MINUTES OF MANAGEMENT MEETING OF THE MINISTRY OF TRADE AND
INVESTMENT HELD IN THE HONORABLE COMMISSIONER’S OFFICE ON
THE 4/2/2022 The meeting started with a word of prayer by Director of Investment at 10:22 am 1. Opening remark: the honorable commissioner welcomed the management staff and introduce himself to the staff. He also Thanked the management for their show of love to him when he reported in the ministry. He equally called on the management staff to respect each other’s position in the ministry and promise to work with everybody for the development of the ministry. 2. in his response, the PS was grateful for the posting of the honorable commissioner to the Ministry and promise on behalf of the management to support him to succeed in his assignment. 3. letter from BIRS: the honorable commissioner directed the PS to react on the letter while the PS asked the Director of Trade who was the manager of modern market then. The DOT inform the meeting that the money BIRS was requesting was paid into the then Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment account. 4. Resolution: The management agreed that a letter be sent to the Ministry of Industry and Cooperative to respond why BIRS is requesting for the money which was supposed to be in the account 5. Establishment of Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC). The PS asked the DAS to respond on the matter and the DAS informed the meeting that the (FCCPC) has written a memo to the governor in 2016 to establish office in Benue State and they were given. The honorable commissioner sort to know the relation between the Ministry and FCCPC in terms of employment and it was agreed they would employ their own staff and pay them. 6. Operation of consultants/task force. Who are the consultants, what do they do? who engages them and why do we have to engage them? (a) The meeting seeks to know Who are the consultants? The DOT informed the Ministry that only one consultant exist which is bungut integrated company, which handle sacks(bags) and muddles in the Ministry as the state memo was signed by consultant alone and he also set up the task force. And only report to the Ministry when he had issues with the task force he set up. After the desolations of the executive council, the meeting was informed that after the dissolution of the executive council the PS invited the CEO of bungut integrated company Mr Mike Temar and dissolved the taskforce he had set up and terminated his consultancy and renew his consultancy also set up a task force with the police involved. Abuhumu Global resources limited: The Abuhumu is a consultant which is to generate revenue and maintain both modern market and Makurdi international market. The move of this markets was signed by planning commission. The honorable commissioner seeks to know the relationship between Abuhumu Global Resources and the Ministry which the Ministry informed him that it was not cordial. The PS was asked to do letter to consultants inviting him to a meeting with the Ministry on Tuesday the 8th February 2022 by 2pm. 6.1 Taskforce: The PS informed the meeting that a taskforce was setup in the Ministry to ensure the effective of the sacks(bags) and muddles by farmers in the state. The meeting resolved that the members of the taskforce should be drawn from their local government of origin to ensure equal representation. The taskforce members should be given orientation by the ministry and monitored by the area officers of the Ministry at the local government areas. 6.2 The management said that all local government are to be equally represented. 7. Sharing of Assets/liquidity: The PS informed the meeting that an in inhouse committee was setup up with a mandate to put both the Assets and Liabilities of Trade and Investment and Industry and Cooperative together before HOS will be invited for sharing but effort to do that have proved abortive, therefore the head of service be invited to come and help in the sharing of both Assets of the Ministries on a 50 to 50 basis. 8. Familiarization visit: The meeting advised the management to embark on a familiarization visit to oracle business, modern market, international market, BIPC, Chamber of Commerce and Industry export commission, BIRS are to be visited by the Ministry to select relationship and cooperation. 9.0 AOB: the honorable commissioner called on the management to ensure early and timely treatment of files, he also lamented on how a casual will be paid if there is no revenue from the market. On happy note, the PS Mr Abagi Stephen informed the meeting that he was one year in office as the permanent Secretary and called for prayers to enable him continue to perform optimally. In the absence of any other business the DOT appreciated the honorable commissioner, the PS and the entire management staff for their first meeting of the year. It was on this note that the Director of Investment move for the adjournment and was seconded to by the DFA, while the closing prayer was said by the DAS at 12:52noon
