Setscrew Replacing the face cover

To remove:
1. Remove the setscrew and remove the face cover.

To attach:
2. Follow the above procedure in reverse.

To remove:
1. Remove the cap and setscrew (A).
Stand the machine so the handwheel side comes to
the underside of the machine.
Insert the screwdriver from the bottom hole of the
thread cutter cover.

Replacing the front cover

To remove:
1. Remove the face cover, base cover and bed cover
w (refer to pages 1 to 3).
Turn the power switch on.
q Press the built-in design key q and the first page of
the design list of Petite Designs will open.
Press the embroidery pattern #1 w to move the
carriage to the starting position, then turn the power
switch off.

2. Loosen the setscrew (A).

3. Remove the 2 setscrews (B) near the spool pin.

4. Remove the belt cover (refer to pages 4).

Adjusting the Needle Drop Position
The needle should be positioned at the center of the needle plate hole.

Adjustment
Setscrew (A)
1. Lower the needle to the lowest position by turning the
handwheel.

2. Remove the face cover (refer to page 1).

3. Loosen the 2 setscrews (A).

4. Move the needle bar supporter back or forth to adjust


the position of the needle.

5. Loosen the setscrew (B).

8. Attach the face cover.

NOTE:
Check the hook timing (refer to page 9) and clearance
between the needle and hook (refer to page 11).

Adjusting the Hook Timing
The amount of ascending travel of the needle bar from its lowest position to the position where
the tip of the rotary hook exactly meets the right side of the needle should be 3.25 to 3.55 mm.

Adjustment
1. Remove the needle plate and base plate (refer to
Needle plate page 2).

2. Remove the presser foot and the bobbin holder.


Attach a #11 blue tip needle.

3. Lower the needle bar to its lowest position by turning

4. Raise the needle bar 3.25 to 3.55 mm up from the


lowest position.

5. Loosen the setscrews on the lower shaft gear.


Turn the lower shaft gear until the tip of the rotary
hook meets the right side of the needle, while holding
the hand wheel so the needle bar does not move.

Setscrew 6. Tighten the setscrews.

7. Attach the bobbin holder, needle plate and presser


foot. Replace the needle with the #11 needle.

8. Attach the base plate and needle plate.

Adjusting the Needle Bar Height
The distance between the top of the needle eye and the upper surface of the hook race should be
1.6 to 2.0 mm when the tip of the rotary hook meets the right side of the needle in the ascending
travel from the lowest position.

Adjustment
1. Remove the face cover (refer to page 1).

2. Remove the presser foot, needle plate and bobbin
holder. Attach a #11 needle.

3. Turn the hand wheel to raise the needle bar from the
lowest position until the tip of the rotary hook meets

the right side of the needle.

4. Loosen the setscrew on the needle bar supporter.


Move the needle bar up or down to set the distance
between the top of the needle eye and the upper
surface of the rotary hook at 1.6 to 2.0 mm.

5. Tighten the setscrews. Be sure that the groove of the


needle is facing right in the front.

6. Attach the bobbin holder, needle plate and presser


foot. Replace the needle with the #11 needle.

7. Attach the face cover.

Adjusting the Clearance between Needle and Hook

The clearance between the needle and the rotary hook should be -0.10 to +0.05 mm.

Adjustment
1. Remove the base plate (refer to page 2).

holder. Replace the needle (#11) with the test pin.

3. Loosen the setscrews (A), (B) and (C) and tighten the
setscrew (C) slightly.

4. Turn the hand wheel to bring the tip of the rotary


hook behind the test pin.
Adjust the clearance between the test pin and the tip
of the rotary hook to -0.10 to +0.05 mm by moving
the rotary hook set plate up or down.

5. Tighten the setscrews (A), (B) and (C) firmly.

6. Check the backlash between the rotary hook gear


and lower shaft gear and adjust the backlash if
necessary.

7. Attach the bobbin holder, needle plate and presser


foot. Replace the test pin with the #11 needle.

Adjusting the Backlash between the Rotary Hook Gear and Lower Shaft Gear

The rotary play of the hook should be 0.8 mm or less.

Adjustment
1. Remove the bed cover (refer to page 3).

2. Remove the needle, presser foot, needle plate and


bobbin holder.

3. Loosen the setscrew.


Check the rotary play of the hook.

4. Turn the lower shaft bushing (eccentric) in the


direction “A” if the gears do not turn smoothly.

rotary play is larger than 0.8 mm.

