PREFACE

This Mini Project ““CLOTHES WASHING GLOVES”” is the idea that I

came up with to solve the ever-increasing demand of ‘SERVICES’ at
home for busy public who work hard at work and have no time waste, so
they need immediate service. My idea will solve the need of mechanic /
plumbers for people who find it difficult to get a good mechanic or
service for their home. They want services that fits the requirement to do
some work and make them go through busy life by releasing them from
house responsibilities of repairing.

This idea is a life changer as it not only allows our public new job
opportunities via online but atthe same time also helps customers to look for
online mechanic and repairing services according to their need.

INTRODUCTION -

In 1894 William Stewart Halsted, the first chief of surgery at johns Hopkins
hospital, invented rubber gloves for his wife as he noticed her hands were
affected on the daily surgeries she had performed and in order to prevent
medical staff from developing dermatitis from surgical chemicals. After some
time several types of gloves started coming, so I did notice that gloves should
also be gloves to wash clothes. A clothes washing gloves is a glove made out
of natural rubber or synthetic rubber. Clothes washing gloves for housekeeping
and washing clothes can protect your hands and nails from chemical powder
and dirt. But what should you be doing to ensure your rubber gloves are kept
in good condition for as long as possible? While they are relatively cheap to
replace, it’s never a good surprise to discover they have sprung a leak. Just as
bad, foul smelling gloves are a sign that mold and germs have set up shop
inside them. You do not want your hands to end up as grubby after using the
gloves as they would have been if you hadn’t.
• Hand should not come in contact with water and soaps.
• Less effort required while cleaning tough burned on food particles from
clothes.
5
• In winter season easy to clean the clothes.
• While ding the washing with scrubber, hand exposed more time with
water and soaps. User having sensitivity with water and detergent
facing problem.
• A cleaning glove has a body made of a water proof polymer material
and five finger stalls each having a trip, a front and a back side
.scrubber/sponges attached to palm and finger

areas for washing clothes, additional abrasive material on the
fingertips for cleaning small area and tough burned on food particles
from pots and dishes.
• Material lining the inner side of the gloves so as to make contact with
the surface of skin when the glove is worn.
• Protects hands from drying effects of soap and water like regular scrubber or
sponges.

7
SCOPE OF INNOVATION -

For general application increase as people are more conscious to take

precautionary safety front line protection to avoid direct contact from any
disease. The requirement of general application may have high demand in
future if public has this trend to use as washing clothes and frontline safety
barrier. Very few people in India are using the washing machines this time
chemical powder damages the hands. These clothes washing gloves will
keeping the people safe from allergy. This product will attract people more
because of the new product in the market and people will use it for safety.

8
FEASIBILITY –

1. Financial feasibility –
Cost of gloves comprise two element
(a). Cost of material-
Material cost is the cost of materials used to manufacture a product or provide
a service. Excluded from the material cost is all indirect material, such as
cleaning supplies used in the production process. Follow these steps to
determine the amount of material cost to assign to a unit of production (such
as a completed finished goods item):

• Ascertain the standard quantity of the material used to manufacture one

unit.
• Add the standard amount of scrap associated with manufacturing one unit.
• Determine the standard amount of scrap associated with setting up
9
the production run, and apportion it to the individual unit.
• If any scrap is then sold, apportion the revenue back to the individual unit.

(b). Cost of making

10
Material used to making of gloves cost approximately 25-30 rupees, for cutting
and sewing cost approximately 20-25 rupees.
It is recommended to have a customized project report with financial
assessment in hand before initiating the rubber gloves manufacturing business.
In arranging finance, it is mandatory.
Two types of costs are generally involved in rubber gloves manufacturing. One
is fixed capital and another one is working capital.

2. Operating/production

feasibility – RAW MATERIAL

The main Raw material as natural rubber has sufficient production locally and
for the chemical part all are manageable to buy from Guwahati and other part
of the country.
Clothes washing Rubber gloves production unit can be operated in two ways.
One is by preparing centrifuged latex from raw rubber and then making gloves
out of it.
Another one is using centrifuged latex as the raw material in the production of
rubber gloves. For a small scale unit, you must opt for the second option.
The required raw materials are Centrifuged latex-60% DRC, Potassium
Hydroxide, China clay, Sulphur, ZDC, Zinc Oxide, Vulkanox SP, Vegetable
oil, Dispersing agent, Formic acid, Talc, Titanium Dioxide, Stabilizer, etc. You
will need to arrange packaging consumable items also.

PROCESS FLOW DIAGRAM

In initiating clothes washing rubber gloves manufacturing unit set up you first
need to find the right location for factory operation. According to the project
report, the setup should have the required space.

