Welcome to Third Grade

Dear Third Grade Families,

We are very excited to have your child in our classes. We are looking forward to a
wonderful year. We would like to provide you with some information about our classroom
procedures and the goals we strive to achieve. We have planned many hands-on activities
that will prove beneficial in maximizing your child’s learning potential. You will be excited to see
the progress your child will make this school year. We encourage you to take part in this
process. Every child benefits from parental involvement. There is no greater influence on a
child’s educational experience than those from home. Please stay in contact with us
throughout the year, remember you are a vital member of our team.

Thank you all so much for getting your child to school on time. Students may enter the the
building at 7:20. Your child will be eating breakfast this year in our school cafeteria. Students will
then come to their homeroom class to complete morning activities to reinforce the skills we are
learning. Students are not tardy until 8:10; however, during this time they are completing
activities that are very beneficial to their progress.

This year we will be communicating with you through their agenda biweekly newsletters.
We will have your child write down homework, tests, and any other important information in their
agenda. Your child will have some type of reading and/or math homework each day. In
addition, we would encourage you to review the story we are reading with them and practice
addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts daily. The agenda and all work, including
homework, will be kept in their binder. Binders should be carried back and forth between school
and home each day. Please check your child’s book bag, binder and agenda DAILY!

Each child will begin the day on “Green”. In the event that his or her clip is moved to
yellow, or red, a note will be written in their agenda briefly explaining the inappropriate
behavior. Please talk with your child about correcting his or her behavior, sign the agenda, and
return it to school the following day so that we can be certain you are aware of his or her
inappropriate behavior.

Your child will also receive signed papers throughout the year with graded work to keep
you updated on their progress. We will try and send home signed papers every other
week/once a month. Please review the work with your child, sign the pack of papers and send
them back to school the following day. Talk with your child about their grades and how proud
you are of them or if needed, how they should always try their best and improve their grades.
We will explain what each grade means to help them understand. We would greatly
appreciate you doing the same at home.

If your child has a transportation change, we MUST have a note with the type of
transportation change such as car or bus. Car rider notes must specify who is picking up your
child. If you can, please provide the person picking your child up with the car rider number
hanger, if it is not you. Anyone who arrives without the car rider number hanger will have to park
and walk into the main office to pick up the student. Bus rider notes must specify the bus
number AND the address of where they will be getting off the bus. Please make sure your child
knows they have a bus note. To make this easier, we have provided a clear pencil pouch in
their binder to put notes, ice cream money, etc. in so it doesn’t get lost. Also, please make sure
your child comes to school each day unless he or she is sick. We will be learning a tremendous
amount this year, and everyday counts! You may contact us by sending a note with your child,
emailing us or by calling WWPS (706-678-2633) and leaving a message. We are always glad to
communicate with parents and help in any way we can.

Your child needs to bring a water bottle to school each day. Water bottles can only be
filled with water. We will take breaks throughout the day to refill bottles at the refill station as a
class.

Again, we look forward to a year filled with many fun activities and learning experiences.
We welcome both you and your child to our classes and we are confident that we will have a
truly successful and meaningful year ahead!!!

Sincerely,
