The document discusses different landforms - terrace farming on hills, fold mountains like the Himalayas and Alps, block mountains like the Satpura and Vindhyas in India, volcanic mountains like Mt. Vesuvius and Mt. Fuji. It notes the importance of these landforms in providing fertile land for cultivation, minerals for industries, water from rivers, forests habitat, and acting as barriers to winds. Plains are described as having fertile soil for agriculture and being useful for transportation and construction. Plateaus are defined as flat, elevated land and store minerals while waterfalls in plateaus generate hydroelectricity.

Picture Study
1) Identify the picture.
Ans . Terrace farming on hills 2) Name the types of the landform shown in the picture with one example of each. Ans. Fold mountains, Block Mountains , Volcanic Mountains. Fold Mountains – Himalayas, Andes, Alps, Rockies, Aravallis, Urals, Appalachians Block Mountains- Satpura, Vindhyas in India Volcanic Mountains- Mt Vesuvius in Italy, Mt Fuji in Japan , Mt Kilimanjaro in Africa. 3) State the importance of the above landform. ( any 2 points ) Ans. River valleys and the gentle slopes of the mountains are useful for cultivation of crops and fruits. Mountains provide minerals for industries and stones for construction . Glaciers in the mountains give rise to perennial rivers which provide water throughout the year . Dams are built across these rivers and their water is used for irrigation and generation of hydroelectricity . Mountain slopes are covered with dense forests which are home to a variety of wildlife. They also provide timber, firewood, fodder, medicinal herbs , gum , resin .The meadows on the slopes of the mountains are excellent grazing grounds for sheep. The Himalayas stop the monsoon winds from the south west and prevent the cold wind from the north to cross over . 4) Define the above landform. Ans. A mountain is a large mass of land that rises to a great height which is much above the surrounding area. 1)Identify the landform. Ans. Plains 2)Name its types. Ans. Structural, Erosional, Depositional Plains 3)How is the above landform useful to us ? Ans. Most plains have fertile soil and provide ideal conditions for agriculture. The flat surface of plains helps in the construction of transport networks , buildings and industries. 4)Mention the height of the above landform. Ans. Plains are generally not more than 200 m above the mean sea level. 5)Give any 2 examples of the landform. Ans. Russian platform, West Siberian , Northern Plains of India, Yangtze Basin in China 1)Identify the landform. Ans. Plateau 2)Define the landform. Ans. A plateau is a large mass of comparatively flat land that rises abruptly from the surrounding area. 3)What it is also called as ? Ans. It is also called a tableland. 4)Give any 2 examples of waterfalls located in the above landform . Ans. Niagara Falls in North America , Jog Falls in India. 5)Explain the importance of the landform. ( any 2 points) Ans. Plateaus are a storehouse of minerals . In India , the Deccan and the Chotanagpur plateaus have vast reserves of coal, iron manganese and bauxite . Rivers in the plateau regions firm a number of waterfalls as they drop abruptly down the steep slopes. These waterfalls are utilized for generating hydroelectricity. Niagara Falls in North America and the Jog falls in India are some examples . Volcanic plateaus are extremely fertile and good for cultivation of cotton and sugarcane. The natural beauty of the plateau areas also attracts many tourists.
