LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH

GRADE 7

I. Objectives

At the end of the 60-minute period, the students will be able to:

a. differentiate simile and metaphor;


b. create own composition using simile and metaphor’ and
c. show teamwork during group activity.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Figures of Speech – Simile and Metaphor

Materials: cartolina strips, prepared handouts

D. Motivation: Singing Bee
The teacher will post some lyrics from famous songs but there are blanks in it for
the students to complete the lyrics and they need to sing it.

Song: ‘Your Love’ by Bryan Adams


Your love is _____ that lights up my whole world.
Song: ‘You’re My Sunshine’
__________, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are gray.

IV. Lesson Proper

A1. Activity

The teacher will group the students into three, where they will be given cartolina
strips containing sentences that the students would determine whether the sentences
are metaphor or simile and they will post it on the board. Who finished it faster, will
be the winner.
A2. Analysis

1. How do you find the activity? Is it difficult or easy?


2. What are your determiners in identifying metaphor or simile sentences?
3. What characteristics do they share?
4. Do you think there are differences between the two figurative languages?
5. Is it important hat we used figurative languages in our writings?

A3. Abstraction

A figure of speech is a word or phrase that possesses a separate meaning from its
literal definition.
Simile – a direct comparison between two different things using “like” or “as”.
Metaphor - make a comparison between two things that aren’t alike but do not have
something in common

Students will fill in the column as the generalization of the lesson.

Students will be grouped into five.


Each group should choose a classmate or a popular figure and write a paragraph to
describe that person with the use of figures of speech. The inputs should be based on
facts. They have 15 minutes to complete the activity then afterwards they will present
their output in a cartolina to be explained the whole class.

V. Evaluation

Write “S” if the sentence is simile and “M” if metaphor. Write the answers on the space
provided.

VI. Assignment

Read in advance other types of figures of speech such as hyperbole and irony.
