The Supervised Industrial Training (SIT) program is an organize approach wherein students is
exposed in real life duties as on-the-job trainee in which gave us a chance to have an overview and
experienced the actual work on the fields that we are pursuing. Participating in the Supervised
Industrial Training (SIT) program for students like me has been a vital experience in my academic
journey and field skills. This program introduced me to hands on activities wherein I have a chance to
apply my gained knowledge in college to the practical application. In addition, the theories, and
concepts that I had learned in school are now enhanced because the SIT program provides a deep
understanding of the complex methodologies involved in my field. Working with real tools and
equipment has been a great experience as it has equipped me with significant skills that are crucial for
a successful career in the electrical engineering field and services. SIT also provides students like me
with a vital steppingstone towards professional competence, working with other workers and

One the job in my internship involved the assembly and installation of switches and outlets,
along with the replacement of faulty ones, within the classrooms and hallways of the Technological
University of the Philippines – Manila. The first 2 weeks of my internship is mostly focusing on
inspection and replacement of outlets and switches. This task took place in the very spaces that
students and faculty utilize daily as preparation for the incoming school year. It shows us the
important role that switches play in the functionality of electrical systems in our university. This job
seems to be easy but must be taken seriously, even the slightest error could have negative
consequences. Each component had to be handled with care to ensure the safety, long-term
Many of the switches in our university were not only old but some of them are also in a state
of disrepair which needs an urgent replacement. This emphasized the importance of comprehensive
electrical maintenance and upgrades within the university to ensure the safety and functionality of
these spaces since it will be used daily by students and faculty members. Our involvement with my

supervisor and field electricians to accommodate the evolving needs of these academic departments
and to provide students and faculty with the necessary tools for effective teaching and learning.
In relation with switches, the inspection and replacement of convenience outlets was another
part of my internship experience in electrical maintenance in our university. The inspection process of
convenience outlet requires carefulness because of potential electrical hazard that might be present in
the area. Our task is to examine each outlet for signs of wear and tear, exposed wiring, or any other
issues that could cause danger to users’ safety and its functionality. During this task, the knowledge
about electrical engineering safety is taken into consideration for understanding the importance of
thorough examinations in identifying potential hazards. When a damaged or broken outlet was
identified, the electrician will assist us for its replacement and ensuring proper connections and safety
measures were in place. Inspecting and replacing outlets and switches in a school building requires a
lot energy due to the sheer number of rooms and extensive hallways that required attention. The sense
of accomplishment and seeing improvements of the school electrical system resulting from our efforts
provided a deep sense of fulfillment and motivation to continue our task in providing an electrical

many that is why our head electrician divided us to do the job efficiently. These fixtures, used for
many years, exhibit damages, from flickering bulbs to malfunctioning wiring and broken fixtures.
Aside from inspection, diagnosing issues with these lighting systems became an essential part of our
role since other light fixtures only need repairing so thorough inspection is required in order to utilize
the availability of light fixtures. In anticipation of the upcoming weeks, which were set for both the
replacement of broken fixtures and the installation of lighting systems in new rooms, our work must
be fast and efficient in order to maximize testing process for a multitude of light fixtures. This job of
testing and inspection was crucial in ensuring that our upcoming installation projects would proceed
One essential equipment that we used for light fixture diagnosis was the test light, which
played a pivotal role in inspecting the light fixtures functionality. The test light is a handheld device
equipped with a probe in which we can use to supply energy to the light fixtures. It allowed us to
determine whether electrical current was flowing to the fixture correctly and if there were any
interruptions or faults in the wiring. By utilizing this equipment, we carefully examined the various
electrical connections, we could identify areas where repairs or adjustments were needed as well as to

Another aspect that is important in wire splicing was the proper application of electrical tape.
Before connecting the wires, I learned to assess its condition by looking for any signs of damage or
tear on the insulation. If any damage was detected, it was necessary to address it promptly to maintain
electrical safety since it can cause electrocution if it is energized. Practical hands-on experience
proved through days of working with it which equipped us skills in terms of wire splicing. I carefully
stripped the wire ends and aligned them properly. Ensuring that the stripped portions were of the
correct length and free from any scratches or worn wires was essential to avoid future damage and

The installation of wall fans was also part of our task as an intern, which always begin with a
thorough assessment of the fan's intended location. This critical step involved considering various
factors that would determine the fan's effectiveness and safety within the space. Height, positioning,
proper mounting and as well as the electrical access must be considered to ensure both optimal air
distribution. This seemed to be easy, but it was no ordinary task since it requires a high degree of
precision and attention to detail and the type of the wall must also be considered. Every type of a wall
must be partnered with the right type of screw. I managed this task with care and precision, ensuring
that the fan bracket was securely attached to the wall without any damage to it. This was important to
guarantee that it could bear the weight of the fan and absorb the vibrations when it operates.

Nevertheless, what made this installation process a bit challenging was the height factor in
certain areas. Some spaces were situated so high that it was necessary to extend the fan's wiring to
reach the desired location. This required me to draw upon my wire splicing skills, which I had learned
during the course of my internship. Extending the wall fan's wiring involved safely connecting
additional wire lengths to bridge the space between the fan's location and the power source. The
principles of wire splicing that I had acquired were instrumental in ensuring that these extensions
were executed safely and efficiently. As part of the wiring process, I also comply with the importance
of using electrical tape to insulate and protect the exposed conductors. Carefully wrapping the tape
around the connections created a protective barrier, shielding the conductors from moisture and

During my SIT program, one of the school-related problems I encountered was the lack of
time allocated for preparation of OJT. The process of identifying, securing, and engaging with a
suitable company for the training period was hard since a lot of other students from other universities
will also be required to do so. It also takes a long time for researching potential
organizations/company, passing formal applications, and scheduling of interviews. For me, the
university's scheduling for this preparatory time for SIT program was notably insufficient, leaving
students with inadequate time to thoroughly explore diverse opportunities. Extending the timeline of
SIT preparation will allow future students to explore deeply into examining potential companies for
internship. They can analyze an organization's culture, values, and work environment, ensuring that
their chosen company for their internship really aligns with their personal and professional ambitions.
This extended preparation phase is vital in helping students make informed decisions about the
companies they wish to apply to, promoting a better match between their interests and the internship.
