Good Niyyah (Intention)

Ramadan is time for gathering good deeds. but your Niyyah will make or
break what you are doing in Ramadan or any other time. When you do
ANYTHING, make a good intention for it. For example:-

NOT: You are fasting so that everyone will say,

“Wow, look at that child, she’s such a good Muslim!”

BUT: You are fasting so that Allah will be happy with you
and you will earn good deeds.

Are these Niyyahs correct? Underline “correct” or “incorrect” and

then explain a bit why it is correct or not.

Layla is wearing a hijab so that everyone will admire her, saying , “Wow,
that girl is such a good Muslimah!

Islamic Months
Our Islamic calender is called the Hijri calender, and follows the phases
of the moon. Every month the Hijri calender has 29 or 30 days. Four out
of the 12 months in the islamic calender are sacred months. They are
Muharram, Rajab, Dhul Q’ada and Dhul Hijjah. The 12 Islamic months
are determined by the sighting of the moon. Learn the names of the
months in Arabic and answer the questions.

Fasting of the traveller and the sick

Allah says in Surah Al Baqarah vs 184:

“Observe Saum (fast) for a fixed number of days, but if any of you
is ill or on a journey, the same number (should be made up) from other days.”

Hadith
Sahih Bukhari - Narrated by Aisha , (the wife of the Prophet)
Hamza bin Amr Al Aslami asked the Prophet, "Should I fast while travelling?"
The Prophet replied, " You may fast if you wish and you may not fast if
you wish."

Allaah has made it easy for us. If we are sick or travelling, we are
excused from fasting and allowed to make up the fast another day.

To be done with the help of an Adult

Jollof
INGREDIENTS Rice
· 3 cups | 750g long grain parboiled rice
· Tomato Stew
· Meat /Chicken
· Pepper and salt (to taste)
· 2 medium onions
· 3 Knorr cubes
· 2 teaspoons thyme

BEFORE YOU COOK JOLLOF RICE

1. Prepare the tomato stew.
2. If you will use whole chicken then wash and cut it into pieces.
Cook with the thyme, Knorr cubes and 2 bulbs of onions (chopped).
The cooking time depends on the type of chicken. When done, grill it in
an oven or also fry it. This is to give it a golden look which is more
presentable especially if you have guests for dinner.
3. Parboil the rice. Rinse the parboiled rice and put in a sieve to drain.

COOKING DIRECTIONS
1. Pour the chicken stock and the tomato stew into a sizeable pot and
leave to boil.
2. Add the drained parboiled rice, salt and pepper to taste. The water level
should be the same level of the rice. This is to ensure that all the
water dries up by the time the rice is cooked.
3. Cover the pot and leave to cook on low to medium heat. This way the rice
does not burn before the water dries up.
The rice should be done by the time the water is dry. Taste to confirm.
If not, you will need to add more water and reduce the heat to
prevent burning. Keep cooking till done.
Serve with Fried Plantain, Moi Moi, Salad or Coleslaw.