5. Tighten the setscrew.

6. Attach the bobbin holder, needle plate, presser foot


and needle.

Adjusting the Upper Shaft Shield Position
The needle height should be at 8.2 to 9.2 mm above the needle plate surface when the “Bight”
phase changes from “L” to “H”.
To check:
1. Attach the needle #11.
Turn the power switch on while pressing the Start/
stop button to enter the factory setting mode.
Press “Phase” key.

2. Turn the handwheel toward you slowly until the


Start/stop button needle from its lowest position until “Bight” changes
from “L” to “H”.

3. The needle height should be 8.2 to 9.2 mm above


from the surface of the needle plate. If not, adjust the
upper shield position.

5. Turn the power switch on while pressing the Start/

7. Loosen the setscrew (C) of the upper shaft shield
plate. Turn the upper shaft shield until “Bight”
changes L to H.
Tighten the setscrew (C).

* The position of the upper shaft shield plate should be


in the center of the upper shaft sensor (see Fig. 1.)

Adjusting the Needle Thread Tension

The standard upper thread tension should be 59 to 67 grams-force when pulling the thread (white
polyester thread size 50) at the speed of 110 mm/sec with the tension at “3.4” (Be sure the presser
foot is lowered).

To check:
1. Lower the presser foot.

2. Turn the power switch ON while pressing the start/


stop button.
Press “Foot Sensor/Tension” key.

The tension disc will be opened with the presser foot

4. Thread white polyester thread (size 50) to the


machine.

5. Press “3.4” key.


The tension discs will be closed and the thread
tension will be set at “3.4”.

6. The upper thread tension should be 59 to 67 grams-


force when pulling the thread at the speed of
110 mm/sec.
If not, adjust the needle thread tension.

1. Lower the presser foot.

2. Turn the power switch ON while pressing the start/


stop button.
Press “Foot Sensor/Tension” key.

3. Press “Free” key.


The tension disc will be opened with the presser foot

4. Thread white polyester thread (size 50) to the


machine.

Adjusting the Tension Release Mechanism
When the presser foot is lowered, the thread tension will be closed and pull the thread.
When the thread tension will be released, the tension disc will be opened and release the
thread correctly.
Convex is NOT set at release claw 1. Remove the front cover (refer to page 5).

3. Press “Free” key.
The tension disc will be opened with the presser foot
lowered.
Lower the presser foot.
4. Turn the thread tension gear until the convex part of
tension gear is not set at the tension release claw.
5. Loosen the setscrews (A) and (B).
6. Adjust the clearance between the tension release
adjusting plate and the tension disc supporter to
0.2 mm to 0.8 mm as shown in Fig. B.

Replacing and Adjusting Needle Threader (1)

Replacing the needle threader hook


To remove:
1. Push down the threader lever as far as it will go and
hold it in place. Loosen and remove setscrew.

2. Release the threader lever slowly while holding the


threader unit to disengage it from the threader shaft.

3. Disassemble the threader unit and replace the


threader hook. Refer to the following part number

To attach:
1. Assemble the threader unit and attach them to the
threader shaft by inserting the shaft into the holes.
Be sure that the pin protrude from the hole as shown.

2. Make sure the pin is engaged in the slot.


Secure the threader unit to the threader shaft by
tightening setscrew.
Adjust the needle threader hook position as
necessary (refer to page 18).

Rotation pin stopper Setscrew (A) 1. Lower the presser foot.
Turn the handwheel toward you to adjust the needle
at its highest position.

2. Push down the threader lever and hold it just before


the threader hook enters the needle eye.

3. If the threader hook is not aligned vertically with


the needle eye, loosen the setscrew (A). Adjust the
rotation pin stopper position so that the hook enters
into the needle eye.
Tighten the setscrew (A).

4. If the threader hook is not aligned leterally with the


needle eye, loosen the setscrew (B).
Adjust the lateral position so that the hook enters into
the needle eye.
Tighten the setscrew (B).

Adjusting the Height of the Embroidery Foot

Space between the needle plate and bottom of the embroidery foot should be 1.2 mm
when the presser bar is at its lowest position.

Adjustment
1. Remove the face cover (refer to page 1).

2. Remove the needle.

4. Place the 1.2 mm spacer (block) between the presser

page 23).

To remove:

2. Disconnect all the connectors from the printed circuit


board A.

3. Remove the 3 setscrews (A) and remove the printed


circuit board A with the case.

