    NETWORK DIAGRAM

    1. Draw the network diagram (use activity on the node).


    2. Determine a. project duration, b. total float and the critical path.

    a. Project Duration
    The project will take 83 days to promote the organization in the North East of England.
    b. Total Float
    The total float or slack time is 93 days.
    c. Critical Path

    This project's critical path is (Activity A-E-F-G-H-I-K-L-M-N-P-Q) because it has no or


    is equivalent to zero (0) slacks. This is the longest path, but it takes the least amount of time to
    complete the project. These activities, however, cannot be postponed because doing so will cause
    the entire project to be delayed. There are five activities that have a slack time and are not on the
    critical path (B, C, D, J, O).

    3. If the project starts on the Monday 25 July 2011 what is the earliest date it can be completed
    using a 5 day working week? Assume no other holidays.

    If you work five days a week, the earliest date the project can be completed is by
    November 16, 2011.

    4. If the following happened what would be the effect on the duration of the whole project?
    Explain the reasons.

    1. A 2 day delay during activity O.

    Since action O is not on the critical path, a day delay during that activity will not
    ruin the entire project length. Additionally, Activity O has a slack period (67 days),
    which indicates that if a delay occurs during those days, it will not affect the project's
    completion schedule.

    2. Activity Q is delayed 1 day.

    If Activity Q is postponed for one day, the overall project duration will be 84 days
    instead of 83 days, meaning, there will be an increase by 1 day. This is because Activity
    Q is on the critical path of the project and has no slack time, implying that a delay in
    Activity Q will cause the entire project to be delayed.

    3. A 1 day delay during activity D.


    Though since activity D is not on the critical path, a one-day delay will have no
    impact on the entire project duration. Furthermore, Activity D has a slack time (8 days),
    which is an allowance that shows that if a delay happens within eight days, the project's
    completion date will not be affected.
