FASHION

FASHION

A style that is popular at a particular time, especially in clothes, hair, make up.

People have different attitudes to fashion.

Some are indifferent, they do not care what they wear, others are very choosy and particular about
what to wear and like to spend a lot of money on clothes. It seems that it is hobby for them and they
want to follow fashion magazines.

Besides the fashion is a language which tells a story about person who wears it.

WHY WE WEAR CLOTHES

Clothes are necessary for our living and there are many reasons why we wear clothes. Clothes
provide protection from environmental factors such as sun, rain, wind and extreme temperatures.

Besides it gives physical attraction for us because sometimes we want to impress. That’s why many
styles are worn to inspire chemistry. In addition, special factor is emotions. It means we dress up
when we are happy and down when we are upset.

WHERE WE CAN BUY CLOTHES

Today we have many options where we can buy clothes. But it depends on quality which we want.
For example, Boutiques are the most expensive shops but you can be sure that no one else will wear
the same piece. Moreover, we have also some shops such as Zara, HM or Bershka and many others.
These shops aren’t expensive but the quality is very terrible and these shops have usually same
products. And some people buy in Vietnamese shops where we can negotiate the price and we can
buy goods for low price.

Further now the most popular shopping is on the internet because people are lazier and they can buy
clothes from their homes. Nevertheless, there are still some people who shop only from designers
because they want to have original clothes. For people who want to save money there are
secondhands where we can buy used clothes for low price.

FASHION DESIGNERS

Cristian Dior – he was one of the most famous fashion designers in the whole world. He was born on
the 21th January in 1905 in France. He is famous for his first Dior fashion house, with his collection of
the New Look.

Coco Chanel – her real name was Gabrielle Chanel. She was the main designer in fashion. She also
developed sport suit and trousers for women. Further she told that women who didn´t use perfumes
they didn’t have future.

Clemente Valentino Garavani – he is the designer from Italy. Now he is 91 years old. He has the
fashion brand which is known as Valentino.

CZECH FASHION DESIGNERS

Vanda Janda – she is a young fashion designer. She is from Slovakia but now she lives in Prague. She
is famous for pink colour because she wears mainly this colour. Her fashion designs we can see on
the fashion week in Prague.
Blanka Matragi – she is the fashion designer and painter.

FASHION WEEK

It is a fashion performance where we can see new collections and here designers show their gems. It
is the biggest fashion show. And it is also an advertisement for brands who have their models and
designs at this place.

Visitors can see the best models in the whole world. I know for example Bella and Gigi Hadid.

Fashion week in Prague. We have also fashion week each year and it is in September. There we can
see gems from the most famous Czech and Slovakia designers.

Nevertheless, world centre of fashion isn’t Prague but it is Paris, Milan, New York and London. The
fashion was born in these cities.

WHAT CONCERNS FASHION

Fashion isn’t just about clothes, but it concerns also hair styles, make-up or accessories such as
shoes, handbags, gloves, belts, hats, scarfs or jewellery and glasses.

SEASON CLOTHES

The way we dress also depends on our taste, on the seasons and proper occasions.

In winter we need to wear something warm usually: suits, coats, jackets, warm jumpers, cardigans,
hoodies, hats, caps, scarves, warm trousers, gloves and boots.

In autumn and spring we can wear Light jackets, hoodies, jeans, T-shirts.

But in summer we wear light dresses, loose blouses, shorts, tops, t-shirts, skirts, sandals, mules,
slippers, plimsolls, bikini and bathing slips because the temperature is very high.

CLOTHES FOR OCCASIONS

On special occasions we like to be dressed properly too. When we go to a concert or to the theatre
we prefer to be dressed up. We wear an evening dress, which consists of a dark suit, a light shirt and
a tie or a bowtie, sometimes a dinner jacket, an evening gown, court shoes and pumps.

For sports we put on sport wear such as shorts, T-shirts, blazers, parkas, track suit and to the
mountains a waterproof jacket or anorak and sports shoes (trainers, plimsolls, heavy boots or
skishoes).

At home we like to feel comfortable, and so we prefer leisure wear – slacks, jeans and T-shirts and on
our feet slippers or mules. To school we wear something practical and plain.

The most favourite wear of teenagers include: jeans or trousers, shirts and T-shirts of different
colours, sweatshirts or pullovers and trainers. For workshop or cleaning jobs we must put on an
apron, overall or overalls.
UNIFORMS AND COSTUMES

Uniforms and costumes are special kinds of clothes which are entered. Uniforms are worn
particularly by professionals such as the police, the armed forces, health workers and in some
schools. For example, it is still a tradition in some schools in Britain to wear a school uniform. And it
usually consists of a white shirt, grey or dark trousers or skirt and dark sweater or blazer with a
school badge.

On the other hand, costumes reflect the style of a past time. They are not seen very often, only on
special occasions. In the picture on the left side we can see Scotsmen in their national costume which
consists of a kilt, knee – length woollen socks and a cap and a sporran.

STYLE

Everyone has own style and we choose what we want to wear according to our style but there are
also some factors which influence the style of clothing such as geography, climate, poverty and
wealth, mood and preferences. When travel around whole world we find out that every country is
little bit different. But this world it isn’t so different because everything is given by social media.

TRENDS

Styles, cuts, designs and lenght of clothes change very quickly because dressmaking has become big
business nowadays. The fashion changes so fast. Many people want only trend clothes, they want
everything what they see in advertisements on the internet.

MATERIALS

There is also variety of materials: traditional natural materials such as leather, suede, fur, cotton,
denim, corduroy, velvet, fennel, wool, cashmere, tweed, linen silk and lace. But now new fabrics use
fake fur, nylon, Lycra, polyester, viscose, synthetic satin and silk. However, these materials aren’t
suitable for people who have allergy.

PATTERNS

The design can be flowered, geometric, striped, checked, dotted, spotted or multi-coloured. It
depends on what is popular now. For example, a few years ago animal patterns were popular. Such
as cheetah or ribs.

FAST FASHION

It is very serious problem. Fast fashion can be defined as a cheap, trendy clothing which is made in
terrible conditions. People work about 15 hours in fabrics every day. They don’t have enough food
and water and they breathe chemicals which are used in production. Besides there also work
children. Further human laws are violated here and they have bad salary. It is big problem for our
population because fast fashion is a big business and many people don’t know that it is a problem so
they buy unexpensive clothes but by this they support it. It is common brands such as Zara, H&M,
Bershka and others.

WHAT CAN WE IMPROVE

I think we can improve some things. Such as: We can use Vinted or other platforms. We can shop in
secondhands. We should know where clothes are made. We should buy clothes from the Czech
Republic. And we should reduce our shopping.
