    PE 2- LARO NG LAHI

    1. What particular laro Ng Lahi or Filipino sports/games that can be performed by group.

    - Agawang Sulok. (Get a Corner)


    - Lawin at Sisiw. (Hawk and Chickens)
    - Taguan (Hide and Seek)

    2. Discuss briefly the history of that chosen laro Ng Lahi/sports

    AGAWANG SULOK
    - Agawan base is one of the traditional games in the Philippines. It literally means “capturing
    base”. If you haven’t played it during your childhood, you must have missed the fun! It is a
    running game and is usually played during recess or right after the class in an open grassy
    field where everybody could run and be chased freely(considering that Tetris Battle and
    Defense of the Ancient has not yet flourished in gaming). It doesn’t matter if you’re an adult
    as long as you are enjoying this game. If it sounds interesting to you, that’s great! Let me
    help you know more about this pastime.

    LAWIN AT SISIW
    - Hawk and chickens (Lawin at Sisiw) is one of the strangest traditional Filipino games I have
    heard but it made me appreciate what I found out. The history of this game was based on
    legend. The story started when the family of Lolo Andres and Lola Anding together with their
    grandchild Roy and Lorna had a vacation in the province. One morning, while Roy and Lorna
    were playing at the Guava tree they saw a hawk chasing the chicks of the hen. The hen was
    left behind as if she was trying to fight the hawk. Suddenly the two kids jump over the
    ground and start yelling to the hawk that made it fly away. The attention of Lola Anding and
    Lolo Andres was called because of their loud voices. After that, the two kids were curious
    about what they saw. They ask their grandparents regarding it and Lola Anding starts to
    tell the story about the hawk and the hen. In the past years, the hen and the hawk were
    friends until one morning the hen wanted to go to the fiesta where she wanted to feel pretty
    in the eyes of a rooster. She asks a favour to the hawk if she can borrow his ring.
    Undoubtedly, the hawk gave permission to the hen to borrow his ring but warned her to take
    care of it. She promised to take good care of the ring. The next morning, the hen went to the
    fiesta. The rooster was happy to see her and they danced all along until she was sleepy and
    decided to head back home. The next morning, she was shocked that the ring was lost. She is
    searching for the ring everywhere but she cannot find it. The time came when the hawk
    knew about what happened, she said to the chicken that if she cannot find the ring he would
    use his claw to get her chicks. Every day the hen was struggling to find the ring as well as
    other hens for them to keep the safety of their chicks. Unfortunately the two creatures end
    up as enemies until the day they die. That is the reason why the hawk until now captures the
    chicks of the hen. The lesson of the story is you have to do what you have promised to a
    person.

    TAGUAN
    - Taguan, most commonly known as “hide and seek” is the world's most basic and most popular
    type of children’s game to exist up to the modern time. Apparently this has also been a local
    game in the Philippines but these local games are now starting to decline from existence due
    to technological advances and exposure to children. In any case, this local game itself has
    made an impact on both the history of humankind and also on the future of the modern
    child. As we expound ourselves in this local but popular game, we’ll see what its importance is,
    and implications are to this world. But first, let us understand how it is played and what the
    conditions in actively experiencing this local game are.

    3. Discuss briefly the mechanics and scoring on that chosen laro ng lahi.

    AGAWANG SULOK
    - Agawang sulok (lit. catch and own a corner): the it or tagger stands in the middle of the
    ground. The players in the corners will try to exchange places by running from one base to
    another. Then it should try to secure a corner or base by rushing to any of those when it is
    vacant. This is called “agawan base” in some variants, and “bilaran” in others.

    LAWIN AT SISIW
    - The mechanics of the game is started by selecting one hawk and one hen and rest of the
    players left will be the chicks of the hen. This exciting game is played by 10 or more players.
    The chicks of the hen should hold each other’s waists, and then the hen will lead them. The
    hen’s goal is to widen out her wings, literally her hands and defend her chicks for the hawk
    will try each possible way to catch the chickens. When the hen moves to block the hawk, all
    chickens should also move in the same direction so the hawk could not attack them. In
    addition, they should never lose grip of each other’s waists or clothes, otherwise the chain will
    be broken and they will be easily caught by the hawk. If any chicken is that unlucky, he will
    become the new hawk and the hawk will be a new chicken in the next round. Usually, the last
    chicken in line is the hardest to catch. The game is very tiresome but you can learn how to
    communicate well, in using strategies, gestures, or nastiest face work. A sense of
    Cooperation and unity are the values you can learn. Your agility will be tested, mental
    strength and physical strength. It’s like risking your life for an alternative exercise :).This
    game will make 5 litres of perspiration out of your body. It’s one of the unusual but worth
    playing games for. May I say “Run for life little chicks because the hawk is coming but wait
    mother hen is coming to save you!”

    TAGUAN
    - The mechanics of the game is very simple, firstly the game must consist of more than 2
    people. Secondly is one of the players will be the “seeker” where this player is assigned to
    search for the other players, but before that happens he/she will turn to the wall or rather
    will face the home base where he/she will either count to ten or one hundred (depends on the
    agreement of the players) and the others will hide from him. Third, the role of the other
    players is to hide from the “seeker” and must try to reach the home base while unfound by
    that player. Fourth, whoever is found first will be the next “seeker”, whoever was found last
    shall be the winner of that round, winning the round also applies to those who reached home
    base without being found. Lastly, if the “seeker” found other player/s, then he/she must run
    to home base and shout that the name of the player that was found, if the found player
    reaches the home base before him then that player is safe. As we can all see, the mechanics
    of this game are very simple.

    4. What are the benefits we can get from that sport?

    - Many athletes do better academically


    - Many athletes do better academically
    - Sports teach teamwork and problem-solving skills
    - Physical health benefits of sports
    - Sports boost self-esteem
    - Reduce pressure and stress with sports.
