Quarter Three Time Frame: 1 session

Content Standard The learners demonstrate an understanding of Waves as carriers of

energy.

Learning Competencies d. Infer that waves carry energy (S7FE-IIIc-4)

e. Differentiate transverse from longitudinal waves, and mechanical
from electromagnetic waves.

I. Learning Objective 6. Define waves. (K)

III. Learning Tasks

 Preliminary Activities
 Opening Prayer
 Greetings
 Checking of Attendance and Classroom Cleanliness

A. Engage (Day 1) Pictures involving waves in real life situations are shown to the
students.

Picture 1
Picture 2

Picture 3

Guide Questions:
1. What are the similarities that you can spot or see in these
pictures?
2. How about the differences?

 The teacher will present the lesson for today.

 The teacher will begin the lesson by letting the students read the
objectives needed to be learned for this lesson.

B. Explore Today, you will perform Activity on Let’s Make Waves! Using the
different forms of medium, you will observe the different types of
waves and how they are propagated. Differentiate transverse,
longitudinal and surface waves.
Each group will write their outputs in the manila paper for the
presentation.
The group will be given 10 minutes to do their assigned task.
Before you will perform the activity, let us first define the different
terms that you may encounter as we go on with the discussion in this
lesson.
Students will define the following terms using their cellphones
namely: 1. Waves 2. Parallel 3. Perpendicular 4. Transverse
5. Longitudinal

C. Explain (Day 2) Presentation of group output.

Guide Questions:
1. Base from the activity, how would you define a wave?
2. What are the types of waves present in the activity?
3. What is the difference between transverse, longitudinal and
surface waves?
4. Is energy present in all the types of waves?
5. How do you know that energy is present?
6. Base from the activity, cite an example.

Pictures used from the engage will be presented with the following
D. Elaborate questions:
1. Can you identify the types of waves present in each of the
pictures?
2. In your own words how would you differentiate between
transverse waves and longitudinal waves?
3. What are the possible movements that each group will show or
do regarding the types of waves?
4. Show the different types of waves using your body parts.

IV. Evaluate Directions: Write TRUE if the statement is correct and FALSE if the
statement is wrong. Write your answers on your paper.

1. A wave is a disturbance of a medium that carries energy.

2. Surface waves are waves that occur when particles of the
medium are perpendicular to the wave motion.
3. Transverse waves are waves that occur when the particles of the
medium are parallel to the motion of the wave.
4. When the particles of the waves move away from the source or
from left to right it is called longitudinal waves.
5. Slinky is used to make a transverse wave.
6. Rope is used to make a longitudinal wave.
7. Basin with water is used to make a surface wave.
8. Waves are carrier of energy.
9. Light is an example of transverse waves.
10. Sound is an example of longitudinal wave.

V. Assignment Answer the following questions:

1. Differentiate mechanical from electromagnetic waves.
2. Give an example of mechanical and electromagnetic waves.
3. Give the characteristics of waves.