11
Additionally, you must account for the major utility such as water and
electricity with priority. Proper layout planning for machinery establishment,
raw material storage, packaging unit, and finish goods storage is important.
The manufacturing process for Clothes washing Rubber Gloves involves very
few steps due to the automatic machines and the machine connects all the
forms in moving chain to dip and clean in different tanks of latex and chemicals
for continuous process till the packing of Gloves. The business plan is to
Natural rubber to cloths washing hand Gloves of different applications as per
customer demands as per the following flow diagram of the unit and with
colored design required by customer.

12
The manufacturing process consists of compounding creamed or centrifuged
latex concentrate with necessary chemicals and dipping suitable formers into
the compounded and matured latex. A thin film of rubber will be deposited on
the formers.
Additionally, repeat the operation of dipping till the formers form the
sufficient deposit of rubber. Then dry the rubber deposit at 70°C and vulcanize
it at 12°C. This is then stripped off from the former and inspected. Finally,
pack the finished products and send them for storage and dispatch.
In the time of production of rubber gloves from raw rubber the production flow
chart will be as follows:
Harvesting the Latex → Collection of the Latex → Collection Centers →
Quality Control → Pre Centrifugation → Centrifugation → Compounding →
Dipping and Coagulation → Pre- Vulcanization leaching → Vulcanization →
Stripping → Post-Vulcanization Leaching → Lubrication → Chlorination →
Final inspection → Packaging

DESCRIPTION –

Rubber gloves are used for protecting skin against physical and chemical
injuries as well as against infection by allergy, viruses and bacteria. Rubber
gloves can be made from natural rubber or from synthetic rubber such as nitrile
butadiene rubber (NBR) and chloprene rubber (CR). Rubber gloves are for
different tasks in several industries, ranging from healthcare to food processing
and services, automotive to construction and chemical industries.
Application
Natural rubber gloves
Natural rubber gloves are manufactured by a dipping technology, where
ceramic or metal formers that mimic the shape of a hand are dipped in liquid
latex, and then dried. This process has many variations, and production is done
in batches or continuously. The manufacturing process starts with cleaning the
formers to remove any residual particle or dirt that could cause defects in the
final glove product, and to ensure latex adhesion to the formers during latex
dipping. In cleaning, the formers are sunk in acid and alkali baths and are
brushed mechanically for thorough cleaning. After that, the formers are rinsed
with clean water. Next, the formers are dipped in a coagulation tank containing
a solution of calcium nitrate or calcium carbonate. The coagulant is applied to
enhance polymer flocculation and to ensure the latex is distributed equally on
the surface of the formers. The Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) concentration of
the coagulation bath is maintained at its optimal level to prevent sedimentation
15
of ingredients, as it could cause weight variation or weak spots on the gloves.
After mild drying, the formers are dipped into the latex dipping tank. This tank
contains compounded mature latex that has been prepared by mixing latex with
various compounding chemicals. The concentration of latex is carefully
monitored and controlled as it has a crucial effect on the final quality, durability
and product specification. The concentration of latex for dipping should be
kept between 10 and 60
%. A leaching process follows, where the formers are dipped into hot water to
dissolve proteins, water-soluble residues and other chemicals from previous
steps. Proper leaching of the gloves improves the strength of the latex film but
not without replenishment of water to prevent build- up of extracted
chemicals. The next step is vulcanization. In this step, the material is heated at
a high temperature to allow the compounding chemicals to form a cross-
link with the polymer

16
molecules. Cross-linking gives strength and elasticity to the physical properties
of the rubber. After vulcanization, the surface of the gloves might be treated to
facilitate release from the hand former, to prevent gloves adhering to one
another, and to ensure the gloves fit smoothly. For instance, the gloves may
be dipped in a polymer coating solution for easier donning and to ensure
the inner part of the glove is smoother and not sticky. Typical polymer coatings
are aqueous dispersions of acrylic or polyurethane. The polymers are diluted
and maintained at the required concentration (up to 20 %) to ensure high
quality of the glove product. The last part of the manufacturing process is the
stripping phase where the gloves are removed from the formers. The gloves are
tested for quality and packed for delivery to the customers.

Synthetic rubber gloves

The manufacturing process for synthetic rubber gloves is similar to latex
production besides that they are manufactured from synthetic materials such
as nitrile, vinyl and synthetic polyisoprene. The main difference is that in this
process the synthetic material needs to be created first. The rubber raw material
used is commonly a copolymer, a plastic material produced by the
copolymerization of two or more different molecules or monomers. In the case
of nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR), the two monomers are butadiene and
acrylonitrile. Synthetic rubber is manufactured by emulsion polymerization or
polymer emulsification by means of mechanical shearing. Once the synthetic
materials are available, they go to the factory for production. The required
processes are relatively the same to those in latex rubber gloves manufacturing,
but the dipping line requires different operating parameters.

