BDAK8043 SEMINAR ACCOUNTING AND FINANCE

This course is designed to give a broad-based understanding of contemporary issues in accounting and
finance, including auditing, corporate governance, and strategic investment and financing with
emphasis on empirical research on financial reporting quality, and its capital market consequences. It
is primarily a seminar to increase understanding on some key topics on contemporary accounting and
finance practice and regulation. Students are exposed to a wide range of research paradigm in
accounting and finance, including from the positivistic, interpretive and critical perspectives. The
topics are generally drawn from areas of the role of accounting and non-accounting information in
equity and investment analysis, corporate governance reforms, and initial public offering.
Additionally, students are introduced to the application of a variety of theoretical perspectives to
accounting and finance problems related to financial reporting quality, value relevance of accounting
information, and pecking order theory.

BDHS8013 SEMINAR IN LEADERSHIP AND CHANGE MANAGEMENT


The purpose of the course is to provide a comprehensive understanding of leadership in
organizations. The course focuses on managerial leadership in which several of its aspects
will be addressed accordingly. Theories and research findings on leadership in organizations
will be selected and made as bases of discussions throughout the course.

BDMF8023 SEMINAR IN GLOBAL ECONOMY


The course discusses contemporary debates on global economic issues. The focus will be
more on understanding and evaluating both opportunities and risks arising from the rapidly
changing global economy, as well as the policy responses and strategy to overcome the issues
and challenges of the global economy rather than the technique of analysis. In this course,
students will study the global economic forces that shape production, trade flows, capital
flows, exchange rates, and other variables that create the global economic and business
landscape. The course also discusses how globalization influences the performance, strategy,
and policy of a country as well as business firms.

BDMI8023 SEMINAR IN DISSERTATION DEVELOPMENT


This course is designed to assist students in the preparation of their dissertation research
proposal. Students will submit an acceptable draft of the first three chapters of their
dissertation proposal by the end of the course. This course provides students with the
opportunity to start working on any research idea of possible interests. This course requires a
good deal of preparation and discipline on the part of the students.
BDMM8053 SEMINAR IN GLOBAL MARKETING AND INNOVATION STRATEGY
Globalization is the process by which firms operate on a global basis, organizing their
structure, capabilities resources and people in such a way as to address the world as a single
market. It is natural however that marketing practices will vary from country to country, and
culture, economic and social circumstances, and societal infrastructure are different. These
differences mean that a successful marketing approach in one country will not automatically
work in another country. Global marketing requires marketers to behave in an innovative way
that are global and local at the same time by responding to similarities and differences in
various markets. There can be no innovative marketing strategies without first creating a true
culture of innovation. This course is designed to help students learn the scope and challenge
of international marketing, the dynamic environment of international trade, the culture,
political, legal, and business systems of global markets, the global market opportunities and
finally, the ways to develop innovative global marketing strategies.

BDMP 8013 SEMINAR IN GLOBAL CORPORATE STRATEGY


This course deals with understanding the factors influencing the formulation of corporate
strategy and the type of corporate level strategy that an organization can pursue. The
detection, development, and deployment of resources across diverse businesses play a key
role in corporate strategy formulation. Limits to firm growth are recognized, specifying
boundary conditions of corporate strategy. Business portfolio techniques are applied as
necessary analytical tools to define strategic business units, to determine their corporate
development roles, to allocate resources among them, and to influence their development.
Types of strategy applicable in the life cycle of the organization is discussed throughout the
course.

BDMR8063 APPLIED BUSINESS RESEARCH


The course expose students to the fundamental processes involved in scientific research.
Research philosophy will be discussed to provide clear understanding about fundamentals of
scientific inquiry. The course also will discuss each phases of scientific research process
beginning with problem statement followed by literature review, theoretical framework,
research design, data analysis, and report writing. Students will be guided on the preparation
of high quality research proposal.
BDMR8073 QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH FOR BUSINESS
This course provides students an opportunity to learn more about a quantitative research
method which normally used for social science research. The student will learn the empirical
and analytical stage of the research process in an integrated way by examining aspects of
measurement, design and analysis. This will be followed by issues of validity and reliability
in measurement theory and practice. Finally, this course will discuss quantitative data
analysis technique, questionnaire design, instrument scaling and sampling technique. A
discussion of exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis will precede detail
discussion of parametric testing including t- test, analysis of variance, correlation, regression
and structural equation modelling.

BDMX 8023 BUSINESS CONSULTATION


This course is a compulsory component of the DBA program. In this course, students are
required to undertake a consultancy assignment in any SMEs or large firms as a case study
project. The businesses or firms will be chosen by the students themselves and the students
are responsible to negotiate the details of the case study with the firms, resources and
schedule any meetings. This case study project is an ideal opportunity and vehicle for
integrating what the students have learned during the DBA program. The students should
know how to apply these concepts and skills to a real problem solution. The students will also
gain hand-on experience of undertaking consulting in an organization and this will enhance
their academic understanding and practical skills of the consultancy process. Students will
treat consultancy works as an ideal opportunity and vehicle for integrating what they have
learned during the DBA program, and apply these concepts and skills to a real problem
solution. Students will also gain hands-on experience of undertaking consulting in SMEs or
large firms and this will enhance their academic understanding and practical skills of the
consultancy process.

BDMX8999 DISSERTATION
This course deals with both the theoretical and practical aspects of designing dissertation
research and successfully defending the design in a proposal hearing. The purpose of the
course is to assist students through the proposal and dissertation writing processes. This
course provides students with the opportunity to explore an area of interest within business
management in greater depth. The aim of the course is to enable students to undertake a self-
managed process of systematic academic enquiry within the domain of management.

BDMZ8013 BUSINESS RESEARCH WRITING


This course is formulated to expose students to practical and rhetorical strategies for
developing effective writing. This course focuses on producing well-formed, accurate and
comprehensible research reports that meet the standards and conventions of academic style.
BDRM8083 QUALITATIVE RESEARCH FOR BUSINESS
This course is designed to guide postgraduate students conducting qualitative research. In this
course students will learn about the philosophy assumptions, methods, data collection
techniques, data analysis and making sense of findings in qualitative research. The aim is to
provide a practical experience of conducting qualitative research relevant for business.
Overall, the course prepares postgraduate students with skills, techniques, and knowledge
necessary to undertake independent research using qualitative methodology.
