EFFECTS OF CORONAVIRUS

Effects of Coronavirus
Introduction
Coronavirus disease is a contagious illness triggered by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Though

patients can recover without special treatment, some can become seriously ill and require

medical attention. The virus can spread through fine liquid droplets from the mouth or nose when

one coughs, talks, or sneezes (Kumar et al., 2020). Also, the virus can spread through physical

contact with infected persons or areas carrying the virus. It spreads widely in crowds and to those

who have been kept indoors. The outbreak of the ailment has caused a significant effect on the

lifestyle of most people economically, socially, and even in terms of their overall body health.

Health Effects

The lockdown and cessation of the movement were significant effects of the Covid-19

pandemic. Following this, many people stayed at home, and lack of socialization led to physical

and mental health decline. For instance, reduced physical activity has brought about a rise in

obesity cases in many world regions (Khan & Naushad, 2020). Many people added extra pounds

due to beige eating, thus converting excess calories into fat. In terms of mental health, covid-19

has caused draining effects mainly on core health personnel. They carried a heavy burden of

grief from the loss of patients, relatives, and peers. Many reported feelings anxiously depressed

during and after work sessions.

Social Effects

Apart from being a health crisis, Covid-19 is also a social crisis leading to masses

suffering and terminating people's lives, leaving others in grief. Populations in most regions,

including people living in poverty, the aged, persons living with disabilities, youth, and

indigenous people, have been hit by the impact of the crisis. For instance, those living in

congested areas like refugee camps cannot adhere to the social distancing measures, thus more

infections. Sites with limited or no access to clean running water stand to experience the

pandemic directly and its aftermath because of restricted movement, lack of jobs, and increasing

xenophobia (Ling et al., 2020). Following competition and scarcity of income opportunities,

there may be rising cases of discrimination, gender-based violence, inequality, and

unemployment both in the medium and long term.

Economic effects

Everybody’s and global economy, including the financial markets, have been severely

affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Significant cases of losses in businesses, income reductions,

unemployment, interference of transport sector, services and manufacturing industries are but a

few consequences of this global pandemic. Due to the urgency of the situation, funds that were

reserved for other projects have been redirected to the health sector for the sake of mitigating the

threats posed by Covid-19 (Fernandes, 2020). In addition, industries, especially those involving

the tourism sector, have been closed down due to the cessation of movement between countries.

Supply and demand aspects of businesses have also negatively fluctuated in many companies.

For example, infected persons have become less productive in supply, while social distancing

has also caused supply disruptions. Layoffs, quarantine, and lack of income have lowered the

demand for products.

Conclusion

Most governments have underrated the threat of Covid-19 spread and were mainly

reactive in their crisis response. As this crisis has caused scars and is not likely to end shortly,

proactive international actions are required to save the health of individuals and the social and

economic life. This calls for collective efforts among nations and globally investing in research

to develop and distribute vaccines. Every individual should take the Covid-19 as one step to

death issue and adhere to the hygiene measures crafted to combat the further spread of the virus.

In due time, despite it being impossible for the disease to end, people will have normalized living

with the virus as long as they practice the hygiene measures.
