Q.7) Hansel and Gretel were the children of a poor woodcutter. One day, the
children’s stepmother persuaded their father to take the children and
abandon them in the forest. The first time, Hansel left a trail of pebbles

Q.8) The history of the Alhambra is linked with the geographical place where it
is located: Granada, Spain. On a rocky hill that is difficult to access, on the
banks of the river Darro, protected by mountains and surrounded by woods,
among the oldest quarters in the city, the Alhambra rises up like an
imposing castle with reddish tones in its ramparts that prevent the outside
world from seeing the delicate beauty they enclose.
Originally designed as a military area, the Alhambra became the residence
of royalty and of the court of Granada in the middle of the thirteenth
century, after the establishment of the Nasrid kingdom and the construction
of the first palace, by the founder king Mohammad ibn Yusuf ben Nasr,
better known as Alhamar.
Throughout the thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, the fortress
became a citadel with high ramparts and defensive towers, which house two
main areas: the military area, or Alcazaba, the barracks of the royal guard,
and the medina or court city, the location of the famous Nasrid Palaces and
the remains of the houses of noblemen and plebeians who lived there. The
Charles V Palace, (which was built after the city was taken by the Catholic
Monarchs in 1492) is also in the medina.
The complex of monuments also has an independent palace opposite the
Alhambra, surrounded by orchards and gardens, which was where the
Granadine kings relaxed: the Generalife.

Q.16) Beggars have become a big problem for us today. They come as a street
musicians, street boys, ’sick’ people, ’lost’ people, or just beggars. As their
number is getting bigger, the municipal government feels the need to set a
regulation to ban beggars. Many people support this.
They say that begging makes people lazy and bad survivors. They are like
parasites. Criminals take advantage of their existence. Car drivers are
strong-armed in crossroads, motorbike are seized, trucks are hijacked, etc.
A man in a rural area takes them to the city with his truck in the morning
and picks them up in the afternoon. They have made an agreement to share
what they get. Some children are reported to have been kidnaped not for
ransom. They are forced to be beggars.
Some people, however, say that we must help the beggars. They become the

robber. So it is high time to apply their religious teaching to care for others.
In addition, what they do is to help the government to check crime-rates.
Despite the controversy of their existence, beggars continue to color the life
of urban people.

Q.29) On the wedding day of my brother-in-law, I was really glad because I had a
new friend as well as a sister-in-law. Many people came to congratulate the
new couple. There were many camera flashes, sweet music and flower
arches. Whenever I reminisce that day, the first thing in my mind is my
pink dress.
On that day, I was very proud to wear Korean traditional dress which
comprises of a jacket and a skirt. This dress was pink, and there were
flowers embroidered around the neck, on the sleeves and on the bottom of
the skirt. Every detail attached to the dress made it look glamorous and
elegant. The dress fit me so perfectly that everyone was stunned.
There were long ribbons which were attached to the jacket. Instead of
buttons, these ribbons were used to fasten the jacket. This dress felt smooth
but not soft. When I walked in the dress, there was a crispy sound from the
rubbing of the dress. It was like the sound when I walk on snow. The skirt
was so long that it trailed on the floor. I had to walk very slowly and
carefully. Otherwise, I would stepped on the skirt and fell down. It made
me very nervous.
When the wedding ceremony ended, I was so tired because I had to greet
the relatives and act as a guide. It was no wonder that the uncomfortable
dress added to my fatigue. On my wedding day, I did not realize how
uncomfortable it was for every member of my family to wear such a dress
during my wedding ceremony.
Q.32) There is no need to go onto the street to see citizens of this country have
developed intolerance against those with opposing views. One can just go
onto Twitter and Facebook to see how the rising inability to accept
differences is reflected in one click: unfriend or unfollow.
Many at that time decided to unfriend and unfollow, block their ex-friends,
even break up with their boy or girlfriends for several reasons, such as
posting statuses that endorse unfavorable candidates, the use of harsh tones,
and the boredom of seeing the opinion of the growing number of amateur
”political experts” on social media. Some even attempted to rationalize the
unfriending decision by using mental health as rationale to justify their
action. However, while at some point the decision can be inability to
tolerate the opposing views.
This unfriend and unfollow phenomenon once again is rearing its head,
especially in the Jakarta governor election that has three candidates
competing for the capital’s top position. However, this intolerance should
not be assessed separately from Indonesian culture. Collectivist culture
tends to bold to the principle “the friends of our friends are our friends” or
in this context, “ the supporters of our favorite candidate are our friends.”
Unfollowing itself can also be understood as the embodiment of Indonesia’s
high-context culture. While some Indonesians comfortably state their views
on other’s timelines in times of disagreement, the majority within the high-
context culture tend to keep their feelings to themselves and prefer codes or
indirect language to show disagreement. In this case, they do it secretly by
clicking on the unfollow button. To put this in the context of the Jakarta
election, the border between in-groups and out groups might be set up based
on faith or based on the candidate.theJakartans, or Indonesian citizens at
large, can contemplate and decide : Do we act like this because most of my
in-group members do the same? Is it rational to hate someone because their
views contradict ours? Is the election worth a broken relationship?
If we consider ourselves tolerant, we should also tolerate those with
different viewpoints. As long as they do not ignite hatred or violence, the
willingness to walk along with those who oppose our views will beneficial
in improving our intergroup and cross-cultural communication skills.
