Core Competency Reflection 2
Areas of Improvement
1. “I am personally responsible, self motivated, and can advocate for myself.”
• Sometimes I lack responsibility, do not have much motivation, and don't stand up
for myself. I don't have many things that motivate me in life, especially when I
am at home, I get lazy and less responsible for my work and myself. I have to find
something to motivate myself like hobbies or quotes, and I will have to note my
daily plan, so I do not get lazy at home.
Social Responsibility
Strengths
1. “I can identify and appreciate different perspectives on issues and use and evaluate
strategies to resolves problem.”
• When a problem arises, I tend to think about it from various perspectives.
Sometimes, when a friend has a problem and asks me, or when I have a problem,
I think about the cause of the problem from various angles and think about what
to do next so that the problem does not happen again. Sometimes I ask for advice
from my parents because they have more experience than I do.
2. “I value diversity, defend human rights, advocate for others, and act ethically in all my
interactions, including online.”
• I try to act ethically, including online, while respecting people of other cultures
and races. After coming to Canada, I saw how people with different lives and
ideas respected each other, learned about genocide while learning history, and
learned that I could become a perpetrator if I didn't act ethically. So, I try to
respect others and live ethically, even online. Especially online, I try to be neutral
as much as possible and often refrain from posting comments because I can be
swept away by people's opinions and post unethical comments.
Areas of Improvement
1. “I am aware of my community and environment and work independently and
collaboratively for the benefit of others.”
• Sometimes we don't think about the environment. Garbage is thrown into the
trash can, but there are times when the collection is not separated, and there are
times when I take a shower for more than 20 minutes. These measures will be
modified to reduce shower times and improve segregated collection so that local
water quality is not polluted, or waste disposal personnel are not disturbed.
Critical Thinking
Strength
1. “I understand the purpose for my work and consider my audience.”
• Think about the intention of the work and try to be considerate of the audience. If
I work without knowing the intention of my work, I cannot expect the results that
the audience wants, and if I do not do that, I think my work is meaningless, so I
tend to check what I have to do first. Also, I believe that the intention of my work
is that what I do now will make me a better person later.
Areas of Improvement
3. “I can assess my progress.”
• I know I need to keep track of my things and get things going, but I'm not very
good at it. I must make a notebook where I write down my to-dos and keep track
of my things.
Creative Thinking
Strength
1. “I can persevere and understand that failure can be productive.”
• I've been told since childhood that failure can be productive. Edison made the
light bulb after more than 1,000 failures, and even if it's not these failures, I think
failures can develop or become successes because there are experiences where
things I thought were failures were fine in the eyes of others.
2. “I can take my ideas evaluate, develop, and refine them and make something productive
out of them.”
• In my engineering class last semester, I learned that developing an idea can lead
to more practical work. From the initial idea, we have been able to further
develop our work by continuously adding and changing ideas such as design and
how it works.
Areas of Improvement
1. “I can create new and unique ideas that may provide new perspectives that influence how
people think about topics.”
• I lack the ability to come up with unique and new ideas. I usually listened to
other people's ideas rather than coming up with my own, so I didn't have much
time to come up with unique ideas. Still, I like to imagine everything, so I need to
practice developing new ideas by combining my own imagination with the unique
ideas of others.
Communication
Strength
1. “I can listen, learn to contribute meaningfully to discussion and debate, consider different
perspectives, and build consensus.”
• I learned to listen and contribute meaningfully to discussions and discussions
through English and social media. In discussions, respect and listen to the other
party first, and do not intervene when you arbitrarily express your opinion
because you have a different opinion. You should also be aware that your opinion
may have flaws, and you should pay attention to and listen to the other person's
opinion, and refer to it if there is something you need to learn or need.
2. “I can reflect on the processes of learning and share what I have learned.”
• I can explain what I have learned to my friends. I try to be as clear as possible,
letting my friends know when they have questions about math and chemistry, and
making sure there are no errors in reviewing and clearly communicating what I've
learned. I also let my friends know that I could be wrong where I'm not sure.
Areas of Improvement
1. “I can work with other students to plan, inquire, and solve problems.”
• I fall short in planning and asking questions in collaboration with other students.
Because of language difficulties, I worked alone, and I spent more time alone than
in collaboration. This made it difficult to plan and work collaboratively with
others. I need to get closer to people and work together.
Areas of Improvement
1. I know my strengths and what makes me unique.
• I don't know what my strengths are or what makes me special compared to others.
I thought that there was nothing I particularly liked and nothing in particular I
wanted to do. I need to create more hobbies, try them out, and find my talents.
