Course Description: In this advanced level set of courses, students will utilize the information
gained in Sculpture 1 & 2 to expand their creative exploration using the tools,
techniques, and concepts in three-dimensional art. Students will investigate
artists working in three dimensions to provide an understanding of art
history, inspiration, and an understanding of how artists contribute to culture
and society. Work is focused on the students’ vision utilizing ​originality and
creative problem solving to develop their portfolio of work​ and an
emphasis on producing advanced sculptural and craft design art works using
a variety of media. Instruction will allow students to further develop their
artistic voice in three-dimensional media, while exploring techniques that are
of individual interest. Student driven media selections may include the
following: books arts, clay, metal, plaster, fibers, found object, papier-mâché,
stone, and installation.​ ​Through critique and discussion students will
continue use of communication skills and an understanding of Art as a visual
language.

Prerequisite/Program: Sculpture 1 & 2

Graduation Standards: Art Fundamentals AND Sculpture ​or​ Art 2 are needed to meet the Fine Arts
graduation requirement for Art

Instructional Methods

Methods: Advanced Sculpture is a hands-on project based class that challenges


students to meet their individual level of excellence using creative problem
solving strategies. Topics will be introduced (​lecture)​ , discussed (​class
participation​), practiced (​project creation​), critiqued (​class discussion)​ , and
electronic discussion (​email & Google Classroom discussion)​ to a high level
of craftsmanship. Once students have created a quality finished product, they
will present it to the class.

Supporting Materials
Materials: Course Handouts, Google Classroom, Sketchbook, Folder, Pencil

Google Classroom​ - You will be required to bring your Chromebook to class


everyday. Classroom is used to display project objectives, project
assignments, rubrics, feedback, and course handouts. We will also use it as a
platform to have class discussions about work. *Make sure you enable
notifications. Read all posts & emails. Respond promptly to emails and
reflective response prompts.
Sketchbook/Visual Journal & Folder​- Get a sturdy sketchbook as it is a
record of everything we do in class. Sketchbook/Visual Journals and Folder
will contain: project objectives, class notes, vocabulary & definitions, notes
from class discussions and presentations, sketches of ideas and work to be
created. You need to bring your sketchbook/visual journal and folder every
day to class and keep it up to date.

​Assignments Course is student driven and designed focusing on creating a portfolio of


work that speaks to their interests and voice as an artist.
