“To foretell the destiny of a nation, it is necessary to open the

book of stories that tells of his past and let it seeds grow as inspirations”.

The message that it seeks to imply to us Filipinos is that we have to look back from our
history and be awakened by the injustices, corruption and political and social disorder in our
nation. This saying denotes that we should learn from the mistakes of the past so that the same
would not be repeated. It means that history is the greatest lesson on earth. We should have
spirit to fight for freedom against the oppressive and corrupt government regime. It also calls
for an increase sense of nationalism and stir a greater sense of fervor from Filipinos to believe
in the power of democracy.
Rizal’s nationalism principles served as the foundation to set our country free from the
hands of the Spaniards. It aims to strengthen the ideals and values that Rizal strove to fight for.
It was written mainly for the Filipino people most specifically the Filipino youth, who may have
lost their sense of nationalism and belief in their country.
In these present times, there is a need to revisit the ideals of freedom and nationalism
for which our heroes lived and died. Rizal wrote his verses because during those times, the
Philippines is still struggling for freedom and independence and the country was still gradually
developing its national identity and integrity. The numerous uprisings and revolts were hidden
from the past, but the history remains to be the biggest weapon, we Filipinos must keep and
maintain.
As a Filipino youth, I must emulate the ideas and inspirations of our national heroes
especially for this present generation when our culture is being overpowered by foreign
influences and Filipino movements are widespread all over the nation.
