3. HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION

Harmful if swallowed. Irritating to skin. Risk of serious damage to eyes. May cause
sensitisation by skin contact. Very toxic to aquatic organisms. Possible risk of harm to
the unborn child. Toxic to Reproductive Health Category 3.

4. FIRST AID MEASURES

INHALATION: Remove victim immediately from source of exposure. Provide rest, warmth and fresh
air. Get medical attention if any discomfort continues. If respiratory problems, artificial
respiration/oxygen.
INGESTION: DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING! Rinse mouth thoroughly. Drink plenty of water. Get
medical attention immediately! NEVER MAKE AN UNCONSCIOUS PERSON VOMIT OR
DRINK FLUIDS!
SKIN: Wash the skin immediately with soap and water. Get medical attention promptly if
symptoms occur after washing.
EYES: Promptly wash eyes with plenty of water while lifting the eye lids. Continue to rinse for
at least 15 minutes. Get medical attention promptly if symptoms occur after washing.

5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES

EXTINGUISHING MEDIA: This material is not flammable. Use extinguishing media appropriate for surrounding
fire.
SPECIAL FIRE FIGHTING Use supplied air respirator if substance is involved in a fire. Cool containers exposed

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

PERSONAL PRECAUTION IN SPILL: Wear suitable protective clothing, gloves and safety goggles.

PRECAUTIONS TO PROTECT Dyke to prevent entering any sewer or waterway.

SPILL CLEANUP METHODS: Absorb in vermiculite, dry sand or earth and place into containers.

7. HANDLING AND STORAGE

USAGE PRECAUTIONS: Ventilate well, avoid breathing vapours. Use approved respirator if air contamination
is above accepted level. Avoid spilling, skin and eye contact.
STORAGE PRECAUTIONS: The drums should be stored, with their seals intact, in conditions that avoid extremes
of temperatures. If the product is to be stored in bulk containers, please contact Baker
Petrolite for advice on materials of construction of the containers. Under these
conditions the shelf life of the product should be approximately two years.
STORAGE CRITERIA: Enviromentally hazardous storage.

8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS AND PERSONAL PROTECTION

PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:

PROCESS CONDITIONS: Use engineering controls to reduce air contamination to permissible exposure level.

VENTILATION: Provide adequate general and local exhaust ventilation.

RESPIRATORS: Use chemical cartridge protection with appropriate cartridge. CCROV, CCR with
organic vapour cartridge.
PROTECTIVE GLOVES: Use protective gloves made of: Neoprene, nitrile, polyethylene or PVC.

EYE PROTECTION: Wear approved chemical safety goggles where eye exposure is reasonably probable.

OTHER PROTECTION: Wear appropriate clothing to prevent repeated or prolonged skin contact.

HYGIENIC WORK PRACTICES: Wash at the end of each work shift and before eating, smoking and using the toilet.
Wash promptly with soap & water if skin becomes contaminated. Promptly remove

11. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION

INHALATION: Exposure may result in eye, nose and respiratory irritation, and may produce
nausea, headache and dizziness.
INGESTION: Harmful if swallowed. May cause gastrointestinal distress with nausea, vomiting and
diarrhoea.
SKIN: Brief, intermittant skin contact may cause moderate to severe irritation resulting in
skin rashes. Repeated skin contact may produce allergic sensitisation. In such cases
further contact may cause allergic rashes.
EYES: Risk of serious damage to eye. Contact with eyes will result in severe irriattion or
burns and, if not immediately removed, may lead to permanent eye damage.
