REPORT

Title : Analysis of waste management in

industry.
1. Abstract
In this study, management of industrial waste in industries located in Warwanti,Latur .
Materials and Methods: This is a cross-sectional study which was done by site survey)
questionnaire usage and results analysis. This questionnaire was consisted of questions about
industrial waste, quantity, quality, and management. Stratified sampling method was used..
Results: The major hazardous waste-generating industries include chemical and plastic. Private
sectors disposed 45% of generated waste. Majority of wastes were buried (62%), and only 17%
of industrial waste was recycled. Conclusion, For hazardous waste reduction in this zone and
health and economic attractions, the opportunity for reuse and recovery for these wastes must
maximize in short-term and burial of industrial waste must be minimized. Industries such as
chemical-plastic and electronics which have higher hazardous waste, in long-term, must be
replaced with other industries such as wood cellulose and paper that have lower hazardous waste
production rate.

2. Introduction
Waste management is a critical issue in many villages, as improper disposal of waste can
have severe consequences for the environment and public health. This paper presents a
comprehensive waste management system for a village, aimed at improving waste collection,
segregation, treatment, and disposal. The system includes the establishment of waste collection
points, a transportation system for waste, and a disposal site equipped with appropriate
technology for treating different types of waste. Community involvement and education
programs are also emphasized to raise awareness about the importance of proper waste
management and encourage participation in the program. The implementation of this waste
management system will ensure proper waste management practices, reduce environmental
pollution, and improve public health in the village. The waste management systems of villages in
the district latur.
Waste management system is not well organized in Latur. The system of waste collection,
transportation, recycling, burning, and land filling is being worked on. The main obstacles to
waste management in Latur are a lack of legislation and standards for waste disposal, landfill
use, lack of awareness, inappropriate technology selection, and insufficient financial support.
Mismanagement of waste has led to a growing worry and threat for the entire world. Lack of
public awareness, or more particularly, a lack of understanding inside enterprises and poor
attitudes, is one of the primary causes of inadequate waste management. When something has
served its purpose no longer, it is frequently disposed of carelessly.T herefore, proper
waste management has become an issue.
3. Methods

 To understand the current waste management system of this village.

 Provide an in-depth analysis of the impact of the waste management system.
 Provide recommendations and proposals to improve the waste management system.
 To analyze the actual detrimental impacts of mismanagement of waste generated in
the village.

i. Methods of waste disposal in the factory

Garbage accumulation has never been much of a concern in the past, but due to globalization and
industrialization, there is a need for a more efficient waste disposal method. Following are some
of the methods that are used today.

a) landfill
In this process, the waste that cannot be reused or recycled are separated out and spread as a thin
layer in low-lying areas across a city. A layer of soil is added after each layer of garbage.
However, once this process is complete, the area is declared unfit for construction of buildings
for the next 20 years. Instead, it can only be used as a playground or a park.
b) Incineration
Incineration is the process of controlled combustion of garbage to reduce it to incombustible
matter such as ash and waste gas. The exhaust gases from this process may be toxic, hence it is
treated before being released into the environment. This process reduces the volume of waste by
90 per cent and is considered as one of the most hygienic methods of waste disposal. In some
cases, the heat generated is used to produce electricity. However, some consider this process, not
quite environmentally friendly due to the generation of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide
and carbon monoxide.

c) Waste Compaction
The waste materials such as cans and plastic bottles are compacted into blocks and sent for
recycling. This process prevents the oxidation of metals and reduces airspace need, thus making
transportation and positioning easy.

d) Biogas Generation
Biodegradable waste, such as food items, animal waste or organic industrial waste from food
packaging industries are sent to bio-degradation plants. In bio-degradation plants, they are
converted to biogas by degradation with the help of bacteria, fungi, or other microbes. Here, the
organic matter serves as food for the micro-organisms. The degradation can happen aerobically
(with oxygen) or anaerobically (without oxygen). Biogas is generated as a result of this process,
which is used as fuel, and the residue is used as manure.

e) Composting
All organic materials decompose with time. Food scraps, yard waste, etc., make up for one of the
major organic wastes we throw every day. The process of composting starts with these organic
wastes being buried under layers of soil and then, are left to decay under the action of
microorganisms such as bacteria and fungi.
This results in the formation of nutrient-rich manure. Also, this process ensures that the nutrients
are replenished in the soil. Besides enriching the soil, composting also increases the water
retention capacity. In agriculture, it is the best alternative to chemical fertilizers.
ii. Study area profile
According to Census 2011 information the location code or village code of Warwanti village is
560162. Warwanti village is located in Latur tehsil of Latur district in Maharashtra, India. It is
situated 6km away from sub-district headquarter Latur (tehsildar office) and 6km away from
district headquarter Latur . The average waste generated per person per day in Latur is 184
Gram. Latur produces 85775 tonnes of MSW (Municipal Solid Waste) per annum. Latur faces
the problem of managing solid waste like any other city of Bharat. The garbage waste of latur is
collected at the side of warwanti and then it is disposed or recycled by factory located there.

iii. Density, Population and the Waste Generated in Latur City

The population density of Latur is 343 people per square kilometer (2011 Census). In context to
the waste generation, it is important to know the density of any city because there is a direct link
between the population density and the waste generated per day. The density of population is the
ratio between the numbers of people to the size of land. It is usually measured in persons per
sq.km. For example, the area of Latur Region is 7157 sq km and the population is 382,940
persons (2011 Census). The density of population is calculated by dividing 382,940 (Latur
popuation) by 7157 sq km.

According to an estimate, it is found that household size is directly proportional to waste

generation. As the household size increases, the waste generation will also increase. In other
words, bigger the household size Latur city, the more waste will be generated in Latur.
The city Latur is witnessing rapid place of increase in population, economic growth, urbanization
and industrialization. All of this is leading to solid waste generation at an accelerated rate in
Latur. The waste generated in Latur region includes all kinds of waste such as biodegradable,
non-biodegradable, construction, metal, plastic and other kinds of waste.

1. Why Waste Management is Important?

 Its Protects the environment.
 Recycling helps you to get money.
 Reduces all types of waste..
 Saves the earth and conserves energy.

2. How does factory waste affect the environment on village?

Factory waste that’s hazardous, contains toxic waste or chemicals, can pollute soil and water if
thrown into landfill or disposed of improperly. This can leach from landfill and pollute nearby
water sources, harming any animals and humans that use it. Chemical and toxic materials can
also destroy soil fertility and contaminate crops. It’s essential that your factory arranges
appropriate hazardous waste collection to protect the environment.

 Human health impact.

 Adverse effects on animals.
 Waterbody contamination.
 Pollution of the Land.
