Lesson Plan in Science

For Grade 7 Students

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

1. Identify the metals, nonmetals, and metalloids;

2. Describe how the elements are arranged in the periodic table;

3. Use the Periodic Table of Elements to fill the missing elements on the
table.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Elements and compounds
A. Skill:

 Identify the metals, nonmetals, and metalloids;

 Describe how the elements are arranged in the periodic table;
 Use the Periodic Table of Elements to fill the missing elements on the
table.

B. References: SCI8-Q3-MODULE4

III. Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preparation

“Good morning, Class!” “Good morning, Ma’am!”

“Okay, before we begin our activity, (One student will lead the prayer)
let us pray first”

(Checking the attendance) (Student’s raise their hand and say

present as the teacher call their
name).
Please pick-up some
pieces of papers and arrange your (Students will pick up some
chairs properly.” pieces of paper)

So how was your day?

“It was great, Ma’am”
“That’s good to hear”

Remain standing for our motivational song.

1. Motivation song
(The periodic table of elements)
2. Review of the past lesson

Who can recall the lesson which was We have discussed about matter
discussed last meeting? ma’am.
(Call a student)

Is there any question or clarification about the

past lesson? “None so far”
Since you don’t have any questions, we will
now proceed to our next topic. Yes ma’am

discovered the periodic table (or Periodic
System, as he called it) while attempting to
organize the elements in February of 1869.
He is the father of the periodic table.

The periodic table is a tabular array of

the chemical elements organized by
atomic number, from the element with
the lowest atomic number, hydrogen,
to the element with the highest atomic
number, oganesson.

“What is Periodic table? Can you please

read?”

“Okay, thankyou”

The periodic table, also known as the periodic

table of the (chemical) elements, is a rows (Students will listen to the
and columns arrangement of the chemical Discussion)
elements.

The chemical elements are arranged in order

of increasing atomic number. The horizontal
rows are called periods and the vertical
columns are called groups. Elements in the
same group have similar chemical properties.
This is because they have the same number
of outer electrons and the same valency.

The elements can be classified as metals,

nonmetals, or metalloids.

Metals are good conductors of heat and

electricity, and are malleable (they can be
hammered into sheets) and ductile (they can
be drawn into wire).  Most of the metals are
solids at room temperature, with a
characteristic silvery shine (except for
mercury, which is a liquid).

Nonmetals are (usually) poor conductors of

heat and electricity, and are not malleable or The metalloids are intermediate in
ductile; many of the elemental nonmetals are their properties.  In their physical
gases at room temperature, while others are properties, they are more like the

Metals Lustrous, malleable, hard,

Nonmetals Dull in appearance, brittle
poor conductors of heat

Metalloids Have some properties of
metal but behave
chemically like a
nonmetal in certain
instances. Some are
semiconductors which
means they will insulate
and conduct electricity.

Reactive and Nonreactive 2 Metals

There are more than a hundred chemical
elements listed on the Periodic Table. Most of
these elements are metals which have also
been crucial in the development of human
civilization. It is therefore important to know
something about them.
All metals share many features, and we start
by looking at these. But they also vary greatly
in how reactive they are to combine with other
elements to form compounds.
The terms “reactive” and “nonreactive” are
referring to the type of metal from which your
pot or bowl is made. Aluminum, cast iron, and
copper are all “reactive.” Stainless steel,
ceramic, glass, and metal cookware with
enamel coating are all “nonreactive.” “None so far ma’am”

“Okay that would be the end of our

discussion”

“Do you have any questions? Any

clarification?”

Generalization

So, the periodic table of elements is a rows

and columns arrangement of the chemical
elements. You learned that the chemical
elements are arranged in order of increasing
atomic number. We identify the classification
of elements which are the metals, nonmetals
and metalloids. Also, the reactive and
nonreactive metals.
