Q. no 3 and 4 are Assertion - Reasoning based questions.

These consist of two statements – Assertion (A) and Reason (R). Answer these
questions selecting the appropriate option given below:
(a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A
(b) Both A and R are true and R is not the correct explanation of A
(c) A is true but R is false
(d) A is False but R is true

3. Assertion: Untreated wastewater may lead to infections and diseases. 1

Reason: Untreated wastewater contains a heavy load of disease causing
bacteria and other microorganisms.
ans: (a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A
Ch 18: Wastewater Story, Pg- 297

4. Assertion: The hawk is an omnivore. 1

Reason: Omnivorous animals feed on both plants and the flesh of other
animals.
ans: (d) A is False but R is true

SECTION – B
Q. no. 5 and 6 are very short answer questions.
5. Why are forests called the ‘green lungs’? 2
ans: Forests are called ‘green lung’ as they play important role in:
• the purification of air and,
• maintaining the balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the
atmosphere
1+1 = 2 marks

Ch 17: Forests: Our lifeline, Pg- 279

6. Some of the activated sludge is added back to the aeration tank and some is 2
dried, during the secondary treatment of clarified water.
How is activated sludge dried? Mention one use of dried activated sludge.
ans: • The water present above the activated sludge is removed by
using sand drying beds or machines.
• Dried sludge is used as manure.
1+1= 2 marks
Ch 18: Wastewater Story, Pg- 300

SECTION – C
Q.no. 7 is short answer question.
7. Ramesh installed the septic system as shown in the figure. 3

(a) Name two materials that act as biological filters in the given septic
system.

CB/VII/2223 Revision Question Bank 2 page 3 of 5

ans: Gravel and soil act as biological filters.
½ +½ = 1 mark

(b) State two advantages of installing this type of septic system.

ans: This type of septic system:
• treats and disposes of household wastewater onsite/ would
not require the installation of miles of sewer lines
• is less disruptive to the environment
• is less expensive than the sewer systems
(accept any two)
Ch 18: Wastewater Story, Pg- 302
1+1=2 marks

SECTION – D
Q. no. 8 is a long answer question.
8. Amit places an object far away from a lens. The nature of the image formed 5
is real and inverted.
(a) Name the lens used.
ans: Convex lens
1 mark
(b) What will be the nature of the image formed if Amit places the object
very close to the lens?
ans: Virtual and magnified
1 mark
(c) State any three uses of this lens.
ans: Convex lenses are used:
• to make spectacles but for people who are not able to see
nearby objects clearly
• in devices such as microscopes and magnifying glasses
• in cameras to improve the quality of photographs

SECTION E
Q. no. 9 is a case – based/ data – based questions with 2 to 3 short sub – parts.
9. Sangeeta builds an electric circuit. She places a compass on a table near the 4
connecting wire of the circuit. She allows a 10 A current to flow through the
circuit.
(a) What change will Sangeeta observe in the compass when the current
flows through the circuit? What must be the reason behind this
observation?
ans: • The compass needle shows deflection/deflects.
• When an electric current is passed through a conductor, a
magnetic field is set up around it as long as the current flows
through the conductor.
1+1=2 marks
(b) The current flowing through the circuit is now reduced to 5 A.
What change will Sangeeta observe in the compass needle compared
to (a) above? Justify.
ans: • The needle of the compass will show less deflection.
• Justification: The strength of the magnetic field produced by
the current depends upon the strength of the current.
