, felt happy and offered half of his kingdom to Keertisena. Keertisena took a
word from the king that she would take the offer later. After that Keertisena came to know that her mother-in
law Manaswini was suffering from some ill-health.She went to help her and gave treatment. Being requested
Keertisena stayed in her house only. After some days Devasena returned to the village. Then Keertisena
appeared before him in her original form Later questioned by him she revealed everything to him that had
happened. The mother-in-law Manaswinifelt very ashamed of her behaviour , changed her attitude and then
onwards treated Keertisena affevtionately. The king Vasudatta in his old age handed over the kingdom to
Devasena and ruling it they all lived happily.
