Financial Literacy and Economics:

Technical Instruction

Introduction
Financial Literacy and Economics parts will be held in the form of an online
proctored exam. Below you will nd technical instructions that will enable you
to make your online experience of the IEO 2021 as comfortable as possible.

Online proctored exams schedule:

July 21, 12:00 UTC – July 23, 12:00 UTC – Technical Test
July 27, 12:00-14:00 UTC – Financial Literacy
July 28, 12:00-16:25 UTC – Economics

Registration
You will be sent an email containing your login and password by July 20. Use
these data to log in on the IEO Moodle platform edu.lu.lv/ieo2021. Con rm your
registration by changing the password and complete your pro le.

System Requirements
Online proctored exam delivery can be disrupted by proxy servers, network
packet inspection/ ltering, or strict network security con gurations. Some an-
tivirus software can cause performance issues. Please disable antivirus scanning
while taking your exam. You may need to ensure that your security software
does not block cookies and the execution of JavaScript.
During IEO, you will have to use cameras of two devices (a computer/lap-
top and a mobile phone). You will need your ID card to enter the session.

Sound and microphone Headsets with audio and microphone are

acceptable as sound input devices.
Built-in microphones are acceptable, as are
external microphones.
Headphones or speakers are acceptable as
sound input devices.
Note: Verify that the audio and microphone are
not set on Mute.

Additional software Some security software programs, like antivirus

or Internet security software, can disrupt exam
delivery and may need to be disabled.

Prior to your exam, complete the required system test on the same computer
and in the same location you will participate in the test from.

 Prepare for Rounds

To get acquainted with the rules of the exam, please watch the instructional
video.
Before your exam, make sure you have a steady internet connection. Also, en-
sure:

Please use a phone tripod or create a stable construction with other items that
will support your smartphone in the right position. Make sure that the battery
of your smartphone is fully charged: if possible, leave it on the charger.

Switch off all noti cations: if possible, uninstall irrelevant software such as mes-
saging applications. Restrict calls and other disturbing functions.

 To see the interface of an online proctored exam, you may pass a demo test on
proctoredu.com. Please note that the demo test provided on this website only
involves one camera use: during the IEO 2021, you will be asked to switch on the
second camera. To do so, you will have to scan the QR-code that appears on the
screen at the beginning of the exam (make sure your phone has a QR-code
reader installed; otherwise install an application).

In case you have trouble with con guration, turn to F.A.Q that contains solu-
tions to the most common problems.

During Financial Literacy Game

To start the exam, log in on edu.lu.lv/ieo2021 and open the test with the ap-
propriate name. Press it to start. You will see the tasks after you complete the
con guration of your devices suggested by the proctoring service.

For Financial Literacy Game, you will receive your personal login and password
via email: please insert this data after opening the webpage from the “Financial
Literacy Game” test on edu.lu.lv/ieo2021. You can only use the latest version of
the Google Chrome browser. It is recommended to play the Demo version of
the game before the competition.

The only webpage you are allowed to visit during Financial Literacy Game is:

You may use a printed version of the table of game coef cients. You are allowed
to use blank sheets of paper to make written notes.

Also, ensure:

 During the exam, you will be able to communicate with your proctor in the
chat in case there are technical issues. You are not allowed to ask questions re-
garding the content of the Olympiad.

You may have snacks (chocolate, fruit etc.) and water during the round – make
sure that the wrapping is off.

After you complete the test and submit your answers, you may nish your proc-
toring session on the laptop/computer: it will switch off on your mobile device
automatically.

During Economics
To start the exam, log in on edu.lu.lv/ieo2021 and open the test with the ap-
propriate name. Press “start attempt” to begin. You will see the tasks after you
complete the con guration of your devices suggested by the proctoring ser-
vice.

 You will see the tasks in the following order:

1. 20 multiple-choice questions (80 minutes)
2. 5 open questions (155 minutes)

Between the two parts, you will have a 30-minute break to cover your physical
needs. You will not be able to go back to multiple-choice questions after you
have taken your break; you will not be able to have a break while working on
questions. Make sure you have checked your answers before submitting the
solutions.

During the exam, you will be able to communicate with your proctor in the
chat in case there are technical issues. You are not allowed to ask questions re-
garding the content of the Olympiad.

 Technical issues
In case there are technical issues that prevent the participant from completing
the test (connection/electricity failure), the Jury assesses the results received be-
fore the participant left the system.
To avoid technical issues, follow the recommendations:
1) Check your equipment according to the instructions in “Minimum Re-
quirements”;
2) Complete the Technical Test and play the Demo version of the Financial
Literacy Game in order to learn the interface and the general functions
of the suggested platforms;
3) Use fully-charged devices: if possible, leave them on the charger for the
whole duration of the exam;
4) If possible, use a laptop and not a computer in order to prevent being
disconnected from the network due to electricity shortcuts and/or any
similar problems.
