LESSON INTRO
Welcome to TLE information and communication technology computer system
servicing explanatory course for grade 7.
ABSTRACTION
This learning be source hope so engaged to learners and to guided and independent
learning activity add you own place and time. Further more this also edge to help
the learners acquired their needed 20th century skill and taking into consideration
their needs and circumstances.
To acquire skills and knowledge in this learning resource you will be guided by the
following
Lets begin by discussing about hand tools use in computer system servicing.
HAND TOOLS- are useful for daily task. There are different types of tools which
can be used for any kind of task to be performed. Some tools are versatile and some
function specific. When using the hand tools, proper use and precision are much
more important than speed of work. Based on the type of work that has to be done,
a craftsman must be adept with his hands as well as choose the right kind of tools.
Lack of knowledge or negligence may led to mistakes that can cause injury.
A TOOL- is a handheld device that aids in accomplishing a task. Tools range from
a traditional metal cutting part of a machine to an element of a computer program
that activates and controls a particular function.
Using tools properly helps prevent accidents and damage to equipment and
people. This section describes and covers the proper use of a variety of hardware,
software, and organizational tools specific to working with computers and
peripherals.
Safe use of tools environments safety and health program requires the
following:
the right tool must be used for the job.
Each tool be examined before use.
damaged or defective tools NOT to be used.
Tools be operated according to manufactures instructions.
The right protective equipment for the tool and activity be used.
For every job there is the right tool. Make sure that you can familiar with the correct
use of each tool and that the correct tool is used for the current task. Skilled use of
tools and software makes the job less difficult and ensures that task are performed
properly and safety.
Now let’s no more about the different classification of tools and their uses.
1. Electro- static discharge (ESD) tools there are two ESD tools: the antistatic
wrist strap and antistatic mat. The antistatic wrist strap protects and equalize
electrical charge between you and computer equipment when grounded to a
computer chassis. The antistatic mat protects computer equipment by
preventing static electricity from accumulating on the hardware or on the
technician.
2. Hand tools- most tools use in the computer assembly process are small hand
tools. There are available individually or as part of a computer toolkit. Toolkit
range widely in size, quality, and price. Some common hand tools and their
uses are:
Flat- head screwdriver- used to lighten or loosen slotted screw.
Phillips- head screwdriver- use to tighten or loosen cross- headed screw.
Torx screwdriver- used to tighten or loosen screw that have a star- like depression
on the top, a feature that is mainly found on laptops.
Hex driver- used to tighten or loosen nuts in the same way that a screwdriver
tighten or loosen screws (sometimes called a nut driver).
Needle- nose pliers- used to hold small parts.
Wire cutter- used to strip and cut wires. Tweezers- used to manipulate small
parts.
Part retriever- used to retrieve parts from locations that are too small for your
hand to fit.
Flashlight- used to light up areas that you cannot see well.
Wire stripper- it is used to remove the insulation from wire so that it can be
twisted to other wires or crimped to connectors to make a cable.
Crimping tool- used to attach connectors to wires.
Punch- down tool- used to terminate wire into termination blocks.
Toner probe- a two-part tool. The toner part is connected to a cable at one
end using specific adapters, such as an RG-45, coaxial, or metal clips. The
toner generates a tone that travels the length of the cable. The probe part
traces the cable. When the probe is in near proximity to the cable to which the
tone can be heard through a speaker in the probe.
Digital Multimeter- a device that can take many types of measurements. It
tests the integrity of circuit and the quality of electricity in computer
components. A digital Multimeter displays the information on an LCD or
LED.
Let me know how much of your learned from our lesson for today. Please prepare a
pen and a paper.
At this moment, I would like you to be challenged with the meaningful activities
found on information and communication technology computer system servicing
explanatory course Quarter 1 Lesson 1 pages 15 and 16. These activities will gauge
your understanding of today’s lesson .
You may now start answering activity number 1 on page 15. Let me read to you the
directions. Identify the tool being described by the statement. Write your answer in
your notebook or paper.
I am confident that your scores in all activities were impressive and excellent!
If you haven’t got them all right, it’s fine. Your scores won’t define your
personality.
