Materials:
● Hook size G/6 4.25mm
● Orange worsted weight yarn (Red Heart With Love,
Tangerine)
● Dark yellow worsted weight yarn (Vanna’s Choice,
Mustard)
● White fleece/felt

Pattern:
The body is worked from the mouth to the tail. Fins, whiskers, and
tail are worked separately, and then sewn together. If you’re
unfamiliar with the regular crocodile stitch, try watching a video
tutorial to familiarize yourself. This pattern works the crocodile
stitch upside down, and is explained below.
Body:
Ch 36, sl st to join in a circle.
Rnd 15:
Dc 36 around, working in back loops.
Rnd 6:
Ch 3, sk st, dc. [Ch 1, dc, st sk, dc].
Complete 12 upside down Vstitches.
Rnd 7:
Sl st towards rnd 5, work a dc around
the post of the next Vstitch. For each scale:
Work 5 dc around first post, ch 3, sl st into
previous dc (this point is called a picot),
then work 5 dc into next post. Sl st into next
Vstitch. You should sk a vstitch in between
scales. Complete 6 scales, and fasten off.
Rnd 8:
Attach anywhere on exposed ch of rnd 6. [4
sc, dec]. End with 30 sc.
Rnd 9:
Repeat rnd 6. Complete 10 upside down
Vstitches.
Rnd 10:
Repeat rnd 7, completing 5 scales.
Rnd 11:
Repeat rnd 8. Sc 3, dec. End with 24 sc.
Rnd 1213:
Repeat rnds 67 again, completing 8
vstitches and 4 scales.
Rnd 14:
Sc 2, dec. End with 18 sc.
Rnd 15:
Sc 1, dec. End with 12 dc.
Rnd 16:
Dec every st. Fasten off.
Don’t worry about the small hole at
the bottom. We’ll be sewing the tail over it.
Rejoin your yarn on rnd 1, so you can make spaces for the draw string.
Rnd 1b:
[Sc 4, ch 2, sk 2 st]. Repeat around so you have 6 spaces.
Rnd 2b:
Sl st to the 3rd sc in group of 4. [6hdc in ch sp, sc in 3rd
st of next group]. Complete 6 miniruffles.
You can either make long
chains for the drawstring, or use cording.
Orange Tail fin:
Make a magic circle.
Rnd 16:
sc 5
Rnd 7:
sc 2, dec, sc 1
Rnd 8:

Rnd 9:
sc 2, dec
Rnd 10:

Rnd 11:
sc, dec. Fasten off.
Stick a pipecleaner into the first half of
what will be a Ushape. Then, reattach to
rnd 1, and work rnds 111 again, working in
the opposite direction of the first half. Work around the pipecleaner,
and when you’re at rnd 9 or so, cut the end of the pipecleaner, so you
can easily fasten off around it.
Orange Side fin (Make 2):
Make a magic circle.
Rnd 110: Ch 2, sc 4. Sl st into first ch.
Rnd 11: Dec twice. Fasten off.
Optional: You can put pipe cleaners into these fins as well.
Yellow Top Fin:
Row 1:
Ch 11, sc into 2nd ch from
hook. Sc across. 10 sc total.
Each point on the fin is worked as
a separate triangle, and you will
fasten off at each tip.
Triangle 1 (furthest to left):
Row
1 sc, dec. Row 2sc, fasten off.
Triangle 2 (middle):
Reattach to the right of triangle 1. Row 1 sc,
dec, sc. Row 2 sc, dec. Row 3: 2 sc. Fasten off.
Triangle 3 (to the right):
Repeat triangle 1.
Finishing:
Sc around the shape. In the points, sc, ch 1, sc.
Yellow Bottom fin:
The bottom fin is worked
similarly to the top fin,
except it has 4 identical
points.
Row 1:
Ch 13, sc into 2nd ch
from hook. Sc across. 12 sc
total.
Triangles (work 4):
Row 1 sc, dec. Row 2 2 sc. Fasten off.
Finishing:
Sc around, and in the points, sc, ch 1, sc.
Yellow Whiskers (Make
2):
Ch around a yellow
pipe cleaner, leaving
a small tip of the
pipe cleaner poking
out. Fold the end of
the pipe cleaner over
your first stitch,
then as you sc around
the pipe cleaner,
cover the folded portion. Sc until you have about
4” of covered pipe cleaner and fasten off. Snip
off the end of the pipe cleaner, and fold it over your last st. The
small exposed portion of the pipe cleaner will be sewn onto your fish
face later.
Assembly and FINishing:
You’ll need to cut white fleece
(or felt) for the tail fin,
side fins, and eyeballs. Then,
hand sew the fleece onto your
fins, and the eyes to the face.
Then, sew your fins and
whiskers onto the body of your fish (See below for
images of where to place).
