Content Illustrate Random Sampling
Grade Level 11

Time Allotment 240 minutes

Content Standard The learner demonstrates understanding of

key concepts of sampling and sampling
distributions of the sample mean
Performance Standard The learner is able to apply suitable sampling
and sampling distributions of the sample mean
to solve real-life problems in different
disciplines.
DAY 1 illustrates random sampling.distinguishes between parameter and statistic. ( 60 Minutes)

 Learning Competency A Different kinds of Sampling Techniques.

Activity ( 15 minutes) Materials

WORD BANK
Recall the topic on computing probabilities and percentile using the standard normal table.Find the equivalent expression in the
box,

P(a<z<b) P(z>a) p(z<a)

1.denotes a probability that the z score is between a and b

2.denotes a probability that the z score is greater than a
3.denotes a probability that the z score is less than a
Analysis ( 5 minutes)

Picture Puzzle
On a Piece of Paper, print the word SAMPLE and cut it into 3 pieces with each piece bearing the definition of population, sample
and random sampling. When all terms had been answered, ask students to unlock the picture shown in the Puzzle.
Abstraction ( 25 minutes)

Population - set of all the possible values of a variable

Sample - consist of 1 or more data drawn from the popoulation
Random Sampling - choosing representatives from a given population wherein every sample
has the equal opportunity to be chosen.

Identifying the different random sampling techniques:

A. probability samping - involves random selection
B. Non-probability sampling - donesn’t involve random sampling

Different types of probability random sampling:

1. Simple random sampling

2. Systematic random sampling
3. Stratified random sampling
4. Cluster random sampling
5. Convenience sampling

Different types of non-probability random sampling:

1. Snowball sampling
2. Quota sampling
3. Volunteer sampling

Story Telling
Recall the idea mentioned above. Ask learners to tell a story related to the lesson.

Sampling Error- the difference between the sample mean and the population

Sampling Distribution of Sample Mean - is a frequency distribution using the means computed
from all possible random sampleof a specificsize taken from the population.

Steps in constructing the sampling distribution of the mean:

1. Determine the number of sets
2. List all possible samples and compute the mean of each sample.
3. Construct he sampling distribution.
4. Construct the histogram of the means

Use the formuka of combination:
