Kevin Sanjaya

Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo was born on 2 August 1995 in Banyuwangi, East Java,
Indonesia, to parents Sugiarto Sukamuljo and Winartin Niawati of Chinese
Indonesians ethnicity. He is the youngest of two children. His brother named Nico Prasetya
Sukamuljo, is three years apart from Kevin. He is the nephew of former world number 1 men's
doubles player, Alvent Yulianto Chandra. Kevin Sanjaya started to learn about badminton at two
and a half years, by seeing his father play on the court behind their house. Noticing young Kevin
Sanjaya’s interest in badminton, his father then found a coach in Jember at the Putra 46 club to
foster his child's talent for a year. Kevin later entered the Sari Agung club in Banyuwangi and in
2006, at the age of eleven, he won a Graha Bhakti Cup tournament. Recognizing his talent,
Kevin's parents encouraged him to join a bigger club. He then took part at the general auditions
scholarship held by PB Djarum, but failed due to his small physique. However, he refused to
give up, and began training every day, instead of his usual 4 days a week routine. With these
additional hours, he finally managed to pass the audition at PB Djarum in 2007.

After joining PB Djarum, Kevin went through defeat after defeat. At first, Kevin played
in the men's singles discipline. However, he was then turned toward the doubles disciplines,
experimenting with both the men's and mixed doubles. Initially, he and his parents resisted this
turn toward specialization in doubles, but men's doubles coach Ade Lukas believed that this was
where Kevin's skills and abilities would be best utilized. After a year of training in doubles, he
showed progress and had great expectations going forward.
His achievement started when he participated in the BWF Junior World Championship,
when Kevin was paired with Masita Mahmudin only able to win silver. After that he changed
partners at the Junior Asia level and won two bronze medals.

When he joined the 2015 Sea Games team, Kevin, who was paired with Marcus Gideon
and his colleagues, succeeded in donating a gold medal. After that, from year to year his
performance grew rapidly and became a frightening specter for opponents.

Several times in tournaments such as the China Open, India Open, Australian Open, the
pair managed to become champions. And one of his best titles is winning the All England 2017
after beating the pair from China. His hat trick victory became one of his personal records.

In addition to partnering with Marcus, Kevin has also partnered with Greysia Polli in the
mixed doubles sector. Kevin is one of the players who likes to trick his opponent through his
movements, one of which is by serving a flick which often makes opponents emotional.

At the age of 22, Kevin Sanjaya and his partner Marcus have won a number of titles.
Kevin Sanjaya and his partner Marcus want to complete their championship titles at the world
championships and Olympics in the following year.