Instrumentation and installation

The K-Patents Process Refract meter PR-43-G is installed at different stages
of the rubber gloves line to measure the concentration of dipping baths
solutions. The refract meter provides continuous TDS concentration
measurement to ensure operation within the specifications and to guarantee
17
high-quality rubber gloves. The in-line measurement by the refract meter
eliminates the need for sampling and long laboratory tests, providing
immediate data for real-time process control. The K-Patents refract meter can
be installed directly on a pipe or tank. At the compounding latex, polymer and
coagulant preparation steps, the refract meter monitors the desired TDS
concentration is consistently used and provides important information to keep
it to the pre-determined level. The measurement is also useful for monitoring
the concentration of different baths and for adjusting it only when needed,
reducing the consumption of raw materials and minimizing operating costs. If
the factory operates from synthetic rubber made at the same facilities, the K-
Patents refract meter can also be used in the polymerization vessel. The
refractive index measurement provided by the refract meter helps to follow in
real-time the progress of the reaction and to determine the degree of
polymerization. The refract meter can be installed in-line in the bypass line of
the reactor or directly at the bottom of the vessel through

18
the steam jacket, eliminating the need for sampling and off-line testing (see
also Application Note Control of Polymerization and Nitrile Butadiene Rubber
Production process).Automatic prism wash with high pressure water is
required in this application for concentrations above 40
% by weight or when flow velocity is below 1.5 m/s. Hazardous and intrinsic
safety approvals are available also when required. The reliable in-line
measurement by the K-Patents refract meter helps rubber glove manufacturers
to improve product quality, enhance productivity and reduce production costs.

Material used for making of

gloves – Plastic polymer:-
Polymers and Plastics are encountered in everyday life and used for a
variety of purposes. A large number of everyday household items are
comprised of plastics and polymers.
Polymers are lengthy chain compounds composed of monomers. A monomer
is a molecule that can be bonded to other identical molecules. Polymers are
basically enormous molecules made with a massive amount of smaller,
identical molecules.
Plastics are semi-organic materials that come from oil or petroleum. They are
routinely labeled as polymers, as they are comprised of polymers. Plastics are
produced by condensation and addition polymerization reactions.

19
20
Scouring pad:-
scouring pads are abrasive materials, usually made of synthetic fibers or steel
wool, for scrubbing off stuck on food or grime from plates, silverware, and
glasses. They are commonly used in the food service industry to remove baked
on food and clean food processing equipment.
A scouring pad or scourer is a small pad of metal or plastic mesh used for
scouring a surface. Some scouring pads have one side made of a soft sponge-
like material and the other is the aforementioned mesh.
Using scouring pads on non-stick surfaces such as Teflon is not advisable as
they may strip away the coating. It is advisable to use protective equipment
such as rubber gloves when using scouring pads as this is known to prevent
(or at least hide) any irritation caused by use

21
22
Nylon scrubber:-
Nylon netting is a mildly abrasive material that can be used to effectively scrub
things clean without scratching. Make your own nylon net scrubbers easily and
inexpensively with just a needle and thread. Use homemade nylon scrubbers
in a wide variety of cleaning applications, including body washing in the bath
or shower and washing dishes. Nylon netting material comes on rolls, is
available in a variety of colors, and can be found at fabric stores.

23
24
Polyester sponges:-

Polyester sponges were invented as a result of the discovery of polyester in

1937 by Otto Bayer. Polyester sponge material was originally adopted by the
mop industry, which needed a cost effective, absorbent, strong, durable,
material that was resistant to harsher cleaning chemicals, oil, and grease. The
airy foam, which is similar in structure to natural sea sponges, but more
chemically resistant, was then made into utility and kitchen sponges.
Polyester sponges remain soft even when dry, are resistant to solvents and
chemicals, float, and can be sterilized by boiling. Polyester sponges are
elastic, light, economical and durable. And like sea sponges, are extremely
soft and come in a variety of shapes and sizes for different types of jobs.
The honeycomb structure of polyester sponges make them super-absorbent
ideal for professionals for masonry, drywall, wall papering, tile and grout
work, painting and general cleanup. Because of its chemical resistance,
flexibility, elasticity and utility, this sponge can be used for all types of
masonry, painting, texturing, as well as general cleaning projects. These
characteristics also make this type of sponge the obvious choice for all general
home, auto and marine applications.

As a chemical term, Polyester can be broken into poly (meaning many), and
ester, (referring to a basic organic chemical compound). A synthetic compound
derived from petroleum, water and coal, Polyester was developed in a 20th-
century laboratory. Polyester is formed from the chemical reaction of alcohol
and an acid where, two or more molecules combine into a larger molecule with
a structure that repeats throughout its length.
Ethylene, the primary ingredient used to manufacture polyester, is derived
from petroleum. In this process, ethylene is the polymer used in a
polymerization process to create the finished polyester. These long chain
molecules are extremely strong and stable.
