CHAPTER 3
IN PLANT TRAINING PROGRAM

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

On March 20, 2023, we started with an orientation in their conference room for

our OJT at Autocentral Suzuki where they informed us their policies, duties and

responsibilities. As OJT workers, we were introduced to the workers of Autocentral

SUZUKI, toured, and introduced to the different types of equipment that they have. After

which, we went to their Log Book to do attendance. During the orientation in the

conference room, they also gave each one of us an Autocentral uniform for identification

and sign that we are part of the company as OJT workers. Lastly, we, in return,

introduce ourselves to the manager and also the staff of the company for them to get to

know us initially.

NARRATIVE EXPERIENCE

On 20th of March 2023, Monday, was also the first day of our 480-hour OJT

program. Before starting, we did log book to have attendance before allowing us to go

inside the field and clean. Our first work was a light PMS. At first, we assisted an

Autocentral Suzuki Technician. Every lifter had one technician and one assigned OJT

student to assist and learn until we gradually became proficient of the work. There are

three categories in basic maintenance or what they called PMS (stands for Preventive

Maintenance Schedule): light, medium and heavy. The tasks we did for Light PMS were

as follows: change oil, cleaning the air filter, checking the parts of the engine and the

light system if there were damages, and giving recommendations to the customer.

Second, for Medium PMS, we did: change oil, change new spark plug, change new air

filter, change the AC Filter, and clean the front and rear brakes lining and if there’s a

thin brake lining recommend and replace. Lastly, for Heavy PMS was the same process
11

with the medium PMS but included changing the transmission oil in manual and

automatic, change coolant fluid, change differential oil if the unit is like a Carry and

Super Carry Suzuki. Other job was called the (GJ) General Job, it meant that a

component or parts of the unit got damaged; then recommend and replace it. And lastly,

the overhauling process but it was rare in Suzuki Company during in our OJT Hours

NARRATIVE
Daily Work Activities

FIRST WEEK (1ST)

MONDAY
In my first of On Job Training (OJT), I didn't do much in training. I was just taught
to look around and it all necessary things to consider during work time. Everyone should
focus before the work starts, the field should be clean until the end of work. Lastly, to
keep the area clean.

TUESDAY
Second week of training as a worker, I learned that I have to know more my skills
and talent. Everyone should also help what one needs, everyone should also need, just
like reaching the tools below, it is not easy to do, especially when you need it alone, you
have someone with you to make it easier your job fast. In other words, teamwork.

WEDNESDAY
On my third day, my check mechanic taught me things like loving my job and
make it as my passion. I learned a lot of things from him and got inspired to say to
myself that this is what I want to do. I don't regret it even though it's hard I can do it here
I want to learn.

THURSDAY
We didn't do much today. I just observed our mechanic check on how they do
heavy work. I just watched his job closely so that the next time around, I know what to
do, and after that we went home.

FRIDAY
This morning I helped my assigned mechanic to open a break for PMS. I am
happy because everyday I learned things I never knew before. I know this knowledge
will help me in the near future.

SECOND WEEKS (2ND)

MONDAY
18

Picture first before getting tired today, we are here in the most difficult work like
this, but we can only do it when we are together and it is easy when everyone helps
each other.

TUESDAY
I'm going to change the tire again because our customer's tire is flat now, I'm
happy with my job because here I've learned a lot of things and just take it easy on the
repairs don't rush. And after that the tire is good condition.

WEDNESDAY
It's another day with a lot to learn and to remember, even if you're tired and
without a salary, you still have to train to graduate, and after this, you have to do other
things to go home and rest because you're tired.

THURSDAY
This morning we are helping each other, in our work we can't avoid laughing
because at least to relieve our tiredness for a while, during my work here I have made
many friends who were not my friends before.

FRIDAY
and finally it's Friday, I came to work early and I was the one who did it and I just
finished what I was doing yesterday because it wasn't done yet, until they came and
cleaned the field to start what should have been done work here and until afternoon we
were busy at the shop and until we went home.

THIRD WEEKS (3RD)

MONDAY
It's Monday again and there is another customer whose car broke down and it
won't start so I fixed it, my check mechanic also taught me what to do and what not to
do.

TUESDAY
Just take a selfie in the morning and look at what others are doing until no one
tells you anything
WEDNESDAY
I helped my co-worker because my check mechanic told me to help him before
we did that he taught us, and when we knew what to do we finished.
19

THURSDAY
We are here again at work that should be together because it is heavy and I can't
do it alone, after this we will do something else because the shop is very busy.

FRIDAY
When my check mechanic ordered me to do this job again, before I did it, he
taught me the first thing to do, and then I will not forget to be clean before work and
after work.

FOURTH WEEKS (4TH)

MONDAY
A team of mechanics will typically tackle repairs together, coming up with
different solutions and determining the best path forward. Thus, during your career as a
mechanic, having strong teamwork skills will help you to collaborate with other
technicians and work together to get the job done.

