1. PLANNING INFORMATION
A. Effectivity

(1) This Service Bulletin is applicable to these CF34-10E
turbofan engines:
• CF34-10E engines, serial numbers 994111, 994113, through
994122.
(2) The improvement described in this Service Bulletin has
been introduced on these CF34-10E turbofan production
engines:
• CF34-10E engines, serial numbers 994123 and up.

B. Concurrent Requirements
Do CF34-10E S/B 72-0007 when you do this Service Bulletin.
C. Description
(1) This Service Bulletin introduces improved low pressure
turbine (LPT) and high pressure turbine (HPT) hardware as
follows:
(a) The LPT hardware changes are as follows:
1 Decrease the LPT case forward flange outer diameter
and tolerance.
2 Addition of 2 mil height bumpers on the forward and
aft end of the outer diameter for the No. 5 roller
bearing outer race at the oil damper.
3 LPT stage 1 through stage 3 blade geometry and LPT
stage 2 and stage 3 disk geometry changes.
4 Introduce a new pressure balance seal rear support.
5 Reduce the size of the orifice for 4 LPT cooling
tubes.
(b) The HPT hardware changes are as follows:
1 The new HPT outer stationary seal PN 2070M56G03 has
fewer bypass holes than the old HPT outer stationary
seal PN 2070M56G02 configuration, thus reducing
flow.
2 The new HPT inner stationary seal PN 2070M46G03 has
1/32-inch cell honeycomb instead of 1/16-inch cell
honeycomb and the cold build clearance is reduced by
0.0015 inch (0.04 mm) radially.
3 The new HPT stage 1 shroud consists of a new
material N2. In addition to the material change,
multiple geometry changes have been introduced on
the new shroud, shroud hanger, and spline seals to
reduce leakage through the system.
D. Compliance
Category 7
GE recommends that you do this Service Bulletin at
customer's convenience.
E. Reason
(1) Objective:
(a) To introduce improved LPT and HPT hardware for specific
fuel consumption (SFC) improvements as follows:
1 The LPT case forward flange outer diameter and
tolerance has been decreased to minimize HPT rotor
to stator eccentricity. A misalignment of the LP and

HP joint leads to a decrease SFC.


2 The 2 mil height bumpers have been added to reduce
high pressure compressor (HPC) and HPT blade tip
rubbing by increasing HPC and HPT blade tip
clearances. HPC and HPT blade tip rubbing decrease
SFC.
3 LPT stage 1 through stage 3 blade geometry and LPT
stage 2 and stage 3 disk geometry changes are being
made to reduce the required cooling flow. Reduced
cooling flow will provide increased SFC.
4 The new pressure balance seal rear support has a
reduced number of cooling holes and thus reduces the
cooling flow required. Reduced cooling flow will
provide increased SFC.
5 Reducing the size of the orifice for 4 LPT cooling
tubes reduces the required cooling flow. Reduced
cooling flow will provide increased SFC.
(b) The new HPT stage 1 shroud material was changed to
improve the corrosion resistance of this part.
(2) Condition:
(a) Engines without the improved LPT and HPT hardware will
have higher engine SFC.
(b) The old HPT stage 1 shroud base material N5, has a low
chromium content. This is the cause of the lower
corrosion resistance at the typical flow path
temperatures.
(3) Cause:
(a) The interference fit on the HPT T-flange to LPT case
forward flange is tighter than required. Opening it up
will help improve SFC.
(b) Further studies showed that the damper's gap impact on
SFC is significant enough to make a change.
(c) Engine test and analysis shows that several gaps and
leakages are larger than necessary. By closing down
these gaps and leakage areas, the cooling flow to the
HPT and LPT can be reduced and the aerodynamic
efficiency increased.
(4) Improvement:
(a) The improved LPT and HPT hardware optimizes cooling
flows and clearances in different flight phases. These
optimized cooling flows and clearances reduce engine
SFC.
(b) The changes to the HPT stationary inner and outer seals
will result in reduced parasitic flow. The geometric

changes in the stage 1 shroud, hanger, and seals reduce


leakage of cooling air into the flowpath. Both of these
improve SFC.
(c) The new shroud material N2, was developed specifically
for shroud applications. Changes in the chemical
composition of the alloy improve the corrosion
resistance of the material with negligible impact to
other key material properties for a shroud application.
(5) Substantiation:
Substantiation is by test, similarity, and comparative
analysis to the current certified parts.
F. Approval
This Service Bulletin has been reviewed by the FAA and the
repair(s) and modification(s) herein comply with the
applicable Federal Aviation Regulations and are FAA APPROVED
for installation in the model(s) listed in this Service
Bulletin.
G. Manpower
No additional man-hours are necessary to do this Service
Bulletin if accomplished at an approved overhaul facility.
H. Weight and Balance
Weight and balance are not changed.

K. Interchangeability
If the SFC improvement is necessary, all parts must be
replaced concurrently.
If the SFC improvement is not a concern, the following
qualified interchangeability statements apply:
(1) The proposed outer HPT stationary seal PN 2070M56G03 and
the proposed HPT stator inner stationary seal PN
2070M46G03 must be introduced concurrently.
(2) Replace old LPT rear frame assembly PN 2205M42G05, with
new parts. Do not replace new parts with old parts.
(3) Replace old or new A/O LPT case PN 2226M37G06 with either
old or new part.
(4) Replace old or new roller cylindrical No. 5 bearing PN
2226M51P04 with either old or new parts.
(5) LPT blades, LPT disks, LPT cooling air tubes, and
pressure balance seal rear support must be introduced
concurrently.
(6) The new HPT stator shrouds P/N 2080M76P02 and new seals
P/N 2084M12P08 and P/N 2084M12P09 can be installed as a
set with either:
(a) Desired Configuration: A set of the new configuration
HPT stator shroud hangers P/N 2084M48G04 and new seals
P/N 2084M12P10.
OR
(b) Acceptable Configuration: A set of the current
configuration HPT stator shroud hangers P/N 2084M48G03
and current seals P/N 2084M12P07.
(7) However, the current HPT stator shrouds P/N 2080M76P01
cannot be installed with the new HPT stator shroud
hangers P/N 2084M48G04.

I. Re-identify
(1) Locate LPT module identification bracket PN 2227M59P01,
at the LPT case aft flange, at boltholes No. 61 and No.
62, at the 9 o'clock position, aft looking forward.
(2) Re-identify the LPT module assembly part number on the
LPT module identification bracket PN 2227M59P01, as
follows: Refer to GEK 9250 (70-16-04, VIBRO-PEEN MARKING)
TASK 70-16-04-350-019.
CAUTION: DO NOT MAKE A MARK THROUGH THE SERIAL NUMBER.
NOTE: Maintain legibility of the old part number.
(a) Mark a single line through the old part number.
(b) Mark the new part number next to the old part number.
