v09
Every morning Pica counts his goats,
and he leads them to their pasture.

He wants to get a dog one day.

The goats are curious and like to
explore, but they always come Except Cappi.
when Pica calls.
Cappi does what she likes.
Pica is always running after her.
This morning Cappi showed Pica
something new.

“Hello,” Pica said.

“What is your name?” Pica asked the giant,
“Where did you come from? How do you see out
of that cloud?”

The giant didn’t answer.

“I know,” Pica said,
“I’ll call you Cloudhead.”
Pica’s flute isn’t only good for calling goats.
After lunch he practiced his song.
Before Cloudhead could
answer, all the goats
started yelling.

A wolf had
surprised them.

In the afternoon
the weather turned.

Pica felt the first drops of rain.

“Are you sad, Cloudhead?” he asked.
Pica was scared, too, but he loved his goats more,
so he charged the wolf and drove it away.

He really needs a dog.

They made it back just ahead
of the storm. Pica counted the
goats again.

Where’s Cappi?

Pica didn’t know why Cloudhead was upset,

but he knew he had to get his goats home.
Pica found Cappi wet and very
cold. She needed to get warm
Pica went to find Cappi. soon, but it was raining too
hard for them to go home.
In the middle of the thunder and
the pouring rain, he heard the
sound of Cappi’s bell. Pica yelled at Cloudhead, but
his words were lost to the wind
and the rain.
The wind knocked him over,
The rain stung his face, but he stood up again.
So Pica did the only thing but he kept on playing.
he could do — he stood up
and played his song.
He played his song to the end.
When Pica opened his eyes, the sky
was clear and bright with stars.

“Let’s go home,” Pica said to Cappi.

And that was what they did.