TUESDAY
I woke up early and went to the shop to finish what I was doing yesterday
because I need to finish it right away because it will be picked up from the shop later, I
hurried so that the customer who didn't finish it right away wouldn't catch me.

WEDNESDAY
Another day, another fix, we all have something to do in the shop, so we haven't
been able to talk because we're busy with what we're doing and we should just focus.

THURSDAY
This morning we must help because we are replacing a huge tire today, be alert
and be careful at work because it is dangerous and you must focus.

FRIDAY
On the day of the training, we were fixing the car because the owner ordered us
to see what was wrong.

FIFTH WEEKS (5TH)

MONDAY
20

Oil changes help to reduce and remove any excess dirt that can build-up in your
engine from use. Sludge is also a common development in cars, and oil changes will
completely remove it for a more efficient running engine. Basically, oil changes
contribute to the cleanliness of your engine.

TUESDAY
Tires are an extremely important part of your vehicle's safety. Worn or old tires
can lead to a variety of problems, including Compromised road grip due to a worn down
tread. Blowouts that leave you stranded or even cause you to crash.

WEDNESDAY
New tires with sufficient tread give your car maximum traction for accelerating
and braking, as well as keeping a grip around curves on the road. However, the tread
wears down every time you drive even with proper maintenance and tire replacement is
necessary for safe driving.

THURSDAY
The easiest way to check wear on your tire is with a penny. Place a penny upside
down in between the tire tread as shown. If you can see the top of Lincoln's head, the
treads are worn and tire replacement is needed. A quick and easy way to check your
tire wear is with a tread depth gauge.

FRIDAY
On this day we are all alone and I just look and listen to what needs to be done, I
just need to learn what to do so that I don't have to rely on others, we don't do much we
just look at them what they are doing so we can do the same next time.

SIXTH WEEKS (6TH)

MONDAY
Brake pads are a component of disc brakes used in automotive and other
applications. Brake pads are composed of steel backing plates with friction material
bound to the surface that faces the disc brake rotors.

TUESDAY
21

A brake job usually involves replacing the brake linings (which means replacing
the brake pads and/or shoes), resurfacing the rotors and/or drums, adding new brake
fluid and bleeding the system as needed, and looking for other worn components.

WEDNESDAY
Over time the brakes accumulate dust and dirt that can impair the braking
performance. Cleaning your brakes once a year can not only improve the performance
of the brakes but even extend their life.

THURSDAY
This afternoon I fixed the head light of the customer's car because it was broken,
it does not light up and it is dangerous to travel, there must be a signal light in the car
and any car for safety.

FRIDAY
I was ordered to do something every day here at the shop, I fixed the car
because it was not running and it just needed to be cleaned because it was already dirty
inside, so I was careful when cleaning.

SEVEN WEEKS (7TH)

MONDAY
Many people think that washing and waxing a car is a luxury and not necessary.
In reality, maintaining your car's exterior is extremely important in preserving it. Most
cars naturally depreciate, but you can extend the life of a car and in turn preserve its
value longer if you keep it clean.

TUESDAY
I just took a picture of my co-worker, because he was ordered to clean the tools
we used earlier, because he was the only one who didn't do anything earlier.

WEDNESDAY
A good automotive technician is a driver’s best friend a great one, however, is
almost like family.

THURSDAY
22

The qualities you bring into your career can help draw a distinction between good
and great, and you’ll pick up many of them at your training here at Pence Tech.

FRIDAY
This one is key and also a given. If you’re going to land a career in the
automotive industry, you’re going to have to know your stuff.

EIGHT WEEKS (8TH)

MONDAY
Automotive issues are not determined on the surface. You’ll have to inspect the
vehicle from various angles to identify and successfully diagnose the issue.

TUESDAY
Whether you’re working on repairs, diagnostics, or maintenance, it’s imperative
you perform these tasks with close attention to detail.

WEDNESDAY
While successful automotive work keeps drivers safe on the road, the failure to
diagnose or repair something correctly might put their lives in danger, making attention
to detail a critical characteristic of a great technician.

THURSDAY
Drivers are more inclined to leave their car in the hands of someone they trust.
Being able to effectively communicate issues and what you’ll be working on is a great
way to build trust and understanding.

FRIDAY
A positive experience will also keep customers coming back for future services.
Customers truly depend on their mechanic, as living without your vehicle is tough in
today’s world.

NINE WEEKS (9TH)

MONDAY
Customers truly depend on their mechanic, as living without your vehicle is tough
in today’s world.

TUESDAY
23

Therefore, they want a mechanic that is dependable. Having a good work ethic
requires hard-work, punctuality, attentiveness, and the willingness to tackle all aspects
of the job to achieve optimal results.

WEDNESDAY
Automotive technicians, also known as mechanics, diagnose, maintain, inspect
and repair cars, trucks and other vehicles.

