What’s In

Teacher Anne has just finished checking the test papers of her pupils in Mathematics.
The scores of the pupils are as follows:

Daniel - 47 Bernard - 24
Joseph - 40 Jea - 35
John - 28 Aaron - 45
Kaye - 26 Kendra - 38
Davey - 33 Marianne - 40
Christy - 44 Max – 39

1. Can you tell easily which are the lowest and highest scores?
2. If so, how did you do it?

What I Need to Know

In this lesson, you will learn to organize data in tabular form and present them in a
line graph.

What’s New

Create a table out of the given data below.

It’s time for releasing of school cards. Ryan’s Mathematics grades for the four
grading periods are as follows:

1st Quarter- 90, 2nd Quarter- 89, 3rd Quarter- 92, 4th Quarter- 93

1
Read and Comprehend!

 Line Graphs make it very easy to track changes in the given data over a period of
time.
 To draw a line graph, simply show the quantities to be displayed as points on the
graph, and then join the points together by using lines.

What Is It

1. What is a line graph?

2. How to draw a line graph?

What’s More

Study the data. Organize them in table form. Decide what interval to use, then make a
line graph. Write the table and draw the graph on a separate sheet of paper.

These are the eggs sold by Maria in one week:

March 3 – 40 dozens; March 4 – 50 dozens; March 5 – 60 dozens; March 6 – 45 dozens;

March 7 – 30 dozens; March 8 – 45 dozens; and March 9 – 50 dozens.

Guide Questions

1. What is data?
2. How do we organize data?

Read and Comprehend!

 Line Graphs are used to show data that changes over a period of time.
 This graph is created by connecting a series of data points together with line
segments.
 Title: The title tells us what is being represented.
 X- axis/ Horizontal Axis: It shows the different time periods or the names of
things being compared.
 Y- axis/ Vertical Axis: It has numbers for whatever is being measured.
