CADMIUM OR ZINC CHROMATE ORGANIC CORROSION

ASTM F1135 MATERIALS
1999 PROTECTIVE COATINGS FOR FASTENERS

IFI NOTES:

1. ASTM F1135 is a specification developed through the procedures

of ASTM. F1135 is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee F-16
on Fasteners and is the direct responsibility of its Subcommittee
F16.03 on Metal Coatings on Threaded Fasteners.

2. F1135 covers basic performance requirements for electrolytic or

mechanical coating of cadmium or zinc followed by a chromate
and baked organic coating for ferrous and nonferrous fasteners.
This abstract omits a listing of the referenced documents and re-
jection and rehearing. For the omitted information, refer to the com-
plete F1135. The paragraph numbers throughout this abstract are
those of ASTM F1135-1999.

3. ASTM F1135-1999 ;s abstracted with permission from the Annual

Book of ASTM Standards, copyright American Society for Testing
and Materials, 100 Barr Harbor Drive, West Conshohocken, PA

by a chromate and baked organic coating for
ferrous and nonferrous fasteners. 4.1.2 Grade required (see 3.1 ) and calor code
(see 5.4).
1.2 There are eight grades available under
this standard; four for zinc and four for cadmium. 4.1.3 Any conditions or additions agreed upon
by the purchaser and the supplier.
1.3 This standard is intended primarily for
fasteners such as nuts, bolts, and screws that 5. Requirements
require corrosion protection.
5.1 Parts supplied to this specification shall
2. Referenced Documents have a chromate coating plus an organic coat-
ing applied to maintain adequate salt spray pro-
(Refer to the complete specification, see tection. The coatings shall not chip, leach color,
page N-38.) or suffer color loss.
3. Classification 5.2 Substrate shall be either ferrous or non-
ferrous metal fasteners.
3.1 These coatings are classified into eight
grades accordi ng to the requirements shown in 5.3 The finish shall be a cured organic coat-