THURSDAY
They keep the vehicles we rely on every day up and running and are the ones we
go to when they break down.

FRIDAY
In order to become an auto technician, you will most likely need to complete a
training program, like Universal Technical Institute’s 15-week Automotive Technology
program, to learn the fundamentals of how today’s vehicles run.

TEN WEEKS (10TH)

MONDAY
In some cases, this knowledge can be gained through on the job experience, but
a trade school like UTI is designed to provide you with a focused, hands on education
that can help you jump start your career in the industry.

TUESDAY
You may even be able to complete your program in less than a year. Auto
mechanic education requirements can vary based on the employer.

WEDNESDAY
Having some kind of automotive training is essential to succeeding in this
industry. He recommends taking a high school vocational program if it’s available to
you, and then going on to complete a training program at a school like UTI.

THURSDAY
This is because it makes it easier for the employer to pick up where the student
left off with their program and send them to the next level of Ford engineering and
training.
FRIDAY
24

Having an in-depth knowledge of the automotive industry in addition to soft skills

such as communication and problem solving can separate a good technician from a
great one.

ELEVEN WEEKS (11TH)

MONDAY
Demonstrating how you possess the basic mechanic skills in the interview
process can set you apart from other applicants and really spark the interest of an
employer.

TUESDAY
First and foremost, automotive technicians must be able to adapt. This industry is
constantly changing, and it’s important for technicians to evolve right alongside it.

WEDNESDAY
While it can be easy to get stuck in your ways, the best technicians are flexible
and ready to take on any new challenge that comes their way.

THURSDAY
We have a program that continues to constantly change. Because of that, our
technicians have to be people who can learn something new and adapt in a quick
manner.

FRIDAY
Most technicians will tell you that they are never bored in their day-to-day work.
This is a fast-paced career, and no two days on the job are alike.

TWELVE WEEKS (12TH)

MONDAY
Whether you’re meeting with a customer, working on a repair or diagnosing a
vehicle, you will have to adapt to your surroundings and be willing to wear multiple hats
at times.

TUESDAY
25

When a customer brings in their car for a repair, they are often stressed and
overwhelmed. A great technician acknowledges this and is able to find the source of the
problem quickly and efficiently.

WEDNESDAY
Once they’ve diagnosed the vehicle, they use their mechanical and electrical
skills to complete the repair and get the vehicle back up and running.

THURSDAY
Auto technicians are knowledgeable about the wide variety of issues that can
occur in vehicles and how to solve them.

FRIDAY
Whether it’s a problem with the brakes, electrical system or ignition, they are able
to determine the issue, execute the repair and communicate with the customer
throughout the process.

THIRTEENTH WEEKS (13TH)

MONDAY
Being able to communicate effectively with others will be key to your success as
an automotive technician.

TUESDAY
While much of your time on the job will be spent working on vehicles, you will
also interact with your customers on a daily basis.

WEDNESDAY
Your customers will rely on you to keep them in the loop throughout the repair
process, and in many cases, you will have to re-train the customer on how to use new
technology in the car properly.

THURSDAY
Having people skills, a good personality, a professional appearance and being
respectful really go a long way in the industry right now.

FRIDAY
26

Being a technician in today’s world is about so much more than identifying

problems and replacing parts you must also be able to communicate with all different
kinds of people in order to meet the needs of your customers.

FOURTEEN WEEKS (14TH)

MONDAY
Along with having people skills, great technicians understand the importance of
showing professionalism.

TUESDAY
Your customers will see you as the face of the dealership or repair shop, so it’s
important to put your best foot forward.

WEDNESDAY
This means dressing in the appropriate attire, being respectful, showing integrity
and embodying your company’s values.

THURSDAY
Applicants who come to their interview in nice clothes, bring their printed resume
and are able to communicate with him are much more likely to get the job than
someone who isn’t professional.

FRIDAY
No matter how great of a technician they are. By taking these steps, you can
become more valuable to employers.

FIFTEENTH WEEKS (15TH)

MONDAY
As with any career, problems will inevitably arise in your day-to-day work as a
technician. This requires the ability to problem solve and think on your feet.

TUESDAY
Whether a repair is taking longer than expected or a customer is unhappy with
their vehicle, it’s the job of a technician to come up with a solution that is best for the
customer and the company.

WEDNESDAY
27

Changes in technology have transformed the automotive industry. Today’s

technicians do so much more than turn wrenches they work on complex vehicles using
high tech diagnostic equipment.

THURSDAY
Showing that you’re eager to learn and are willing to take advantage of any
additional training opportunities will benefit both the employer and your personal career
development. Because of this shift in technology, technicians who are trained to work
with the latest tools and equipment are in high demand.

FRIDAY
Employers look for technicians who are tech-savvy and motivated to stay up-to-
date with the industry as it evolves.
