Description
The objective of the course is to propose to our customers an Airbus view on how to design procedures for specific
operations (EOSID, Route study and ETOPS). Organized as a workshop, this course will mix stand-up lectures and practical
examples using performance software, topographic and navigation maps.
Route study
• To highlight the problem caused by a depressurization or an engine failure while overflying a mountainous area
• To present the different oxygen systems and their constraints
• To review the regulatory background and to present the Airbus analysis methods
• To review the use of the necessary performance software to conduct such studies
• To practice through several operational guided examples, using topographic maps, navigation maps and performance
software
ETOPS
• To lay the stress on regulatory background and initial route study (EASA/FAA)
• To highlight the problem of adequate airports, weather minima, icing contingencies
• To detail fuel calculation methods and dispatch conditions
Note: Even if workshops essentially cover 2 engines aircraft, lectures also address 4 engines specificities.
Aircraft applicability
Pre-requisites

Description
The objectives of the dispatcher transition course are to provide to the airline’s dispatchers all the necessary performance
information that they could need in their daily work to ensure the safety of the airline’s operations.
This course aims at bringing to dispatchers the knowledge of the aircraft systems and limitations, the knowledge of the
operational documentation, and the knowledge of the performance calculation techniques. This course also proposes
specific training course for airlines operating in ETOPS conditions. This course is not an ab-initio course but a “transition to
Airbus” course.
ETOPS
This module gives an overview of the additional knowledge required to operate an aircraft in extended range conditions.
After an introduction on the ETOPS concept, the course describes the various aspects of ETOPS such as: Aircraft type
certification, operational approval, initial route study, weather minimal and airport suitability, dispatcher workload, flight
planning and execution, computerized system recommendations.

This course aims at providing the necessary knowledge to conduct an efficient Flight Data Analysis (FDA) within a safety
department to the following personnel:
• “FDA team leaders”
• Flight Safety Officers
• Pilots who will be assigned as “Flight Operations Interpreters”
• Flight ops engineers who will be assigned as “Technical interpreters”
• IT personnel who will be in charge of assisting the FDA Team Leader
• Any person within the safety department who wants to understand what the FDA constraints are and how to achieve its
objectives.
Theoretical modules will be delivered during the first day of training to cover:
• The Safety Management System (SMS) and FDA concepts (e.g. hazard identification, risk assessment, risk mitigation)
• The recorders architectures and the conversion of the recorded data into readable information within an FDA software.
AirFASE software and a training database are used during the two last days to:
• Provide the trainees with techniques in order to investigate a database (from a single occurrence or from statistics)
• Explain how these techniques should help at conducting an FDA process integrated within the operator’s SMS.
Notes:
• This course could be mixed together with the Operator SMS course (ref.: XG14) upon request (total 5 days)
• For Authorities, Auditors and Operational managers who want to follow a FDA Safety Analyst awareness, a single day
training could be proposed upon request
• New AirFASE customers should attend the AirFASE User Course (ref XG40A1) course first. Then FDA Safety Analyst course

Description
This course aims at providing the necessary knowledge and skills to pilots who will have to conduct flight observation
following the principles of the Threat & Error Management (TEM). Such observation, also known as “Line Observation
Monitoring”, is not a line check and should be de-correlated with TRI/TRE activities. This course is designed for experienced
pilots (captains or first officers) but usually without any management responsibilities in order to avoid conflicts of interest
between the reports that should be issued and their management position.
• The first day of training is dedicated to theoretical modules covering the following topics: TEM concept and TEM within
the Safety Management System (SMS), TEM in flight operation, and Observation methodology (with workshops)
• The following days (2nd, 3rd or 4th) are dedicated to practice observations on actual commercial flights
• The last day is dedicated to a debriefing of the performed observations (and not a debriefing of the flight). Each trainee
will present the result of his observation and then the instructor will debrief on the methodology
Then the team of pilots trained as “observer” can train other pilots as “observer” depending on the development needs of
the “Line Observation Monitoring” activity within the Airline.
Notes:
the actual observations, the Airbus TEM instructor will act on board as observer on a cockpit jump seat. An Airline
ticket - During will have to be issued for each leg. Depending on the cockpit configuration trainees will either be on a jump
seat as an observer or on pilot seat as PM. Each Airbus TEM instructor is able to perform a maximum of 4 legs per day.
For SAMS customers, a specific TEM training has been developed covering the same main features but adapted to the tool.

Description
A Safety Management System (SMS), as mandated by FAA, EASA and ICAO regulations, provides a structured management
approach to control safety risks in operations. To achieve this, the SMS requires a robust process for risk management,
including advanced strategies for assessing risk (2nd pillar of the SMS, as per ICAO).
The concepts associated with Hazard Identification Risk Assessment (HIRA) are all simple on paper, but experience shows
that doing it in practice can be rather challenging.
Going beyond theory, this workshop will provide you with one risk assessment methodology for runway excursions which is
already in use by more and more operators.
Why focus on runway excursions? Because it is one of the major key risk areas as identified by regulators and IATA (25% of
all accidents during the last 5 years, as per IATA Safety Report 2019).
Target audience:
• Safety Managers and Risk Managers advising Accountable Managers
• Safety Analysts, Safety Specialists and Flight Data Analysts responsible for conducting risk assessments
• Civil Aviation Authority Auditors and other Safety Auditors looking for risk assessment tools
