Summary
Introduction

A centrifugal pump is one of the more commonly used pumps to transfer fluids. The purpose
of a centrifugal pump is to induce a flow from low level to high level by rotation to convert
energy.

These pumps are used in many appliances from cosmetics to the petroleum industry and even
wine making. They are commonly used in oil refineries and power plants. A centrifugal pump
is also used domestically in plumbing they can be used for wastewater management and
drainage, as well as fire sprinkling protection systems and heating and cooling systems.
Therefore, this practical is a very relevant and informative study which may be applied in
various vastly used processes. (Pump Sales Direct, 2018)
The objective of this practical is to determine the pump characteristic curves, such as the
pressure head, efficiency, power, and flow trends for a single centrifugal pump at two
different pump speeds and impeller diameters.

This technical report will be summarising the practical, as well as dissecting the process and
to determine our objectives. The results will be compiled and discussed, and conclusions and
recommendations will thereafter be analysed to improve this experiment.

Shaft power

For rpm 1450rpm

Electrical power -400W (0.4kW)
Ps =0.9729 kW −0.4
Ps =0.57929 kW

For rpm 2900 rpm

Electrical power -500W (0.5kW)
