YH Art Studio Curriculum

There are two main types of art portfolios:


• Process Portfolio:
o Also known as work or storage portfolio, it contains material related to student achievement.
o Instructor decides what will be included in the process portfolio but it is usually maintained by the student.
• Evaluating Portfolio:
o The process of analyzing, reflecting upon, and summarizing assessment information and making judgements or decisions based upon the information gathered.

Primary (Level 1) Recommended: one class/week


Apply one or more of the elements and principles of design in creating artwork based on the creativity and imagination. Explore a range of art materials, techniques, and vocabulary to develop skills.

• Learn the elements of design (colour, shape, line, texture, space, value, and form) in the visual art. Art Works:
• Learn the principles of design (pattern/repetition, variety, contrast, emphasis, rhythm/movement, Story Drawing
balance, and unity) in the visual art
• Create artwork based on the creativity and imagination
• Explore a range of art materials, techniques, and vocabulary to develop art making skills

Elementary (Level 2) Recommended: one - two classes/week


Students will be expected to explore, challenge, develop, and express ideas, using the skills, language, techniques, and processes of the arts.

• Create artwork that integrates themes.
Art Works:
• Use a variety of art media and image development techniques to convey meaning.
Sketch: Plaster Geometrical Model
• Apply art skills and techniques to create art for a variety of audiences and purposes.
Painting: Landscape
• Invent unique visual symbols to create personal meaning in their art.
Design: Pattern Design

Intermediate (Level 3) Recommended: one - two classes/week

Students actively engage in artistic understandings of, and expression within, traditional and contemporary art forms through creation, contextualization and reflection. Learning and innovation skills
enhance a person’s ability to learn, create new ideas, problem solve, and collaborate.

Advanced (Level 4) Recommended: two classes/week


Students will build upon prior experiences with the elements and principles of design to develop foundational and media specific skills and techniques as they create art using a range of media within
the disciplines of drawing, painting, design and sculpture.

• Analyse and create art objects where emotions, feelings, and experiences are Sculpture: 3D Clay Model

• Recognize that the principles of design can be used to show relationships in an Design: Perspective Design

• Assess the degree of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to carry out a project.
• Learn human form, practice anatomy drawing, gesture drawing.