4. Remove the 4 setscrews (B) and remove the printed


circuit board A from the case.

Replacing the Printed Circuit Board F

Front cover To remove:


1. Remove the face cover, bed cover and front cover
(refer to pages 1, 3 and 5).

2. Disconnect the connectors for printed circuit board F
from the printed circuit board A.

3. Remove the 2 setscrews and remove the printed


circuit board F.

To attach:
Printed circuit board F 4. Follow the above procedure in reverse.

NOTE:
Refer to page 20 to locate the connectors.

Touch Screen Calibration

You can calibrate the key positions of the touch screen if


you feel the touch screen key is not responding properly.
Enter the common settings.
Press the Yes key to open the calibration window.
Press the “+” sign with the touch panel stylus as the sign
appears.
When you press the last sign, the screen shows “END”
and the calibration window will close.

To adjust:
1. Remove the rear cover (refer to page 6).

2. Turn the power switch ON while pressing the Start/


Stop button to enter the factory setting mode.
Press “Foot Sensor /Tension” key.

3. Loosen the setscrew (A).


Unhook and open the front cover slightly.
Hook the section A of the front cover on the section
B of the thread tension.

4. Lower the presser foot lifter.

5. Loosen the setscrew (B).


Press the tension release claw against the flat part of
thread tension gear.
Move the thread release plate to the right so that the
Section B thread release plate touches to the thread release
Setscrew (A) Section A lever lightly.
Tighten the setscrew (B) (see Fig. A, B and C).

6. Press “Free” key.

so the “Foot U/D” should indicate “L” to “H” when
the presser foot is in the middle of the lowered and
raised position (see Fig. A).

• “Foot U/D” should indicate “L” when the presser foot


is lowered, and the release hook is engaged with

Automatic Thread Cutter Adjustment
The distance between the end of thread cutter plate slit and the edge of moving cutter
should be in the range of 0.9 to 1.3 mm.

1. Remove the front and rear cover (refer to pages 5

to the right with your finger.

3. Turn the power switch ON.


The moving cutter motor is initialized, and moving
cutter moves to its home position automatically.

4. The distance between the edge of moving cutter and


the end of thread cutter plate slit should be 0.9 to
1.3 mm.
If not, follow the procedure below.

To adjust:
1. Loosen the setscrew on the sensor plate.

plate slit and the edge of moving cutter to 0.9 to
B 1.3 mm by moving the sensor plate in the direction of
A or B.

1. Prepare the empty bobbin (diameter: 8.4 mm) and
the gauge bobbins (diameter: 12.5 mm and diameter:
18.9 mm).

2. Remove the presser foot and needle plate.

3. Turn the power switch ON while pressing the Start/


Stop button to enter the factory setting mode.

4. Insert the empty bobbin in the bobbin holder (diameter


8.4 mm).

5. Rotate the bobbin holder counterclockwise so that


the knob fits to the stopper in the hook race.

6. Press “Key” and read “Key” value.

7. Repeat the procedure 5 to 6 above few times.

Press “Empty” when the same “Key” value is
“Key” value indicated.
This value is memorized as “Empty” value.

8. Repeat the procedure 5 to 7 with the gauge bobbins


(diameter 12.5 mm and 18.9 mm).

“Empty” value When 12.5 mm gauge bobbin is inserted, press “Half”


key to memorize the value.

When 18.9 mm gauge bobbin is inserted, press “Full”


key to memorize the value.

9. Press “OK” key to register the settings.

1. Turn the power switch OFF.

2. Remove the presser foot.


Attach the embroidery hoop and the template.

3. Turn the power switch ON while pressing the Start/


Stop button to enter the factory setting mode.

4. Press “Hoop Adjust” key.

5. The hoop moves to its start position.


(Default position: X=1000 Y=1400)

6. Adjust the hoop position so that the needle drops to
the center of the template hole.

Replacing the Carriage Unit

To remove:
1. Remove the face cover, bed cover, belt cover and
Setscrew (A) front cover (refer to pages 1, 3 to 5).

2. Remove the setscrews (A), (B) and the carriage


cover.

3. Remove the setscrews (C), (D), (E) and (F).


Carriage cover Remove the cord binders as necessary.
Unplug the connectors from the printed circuit
board A.
Remove the carriage unit.

To attach:
4. Follow the above procedure in reverse.

NOTE:
Adjust the Y-carriage base (refer to page 30).

Setscrew (B) 5. Turn the power switch on to move the carriage to the
stored position, then turn the powers switch off.

