CHAPTER 4

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS, CONCLUSIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Peer pressure is defined as when individuals encourage or pressure you to do

something or refrain from doing something, regardless of whether you want to do it or

not. Peer pressure influence is a more subtle from of peer pressure that involves

modifying one’s conduct to fit other’s perceived expectations. In attempt to evaluate

the experience of the student of USANT Senior High School Department, the following

statement of the problems were made: 1.) What are the effects of Peer pressure to the

Academic Performance of Student?, 2.) What are the advantages or disadvantages of

Peer pressure to you as a students?, 3.) What are the ways to cope with Peer

pressure?

In order to continue the study, the following assumptions we made: 1.)

There different effects to the Academic Performance of the students cause by Peer

pressure, 2.) Peer pressure has advantages and disadvantages to the students, 3.)

There are different ways to cope with Peer pressure which can be improve based on the

findings of the research.

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS

Based on the study’s findings, the following results were

derived: that the students have peers significantly impact their academic

achievement. On the other hand, peer pressure has positive and

negative effects on students performance, depending on how they deal

with and handle the circumstance. What has occurred is that when it

comes to their academic performances, most students gave negative

0
reports on the effects of peer pressure on competent students. Although

they faced various problems, this has been fruitful. Telling the student is

on the verge of being emotionally unstable due to the negative effects of

peer pressure or vice versa as well as it may be a way to prevent any

adverse long-term effects of such, emotionally and mentally.

The researchers then gathered grade 11 students in the age

of 16-17 years old from senior high school at University of Saint

Anthony. They employed the descriptive questions that we ask to

examine the effect of peer pressure on the respondents. This purpose of

the study was to investigate effects Peer pressure on the Academic

Performance of the students. The findings revealed that ten (10) out of

ten (10) students experience being academically pressured. The findings

also shows that there ways to overcome the peer pressure by focusing

on yourself even more, admitting not just to yourself but to someone

who is pressuring you that you are exhausted to follow their high

functional standard and prioritizing what is the possible effect of peer

pressure if you continue experiencing it.

Research also showed that there are positive and negative

effects of being pressure. On the positive side it help you to study more,

lead you to a good result and exert efforts to do better. In results of

negative effects we notice that seven (7) out of ten (10) students

encounter having mental breakdown, losing focus and giving them

distraction.

CONCLUSIONS

1
Peer pressure is the influence of peers on people to follow

their peers by changing their attitudes, value or behavior to conform to

those of the influential group or individual. According to findings, there

is a positive and negative effects of Peer pressure. This means that when

students are under positive Peer pressure, their Academic Performance

improves, such as participating in academic activities, doing homework,

reading and group work. When Peer pressure is bad, academic success

suffers as a results like drinking, smoking and having more free time

leads to academic failure. The researchers discovered a good association

between the student who experienced peer pressure and peer pressure.

As a result, the student and peer pressure were find to be important to

determinants of academic success. The study findings aided our

understanding of the causal linkages between peer pressure, student

and academic accomplishment.

These findings will assist the school in gaining a deeper

undedrstanding of the topic and incorporate it into their academic

curriculum to teach students how to prevent peer pressure. All the

assumptions in this study were effectively examined empirically and

found to be validated, because they were formed based on previous

literatures. This study shows different sides of how students take their

peer pressure and how they would look at their peer surroundings them.

Overall, the study adds to our knowledge of the topic and gives an

empirical evaluation of the study model.

RECOMMENDATIONS

2
With the findings and conclusions previously stated, the

following recommendations were formulated:

1. Stay away or talk to the person who pressures you to do things that

seem wrong or dangerous. Let him/her know how it makes you feel and

tell the person to stop.

2. Pay attention on what will be the effects if you continue to follow

those kind of standard .

3. School counselors, teachers, and parents should actively participate

and recognize the possible way to prevent and educate the students to

refocus them meaningfully towards excellent academic performance; this

could help the development of the nation’s academic future.
