INTRODUCTION

The school canteen plays a vital role among the wellness of the students. It is
known to be a place where various meals are being served or where students are
allowed to eat their foods such as packed lunch and bought lunch. Since the
students and teachers are the major customers of the school canteens, owners,
vendors and other staff must take consideration on the level of satisfaction of
their customers in terms of the overall quality service. Likewise, assessing the
level of satisfaction of students and teachers regarding the food and services of
the school canteen helps in identifying unsatisfied costumers and needed
improvements for the establishment also to improve school canteens food and
attitude towards students.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY


Every school offers different kind of foods in their canteens, since the students
are always having their vacants they always go to canteen to eat while telling
stories to each other and also the teachers and non- teaching staff for them to
take a rest for a while and do their works there. Before in School canteen offers
delicious food like donuts, ice cream, noodles, and many more but nowadays the
school canteens practice serving healthy foods than before.
Many schools nowadays are being hands on, from the foods that they are
selling to their canteens. Because according to “The 8th National Nutrition Survey-
Department of Science and Technology Food and Nutrition Research
Institute,2014 showed that for children aged 5 to 10 , 29.1% were underweight ,
29.9% were stunted (low height for their age),8.6% were wasted (low weight for
their height) and 9.1% were overweight. So Councilors aforementioned that
Department of Education no. 8 series of 2007 outlines the implementing
guidelines on the operation and management of school canteens in elementary
and high school to ensure that the school canteens are providing healthy food and
help eliminate malnutrition among students. But are these kind of foods will be
able to satisfy the students and teachers working and studying in schools ?
According to Schools, the DepEd Order No. 13 series 2017 - Policy and
Guidelines on Healthy Food and Beverages in Schools and in DepEd Offices that
aims to promote and develop healthy eating habits among students and DepEd
employees through making healthy, nutritious and affordable menu choices.
Under this DO, DepEd clarified the food that should be allowed by categorizing
these through a color-coding system.

Statement of the problem


This quantitative research aims to assess overall satisfaction of the students.
Specifically, it seeks to answer the following questions:
1) How often do the students buy their foods at the school canteens?
2) What is the level of satisfaction of the students on the school canteen in terms
of:
2.1. Food
2.2. Service Area
2.3. Attitude of the school canteen staff

Significance of the study


The result of the study will help the students what food should they eat and the
research can help the students to point out what’s on their mind or what is there
opinion about this issue. For the staff, it will help them by means of getting an
feedback or idea on what are the things that they need to improve or what are
the things that needs to be given a lot of attention. It will also help them to make
a solution to this problem. For the future researchers, this study may serve as
guide and reference to further understand the topic and for future development
of this existing study.
Scope and limitation
The study covers the level of satisfaction of the students and teachers in many
school. It aims to identify the satisfaction of the respondents regarding the food,
service area, and attitude of the school canteen staff.
The researchers limit this research only to the Student of Phinma Senior High
school, particularly, among the Students who are currently enrolled in the
academic year 2021 – 2022.