X-sensor Position Adjustment
The gap between the stopper and X-shaft supporter should be 7 mm.

Adjustment
1. Remove the face cover, bed cover, belt cover and
front cover (refer to pages 1, 3 to 5).

2. Remove the printed circuit board F from the front


cover.

3. After disconnecting all of the connector, remove the


printed circuit board A from the front cover.
SM Init key
4. Reconnect the connectors to the printed circuit board
A except printed circuit board L2 and L3 connectors.

Setscrew X-sensor
5. Remove the carriage cover (refer to page 7).

6. Turn the power switch ON while pressing the start/
stop button.
Press “SM Init” key.

7. Loosen the setscrew and slide the X-sensor in


the direction of A or B to adjust the position of the
X-sensor.

8. Turn the power switch OFF and turn it ON again to


check if the gap is 7 mm.

6.8 to 7.2 mm 9. Tighten the setscrew and turn the power switch OFF.

Y-sensor Position Adjustment
The gap between the hoop attaching base and Y-shaft fixing plate should be 6.8 to 7.2 mm.

Adjustment
1. Remove the face cover, bed cover and front cover

2. Remove the printed circuit board F from the front


cover.

3. After disconnecting all of the connector, remove the


printed circuit board A from the front cover.

4. Reconnect the connectors to the printed circuit board

Adjusting the Y-carriage Base
The distance between the top of the rail and the lower edge of Y-carriage should be in the
range of 2.0 to 2.6 mm.
Adjustment
1. Remove the carriage cover (refer to page 7).

Adjust the distance between the top of the rail and
the lower edge of Y carriage to 2.0 to 2.6 mm.

3. Tighten the setscrew.

Replacing the Switching Power Supply

Setscrew (A) To remove:


1. Remove the face cover, base plate, bed cover and
rear cover (refer to pages 1, 2, 3 and 6).
2. Remove the connector from the switching power
Connector supply.
3. Remove the setscrew (A) and (B) to remove the
switching power supply.

Replacing Driving Motor

To remove:
1. Remove the face cover, base plate, bed cover, belt
cover, front cover and rear cover from the machine

(refer to pages 1 to 6).
Be sure that the DC motor connector is removed
from the printed circuit board A.

2. Remove the setscrews, and the DC motor.

To attach:
3. Pass the DC motor connector cord through the arm
hole behind the cord guide plate.
Tighten the setscrews ) temporarily.

4. Adjust the motor belt deflection to about 5 to


7 mm by pressing the middle of the motor belt with
approximately 200 grams-force of pressure.

5. Tighten the setscrews securely.

6. Plug the driving motor connector to the printed circuit


board A.

7. Attach the base plate and the rear cover, front cover,
DC motor Arm hole DC motor belt cover, bed cover, base plate and face cover
connector Cord guide plate (refer to pages 1 to 6).

NOTE:
Open the belt cover (refer to page 4) to access the
driving motor without removing the front and rear cover.
You can also access the top side of the motor belt from
the hole by pulling out the handwheel.

Replacing the DC motor without removing the front and


rear cover may require skills. If you are not confident,
remove the base and front cover to replace it.

Replacing the Gear of the X-carriage

Remove the thread cutter cover, base plate and bed


Gear set plate cover (refer to pages 1 to 3).
Setscrew Gear (C) Remove the setscrews.
Pulling down the gear set plate and the gear (A), remove
them.
Set a new gear (A) on the gear set plate.
Attach the gear set plate with the new gear (A) on the
X-carriage and temporarily tighten the setscrews.
Move the gear (B) so that the gear (B) comes in contact
with the gear (A).
Move the gear (B) in the direction of the arrow so that
the gear (B) comes in contact with the gear (C).
Tighten the setscrews firmly.
Be sure that there is no play between the gears (A) and
(B), nor between the gears (B) and (C).
Slide the Y-carriage by hand and check if Y-carriage
moves smoothly.

Attach the covers


Attach the bed cover, base plate and thread cutter cover
follow the above procedure in reverse (refer to pages
1 to 3).

Oiling the Machine (1)

Move the carriage to the home position and turn off the power switch and/or remove the plug from the machine
before oiling the machine.
• Wait until the motor cools down before oiling.
• Do not oil any parts other than as explained in this section.
• Use good quality sewing machine oil.
• One or two drops of oil is sufficient.
• Remove excess oil, otherwise it may stain fabric.

Remove the face cover (refer to page 1).
